Georgia State had more west downs, more yards and led in time of possession.

He could have helped by getting more first downs and keeping the defense off the field.
How many of those first downs and yards were a result of the defense extending the drive due to penalties? How would have the time of possession changed if we didn't give them 5 freebies?

I get that you have an agenda to push but facts don't match up to that narrative

Well, the #2 qb is always better :^)

Seriously though, I see true freshman qbs at many schools that seem light years ahead of us as passers. It looks like we want someone that is a dual threat, and maybe Evers is our best choice there, but his passing is very inconsistent. His best throw last night was dropped by our best receiver. Hard to blame him for that, but it shows up as an incomplete pass.
And that shows that stats rarely tell the whole story. I see his biggest shortcoming showing up in slow recognition of when to deliver the ball on downfield longer passes, often into double coverage. He actually makes pretty fast and accurate shorter passes. He showed a little more sign of being a dual threat yesterday. Having not been in real game action since high school 3 years ago and then out with concussion this year, I don’t know if we can tell how much of his shortcomings relate to still acclimating to college ball and dealing with his injury or just plain inconsistent. But i really don’t see us being more than maybe one win better than we are (Wake) with a better passing QB.

The best football mind in Connecticut says our QB needs more reps. He sees potential.

What happens if Evers gets healthy, gains confidence and goes off against Syracuse. Follows it up with a solid bowl game.

Then a P4 program pays him serious NIL for his next 2 years.

Will the BY naysayers be p1ssed?

The defense left itself on the field for 35 minutes. Two roughing the passers that gave them a first down on third and long, a dropped interception that kept the drive alive, am offside on 4th down that gave them an extra play, giving up a 60 yard completion even with 12 men on the field.

Not sure how Evers could have helped with any of that.
That is my point. The defense had multiple chances to put these guys away. We had a 21 point lead with 11 minutes left. The D gave up a 55 yard run on 4th and1, dropped a sure interception and got flagged twice on 4th and 10. Make 1 of those and it’s a blowout win. Not one of those mistakes was on Ever.

My guess you didn't sit through the last 12 or so years every week watching some of the games many of us watched. You need to chill out and let those who have suffered enjoy this. Two out of the last three years now UConn is bowl eligible. That is progress from the Pasqualoni, Vitamin D Diaco, to Randy 2.0 disaster. This is much better.
Remember UConn is one of two independents in the country and needs a home. Enjoy the win and stop with putting it down.

OLine, Brown, Stutz had great games and D did as well until the last 10 mins
glad TE was weaved into offense
sucks we don't have a conf. office to complain to about those ridiculous roughing the passer calls. What are the rushers supposed to do? Stop on a dime?
would be nice to get a bowl in the vicinity of Jan. 1....wouldn't be upset if it was Pinstripe or Fenway.

Ridiculous. Peaked? The kid hasn’t played in 3 years and is green. He’s had his bell rung numerous times and was playing without a toenail. He’s not Tom Brady but give the kid a break. I think he is slowly getting better every game. Tonight was his best performance so far. We got the W. Could Joe have beat this team? Maybe. Welliver? Maybe. Either way a demonstrably better QB isn’t on the roster. I hope they bring in someone to compete for the job next year but that’s next year. Enjoy the win.
I agree with this post 100%. Mora has to try to win as many games as he can with our or current roster. No one here disagrees that our program needs better quarterback play. to reach a higher level. I am sure the staff will be looking an upgrade at the position in the offseason. I the meantime, we had a very good win last and Evers played a a decent game. Lets get at least 2 more wins to finish off this season and a bowl game. GO HUSKIES!

The first point you make is spot on and should be emphasized: Mora clearly is a solid, competent and effective fbs head coach who knows much more about this game than any of us. He deserves the benefit of the doubt, and if he needed to earn the benefit of the doubt, he certainly has earned it here. So if he sees Nick Evers as the best option for the program, then I'll accept it and root like heck for the young man. Regarding your point that Evers could portal up to a power program if he has a strong finish, I honestly don't see that as realistically possible, and I think that the staff sees Evers as a multi year project at UConn.

Am I the only one who think Evers played well tonight just based on the eye test, of course the stat geeks will look at the passing yards, Evers got out of a 3rd and 13 on that drive a rb fumbled, had a dropped 3rd and long completion dropped by Nick Bell of all guys. Evers moved around good and made smart decisions.

I never understood the decision to not go for it on 4th and 1 from the Ga State 37 up 2 scores. Stop being scared to get a yard everyone knew we weren’t stopping GSU sometimes your defense has to be your offense get the damn yard and put it away, your offense was in rhythm too just stay out of the way, please.
It's not "Stat geeks". We need a legit passing game. Doesn't need to be 300 yards but passing game needs to be a credible threat.
Also we need a legit passing quarterback in order to keep our WR talent. Bell, Gaithers (sp?) etc deserve someone who can get them the ball

That last roughing the passing call was beyond bad. From my view at the game, the quarterback still had the ball in his hand when the the Husky ( McDonald ? )got to him.

It's all the more reason we should've gone for it on 4th and 1 from the Ga State 37 up 2 scores. Our defense wasn't stopping them, and you put the game in the refs hands and increase the risk of injury by keeping the game alive. Get the 1st there you make Ga State burn their 2 TO and the 2 minute warning.

Don't get me wrong. I follow and support all UConn teams. I want them to win. I just think qb is a weakness for us that is holding us back. It's way too inconsistent.
Send your complaints to Mel Brown for snapping off a 60 yd run on our first play so that we're first and goal on our second play. The friggin nerve of that guy. Does he know the team that has the ball the longest wins??? Doesn't he know this is UConn Football? Randy Edsall logic tells us that scoring too fast is inconsiderate to our defense.

Yeah, not getting either of those. They both have conference tie-ins.

Bowls with no tie-ins: Boca Raton, Camelia, Frisco, Cure, Myrtle Beach

Bowls with only one tie-in: 1st Responder, Birmingham, Armed Forces, 68 Ventures, Gasparilla

So barring a conference not being able to fill all its tie-in obligations, we're going to one of the 10 above.

How can either of you think the possibility exists that Mora has a better football mind than ZooCougar, Chin Diesel, Storrs Roars or any of the other detractors?

Although he hasn't been talked about much on the boneyard, Louis Hansen is having a pretty productive year for us this year. We haven't had a tight end on the roster in recent years that could both block and go downfield and catch a pass.

You can add going 31 yards for a score on the first play after the int. Probably should have thrown 3 times for 8 and kicked a field goal..

He left the D on the field for 35 minutes. He can’t keep the offense moving. His longest pass completion was about 5 yards, when 6 was needed. If GSt’s qb played for us, it would have been a 50-7 win.
Did you watch the game? We punted 3x and an rb fumbled. Outside of a Bell drop, I don't believe we had another 3 and out.
The D prolonged at least 3 drives with penalties and dropped ints.

In the red zone, if they didn’t switch to the wildcat and kept Gibson in, they probably win the game.
You are really stretching now. If Jordan Wright doesn't drop that easy pick, we win by 14! Before tonight, how many Georgia State games have you watched? Do you know their red zone tendencies and how what they see in our Red Zone D?

TJ Sheffield-my god get this guy the ball in space and watch the fireworks. Why are we not doing this?

Ezeriah Anderson-Big TE type, supposed to be a Joly replacement. Been impressive when Fagnano finds him.

Shamar Porter-Kentucky transfer. Already made some plays. But he’s been underutilized.

All of these are weapons that are languishing because the QB we play is so limited.
This post made me sad, for those kids and for the Huskies. What do you tell these kids at the end of the season? Too early for that, but my mind went there.

This place is insufferable.

We are #43 in scoring. That's higher than undefeated Iowa State and numerous other P4 teams, and yet the fans here say that averaging 32 points per game "isn't good enough" in the college game.

We ran the ball really well last night, so he only had 16 attempts. We should all be good with the fact that he was efficient in those attempts and we moved the ball effectively. But there are way too many people on this board that want to kill the kid even when he does his job. Enjoy the win and look forward to next week...

That roughing call on Yates is still bugging me... The QB still had the ball off when he initiated contact. He completed his throwing motion as Yates finished his tackle but Yates had no way of knowing the ball was gone. I understand the flag was for driving him to the turf but do you think they call that if the QB had never thrown the ball? I don't.
Impossible for a human being Yates size moving that fast to stop on a dime. Did he attempt to hurt the QB? No. Good football play. It's a tough sport. People gonna hit you.
