I guess I’m in the minority here but I thought this was Evers best game this year. Yes he had only 75 yards passing but had a couple nice passes and a run TD. Bell dropped a really nice pass on 3rd down.
All things are relative, except the production numbers. 75 yards passing says it all. There were guys open all day that he didn’t see. Starting to remind me of 2021 with no pass game . I pray I’m wrong.

100%. We have an NFL caliber receiver and at least 2 other quality catchers we can’t get the ball to because our QB is flat out terrible. Yet, he continues to start. Mind boggling at this point.

Skyler Bell
Josiah Gaithings
TJ Sheffield-my god get this guy the ball in space and watch the fireworks. Why are we not doing this?

Ezeriah Anderson-Big TE type, supposed to be a Joly replacement. Been impressive when Fagnano finds him.

Shamar Porter-Kentucky transfer. Already made some plays. But he’s been underutilized.

All of these are weapons that are languishing because the QB we play is so limited.

Their qb was the best visiting qb at the Rent this year. WF qb made plays as he was being sacked. This qb, was throwing to spots accurately with defenders in his face and tight coverage. He was very elusive avoiding sacks and extending plays with his legs. We dropped an easy int and had late hits that extended drives and that allowed more points and yardage. Our D is good, just didn't play as well last night
If we had their QB we would be a top 50 program, maybe even top 40.

That roughing call on Yates is still bugging me... The QB still had the ball off when he initiated contact. He completed his throwing motion as Yates finished his tackle but Yates had no way of knowing the ball was gone. I understand the flag was for driving him to the turf but do you think they call that if the QB had never thrown the ball? I don't.
I agree. I don’t know how a (large) human stops forward momentum in a milli second

Sort of speaking of which, since the “slide” has become a thing, i wonder if there are stats on how often a QB gets injured on a slide versus being plain tackled on a run. Besides, in the NFL a play is dead when the QB slides but - and I could be wrong - I don’t think the same is true if they dive forward and nobody touches them. They can get up and keep going. College ball the play is dead as soon as the runner’s knee is down even if they do a back flip.

They beat Vandy who beat Bama. They are not a bad team at all and have some talent. It was a solid win and now UConn is bowl eligible

They only have one FBS win.

They are the very definition of a bad team.

So some don't know Evers dropped a weight on his toe and with the head injury earlier in the year, this was the healthiest he has been. UConn didn't need 300 yards of passing because it has 274 in rushing. My gripe with Evers is being consistent which he is not yet

Make more excuses.

If he’s so banged up, then he shouldn’t be playing.

GOOD morning and it is a GOOD morning for the "old guy"! UConn bowl eligible with a chance to go bowling. I followed the game on ESPN and the 4th quarter scared me to death...Penalties on crucial downs when they could have gotten the ball back and put the game away easily. That aside, if they can go 8 and 4 it will be a great season for me and others I believe. The QB situation is not great, but I leave it to Mora to put in the best we have in his mind. Again, I enjoy the posts with your opinions, be the positive or negative. I do believe football has improved under Mora, and while there are areas that need upgrades, I believe he is doing the best he can with $$$$$$$ being a factor for NIL and coaching staff salaries. Go Huskies, and hoping all on the Boneyard are well. "old guy"!

Georgia State was fighting for their life last night and it showed.

They have lots of experience on that roster, including coaches and they racked up the yards yes.

But take away that long run they had, how successful were they in the red zone?

And keep in mind how poor our passing game was last night - our D was on the field quite a bit.

I don’t know if pointing to the defense after a win like last tonight and using that as an opportunity to say “see I told you so” works.

Better to wait for some road games we have coming up - IMO. We’ll get a better idea then.

In the red zone, if they didn’t switch to the wildcat and kept Gibson in, they probably win the game.

Got to see the game live, finally. We were sitting directly behind parents wearing #93 Barton, Grad transfer from Furman and Alpharetta, GA. They were fun to be around. They were thrilled with the interception of Ga State QB Gibson, also from Alpharetta, GA. The father high-fived my son!

I’m p

i agree with you on many things, but not this one. He is not capable all by himself of allowing the opposition 35 minutes of possession. The D sort of has a role in that. We scored 14 4th Q points. The decent GState QB threw a key first half int. Evers threw none. .who cares if his passes are all for short gains. We definitely moved the ball.

I guess some here were plain spoiled by all the great QB play under Pasqualoni, Diaco and RE2. Every freaking play by this kid is analyzed to death every great QB who every played made a load of crappy plays. No , Evers right now is not fabulous, but he is not nearly as bad as some here think. As i said, might we have a better O with better passing, of course. But we are winning.

We crushed Buffalo with Fagnano and rarely passed the ball . As i I sat at the Rent during that game as it unfolded I wanted us to never pass. And our smart coaches got my telepathy we put up 50. I swear, when a blocker whiffs and allows a sack or a run gets stuffed for a loss, the blocker isn’t trashed the way Evers is. Winning is fun and i like it even if nobody else does.
Don't get me wrong. I follow and support all UConn teams. I want them to win. I just think qb is a weakness for us that is holding us back. It's way too inconsistent.

Missed last night’s game because I was crying through Le Mis with my 13 year old.

It appears there was no progression in the passing game. What explains that 50% of Evers’ completions went to Hansen?

See y’all in Montgomery or Boca Raton or Frisco or wherever we land!

I have been critical of Evers. Last night he managed the game plan that was given to him. We ran the ball down their throats. When he was asked to pass he was generally efficient. There were drops that would have extended drives, that’s on the receivers.

Evers snaps the ball. Runs. Stares at Hanson and then dumps a little pass to him. Repeat.

Baby steps I guess.

The thing is, the better passing QB for Ga Sate put up less points than our erratic QB. Ga State has a few good receivers and not too bad runners and pretty much moved the ball against our normally solid D and we still outscored them. Evers could not have been bad. Obviously our strength is running. And a better passer maybe prevents a team like Wake from being successful with a run prevent scheme. But I get the feeling a lot of our fans are so focussed on Evers’s shortcomings that winning isn’t much fun. So maybe we beat Wake and get to go to the Tossed Salad Bowl as opposed to the Fried Onion irrelevant bowl.

I think that so long as we are an independent, building a really strong team that can get us to one of the better bowls is going to be tough. A lot of depending on transfers in of players who had minor or no roles on power conference teams and hoping we can keep impact younger players from transferring.

The other thing is it seems that almost every year a bunch of fans see the QB who never plays as being a step up. Clearly inly because the guys playing haven’t been winning. This year it’s Wellever. Maybe he would be better, maybe not, but when we are winning. a coach would be nuts i think to make a change. And by the way Wellever got into the end of which game I don’t recall and threw one pretty ugly looking pass. Small sample size.

What happened. I thought Evers did great until he got hurt. When he came back, seems completely different.

I like winning a lot. But Evers badly missed a downfield throw on our second drive in plus territory. Wide open 20 yards down the field and it wasn't close. Make that and were probably go up 14-0. It looked like the coaches are not comfortable having him throw between the numbers to the middle of the field. Almost everything was toward the boundaries. Clearly the coaches are protecting him.

Mora says he needs reps. He is getting reps. It needs to start paying off.

Last 2 games, I think the wind was a big factor. Although last night, it seemed to be dieing in the 4th quarter.

He left the D on the field for 35 minutes. He can’t keep the offense moving. His longest pass completion was about 5 yards, when 6 was needed. If GSt’s qb played for us, it would have been a 50-7 win.
The defense left itself on the field for 35 minutes. Two roughing the passers that gave them a first down on third and long, a dropped interception that kept the drive alive, am offside on 4th down that gave them an extra play, giving up a 60 yard completion even with 12 men on the field.

Not sure how Evers could have helped with any of that.

He also made some awful throws and can’t see downfield.

75 yards passing is not “efficient”.

Georgia State had more west downs, more yards and led in time of possession.

He could have helped by getting more first downs and keeping the defense off the field.

How about Freeman. He has been a rock. One of his early fg misses was from close range. I think he has only missed 3 others - 2 of those in the first 3 he missed - and all i think were pretty long attempts. He routinely kicks off into the end zone

The punting has been very erratic and even kicks that turn out ok tend to be very short hang time line drives that are returnable.

Well, the #2 qb is always better :^)

Seriously though, I see true freshman qbs at many schools that seem light years ahead of us as passers. It looks like we want someone that is a dual threat, and maybe Evers is our best choice there, but his passing is very inconsistent. His best throw last night was dropped by our best receiver. Hard to blame him for that, but it shows up as an incomplete pass.
