He had a couple of decent plays, but man is he frustrating to watch. They keep saying he just needs more reps, but it sure seems like he’s already peaked.
Ridiculous. Peaked? The kid hasn’t played in 3 years and is green. He’s had his bell rung numerous times and was playing without a toenail. He’s not Tom Brady but give the kid a break. I think he is slowly getting better every game. Tonight was his best performance so far. We got the W. Could Joe have beat this team? Maybe. Welliver? Maybe. Either way a demonstrably better QB isn’t on the roster. I hope they bring in someone to compete for the job next year but that’s next year. Enjoy the win.

We scored 6 times. He doesn’t play D. Our D gave up several 3rd and long first downs. He is not a fabulous passer, but he was pretty good overall. Seriously, our team is good, but someone here thought we could jam runs down Alabama’s throat. Really? C’mon, enjoy the winning. We score 30 and 34 the last two games.
30 and 34 in college against this competition isn't really that impressive. Yes it's light years better than where we used to be. But if we had a passing attack we'd be putting up 50 and we'd probably be 7-1. It just sucks being held back so much by one position.

Comparing to years past, I love our defense. I hope we can keep coach Brock around since he really got these guys to play some good ball.

We are mixing up our blitzing well, and we are putting some good pressure on the QB finally.

it looked like our D was having trouble adjusting and being ready for gst quick temp/no huddle.

Honestly. Enjoy winning a little. We are being held back? We scored 34. The coach decided to punt on 4th and 2 (not the worst decision I’ve ever seen) but that might have stopped us from scoring more. No QB in history can score points when the other team is moving the ball pretty consistently or when his best receiver drops an open pass that forces the team to punt. You would think we are suddenly an offensive machine being messed up by a QB who also missed a bunch of time. Duke is good. If you look at how Wake performed against decent competition, they are not horrible and it was not Evers fault that a ref swallowed a whistle on a play that was a pretty well thrown ball in a clutch situation that would have put us in scoring position. The kid is flawed, but to think some other QB would have us consistently scoring 50 points is, I think, a fantasy.

Evers was awful for much the game but he came through in the 2nd half with those short runs to extend drives and score.

I think we are stuck with him this year but they better not simply “crown” him starting QB next year. He most definitely not earned it IMO. I would love to see Welliver in the mix next year!

Honest question…I didn’t see the game…i am out of the country. Last week you said that UConn has a light’s out defense…I believed that the competition was so poor, that the D was good..but it was more about facing a horrible offense.

After the game last night…do you still think UConn’s defense is light’s out? Was GSU’s offense that good? Looking at the stats…they outgained UConn. Just curious what you think now?

Good game overall. No complaints with the results.

I'd like to add, just when you think the assigned TV crew can't get any worse, last night's crew stepped up to the plate to prove that wrong.
They were really bad with a bunch, but the analyst saying the PI call against Bell in the end zone was offensive pass interference because Bell was the one who initiated contact and he pulled the DB in to him, took the cake. Even on the slow mo replay, he stuck to his guns saying it should have been offensive PI.

One complaint. On the Ga State play with the long pass down the right to Hurst, which set up Ga State's last TD. Needed to call a TO. UConn was flagged on the play for too many men as one of the linemen didn't get off the field on time and it was obvious the defense wasn't ready or set.

There's 2:30 to go in the game and you're up by 14. Use a TO to get everyone set.

.-.
But I would argue they are around top 50 and may end the season at about that if there are no surprises
No. Kudos to all for being 6-3, but all of the 6 wins have been against really bad teams (Ga State hasn’t yet won a single game in its crappy conference) and have been at home, and the last 3 wins were sufficient but not impressive Unless they beat Syracuse, even wins over UAB and UMess won’t and shouldn’t put us in top 50 conversations.

Good win. Georgia St is a good team. Played well. So happy for the boys. Bowling!!!

Bowling Fail GIF

I saw improvement from Evers and see it every week. Some bad throws but not as many as last week. Ran more forcefully, which I'll attribute to coaching and toenail healing. Took some hits, though, wow.

Getting TE production is such a plus.

WRs simply not getting open. Bell was blanketed most of the time but did shake free occasionally and even occasionally caught the ball. Love his talent, involvement and leadership but c'mon man.

The outside tackling on this team is light years ahead of 3 years ago.

The D is so locked in, playing their lanes and it must've felt so great getting that position pick and just dropped another.

Admit I questioned Mora on that last 4th and 2. Kick the FG and game is over. Miss it their ball at the 25. Get the first down and the game is over. Miss it their ball at the 25. Clearly, he thought the run was the better bet and knows his team better than I do.

Now, the road. Let's drive!

The big story to me is the run blocking of the makeshift offensive line, especially the right side led by Lundt. They were incredible. It’s not easy when you have injuries on the OL (ask the football Giants), but the run blocking last night was outstanding. Kudos to all. I don’t always love the play calling by Sammis, but he had the OL very prepared last night.

Those mistakes didn't have much on the result of the game, but it had an impact on the betting line since the spread was UConn -8. Funny how those things worked in the end
So, in the last minute of the game, there were 3 guys standing in the handicapped access seating behind Section 103. It's 4th & 1 yard to go for a 1st down & these guys were screaming to go for the field goal because they had bet big $$ for UConn to cover the point spread. They were apoplectic when the Huskies made the first down to run out the clock. The House always wins...

Their qb was the best visiting qb at the Rent this year. WF qb made plays as he was being sacked. This qb, was throwing to spots accurately with defenders in his face and tight coverage. He was very elusive avoiding sacks and extending plays with his legs. We dropped an easy int and had late hits that extended drives and that allowed more points and yardage. Our D is good, just didn't play as well last night

Am I the only one who think Evers played well tonight just based on the eye test, of course the stat geeks will look at the passing yards, Evers got out of a 3rd and 13 on that drive a rb fumbled, had a dropped 3rd and long completion dropped by Nick Bell of all guys. Evers moved around good and made smart decisions.

I never understood the decision to not go for it on 4th and 1 from the Ga State 37 up 2 scores. Stop being scared to get a yard everyone knew we weren’t stopping GSU sometimes your defense has to be your offense get the damn yard and put it away, your offense was in rhythm too just stay out of the way, please.
This one is on the defense, folks. We had a 10-0 lead after 1 and they allowed GState to drive down the field and get right back into it. We came back and built a 21 point lead, and the d took the rest of the night off, apparently forgetting games are 60 minutes.
The offense was fine. Clearly the game plan was to run the ball down their throats and that’s what we did. There was no need to change tactics just to satisfy a bunch of internet coaches. We scored 34 points. Had a 3 touchdown lead in the 4th quarter. Just play ok defense and that game is a blowout win. I don’t know what happened, but The d was were the issues were. Let a guy go 55 yards on 4th &1. Make that stop and its warm up the bus, boys. Next drive Georgia St is backed up to their own 8. We have them 4th and 10 at their 30, and let them off the hook AGAIN! Make that play and it’s turn out the lights the party’s over. 92 yard td drive. Basically in the 4th quarter our d made that quarterback look like Patrick Mahomes.

So which would you rather have, their guy and a 2-6 record or our guy at 6-3?

.-.
Got sidelined twice by concussive injuries. Since returning, thought he has been playing tentative, skittish, tight, scared probably as a result of head whacks. When he got absolutely nailed while on the ground, thought he’d be out. To his credit, got up, dusted himself off and thought he actually looked better from that point forward.

“Thanks, I needed that”???

He left the D on the field for 35 minutes. He can’t keep the offense moving. His longest pass completion was about 5 yards, when 6 was needed. If GSt’s qb played for us, it would have been a 50-7 win.

I guess I’m in the minority here but I thought this was Evers best game this year. Yes he had only 75 yards passing but had a couple nice passes and a run TD. Bell dropped a really nice pass on 3rd down.

The dilemma is many think you are right. Last night was as good as it gets for Nick.

At times they were shaky to the point of looking inept. GA St did a good job of keeping us off balance, and rushed. This was the qb’s second start I believe. He looked pretty damn good. Maybe his seasonal/career progression is what we have been hoping to see from Evers.??

Georgia State was fighting for their life last night and it showed.

They have lots of experience on that roster, including coaches and they racked up the yards yes.

But take away that long run they had, how successful were they in the red zone?

And keep in mind how poor our passing game was last night - our D was on the field quite a bit.

I don’t know if pointing to the defense after a win like last tonight and using that as an opportunity to say “see I told you so” works.

Better to wait for some road games we have coming up - IMO. We’ll get a better idea then.
