The same with the talk of Dorka. I love her. Love her!

But she can't be a miserable f/t shooter. If she is- then she can't be a weapon. She can be okay but not a weapon. She was miserable f/t shooter at Ohio State. This isn't "Ohio State." UCONN is out for being among top teams - not just "to be close." Every possession counts- including every f/t.

Just hard to figure out. She drills a 3, hits a 17 footer, but her only f/t clanks - and I means clanks off the back of the rim. No big deal this early and ofc only 1 f/t but definitely need to keep an eye on.

And it appears Liv and CWill still struggle to shoot. Can't believe I heard Meg include Liv as a good shooter. And to further that say "she is going to take a lot of 15 footers this year." I screamed "No!! Please no!!!"
I agree. Liv has such poor mechanics in shooting. I am sure Geno does not want her taking alot of 15 footers.

They’ll have to send her to the line because the won’t be able to stop her in close.
You saw her inside work ( granted, against shorties), but the footwork and spin moves are undeniable. And with both hands.
There is NO WAY she doesn’t get major minutes.

I don't think the very good teams are going to let her get that close. That's the problem is my guess. And they'll keep her especially farther away from using the backboard.

Good obs as usual OD. I want to add one more obs (kudos) on the game. One that no one has touched on. The production quality of the broadcast, in light of the complete and utter failure of their last effort, that being first night. A flawless broadcast today. Not once did I experience a freeze frame.

The reason for my appreciation for the quality of the broadcast is because I’m a moving target. I’m on a cruise ship off the coast of Mexico (out of Long Beach) headed south to Puerto Vallarta doing about 21 kts. Lots of opportunities for freeze frame or loss of signal.

I was extremely surprised and pleased with the quality of the picture, as well as the overall play of our team. I enjoyed reading all of the comments shared here. A tip o’ the turban and two thumbs up to UConn’s audio visual department.
Hope you enjoy the trip!!

From what I saw today. Paige and Azzi did not have to score. When the big games come around they will take over. The Arkansas on Sunday we will see a different team. We are a team this season with alot of scorers and we are 9 deep so we may not have to depend on Paige to score alot of points. We will need to to score when we need her to and we will most importantly need her to do what she did today and that is get everybody involved because we have alot of players who need to be involved.

Not sure why you would use Kiah Stokes as an example. While she was a tremendous defensive center, her offense was basically nonexistent. ONO is so much better offensively.

The point was reliability - Kiah Stokes was exceptional at the things she did - defensive positioning, rebounding, finishing - and knew not to go outside her lane. With ONO, she tries to do so many things, and many of them are inefficient or inneffective. She might have a spinning drop step one time down, then commit an offensive foul, then travel, then a foul 50 feet from the hoop.

Its the consistency and reliability that she struggles in, not one skill or another.

I had no issue with the technical quality of the broadcast, but I found the replays repeatedly overrunning the live action quite annoying. Enjoy your cruise and buffer the buffet!

Amari. I can see now why Geno says what he says about her. She is a natural basketball player. Graceful, good feet, smart and team oriented. Sure she needs a year here but you can't coach what she has.
Good to know!

I think Geno has already expressed that he definitely DOES want Liv to take 15-foot shots, assuming that she can make a decent percentage (35-40%). I think he believes that is a reasonable expectation. The same thing applies to Aaliyah.

Unless the defense believes that they have to guard Liv and Aaliyah at that distance from the basket, they will guard the passing lanes and the offense will stall. Geno definitely recognizes that problem.

Great to see the team
Live. IMHO the team had 3 shortcomings last
Year
Depth -obviously not a problem this year

No consistent 3 point shooter other than PB
will make the open 3

Lack of a scorer in the post who can also shoot the 3. Dorka has the potential to be that player

Team has a good chance to be significantly better than last year

Looking forward to the season

found on these pages earlier today,
'the days of dorka have officially begun. noice.'
found on these pages last week,
'dorka will be considered the number one transfer in the nation at season's end.'
found on day one of her transfer announcement........
u get the picture. just came here to witness broader enlightenment by the unknowing.
now, adding her, azzy, and caroline this season? fuhghettabootit.
i always wanted to watch a team of mine being unguardable. feels like this is the year.

there's a play at around 6:00 of the 2q (immediate mental note) which tells u everything aboot dorka, and what she brings 24/7. at first look, it's just her following up a miss with a putback. the story is in what happened immediately previous to that. nose for the ball, and the play unfolding in front of her. you can't teach 'instinct.' either you got it or u don't.

Yes -- "let her."

Executing a game plan doesn't mean layup drills or bust. Anyway look at the undefeated teams in UCONN History. There is always at least one game where a team slows them down to under 70 though I'm not entirely sure of the 95 team. But I think E8 game it was under 70. These are college kids - not pros. Every game will not be run smoothly execution-wise. It's not all about UCONN in especially the elite game matchups,.

The 01-02 team 2 times vs Vga Tech 59-50.
The 08-09 Team 1 time vs Rutgers 69-60 - a 7 pt game with 55 seconds left.
The 09-10 team 2 times - 1 vs Notre Dame 59-44 the other 53-47 vs Stanford.
The 13-14 team 1 time vs Baylor 66-55 - a 7 pt game with 1:25 seconds left.

These are examples of games which their offense didn't "execute" very well. OFC any team that lost obviously didn't execute "well enough" on that given day.

The 15-16 team I believe best ever one game was 66-54 vs South Carolina. I don't know if UCONN was really "stopped" that year. . And the game vs MD UCONN did put up 83 but it was a 4 pt game with 1:08 left.

IMO eventually UCONN will run into teams that play good enough defense to hinder the execution. If the above undefeated teams can struggle- then I'm not gonna say this team is greater or equal to 15-16 etc or the other teams and actually not struggle at all. I gotta see it to believe it.

Of course what exactly is the second team? I think we have the luxury to start thinking in terms of rotation, not starters. I could see ONO starting but being pulled within a couple of minutes, the way we play bench seniors on senior night, but re-entering whenever we needed to go with a big (as in length) line-up. Given that, I would be shocked if the starting five in this exhibition started a Final Four game. My starting rotation would be Paige, Dorka, CW, Evina, Azzi, Caroline, AE, Nika, Ono. We will see if the others can improve and/or get healthy to break into that rotation. Constantly putting fresh players on the floor could run opposing teams ragged.
Geno mentioned the possibility of 10 in the post game, with Audrey being added to the mix.

Every team UConn plays will want Liv to take the 15 footer versus Paige, Azzi, etc. While Geno certainly would want her to make more open shots, we likely will now have a 2 big line up with a low post that can flash in for a more high percentage shot. More options than when we had a 4 guard line up.

I agree totally--they showed replays while live action was going on. Very poorly done.
Yes, the replays were badly done and infuriating at times. If that happened in a regular game there would be a major revolt. I was just so happy to see them play. BTW, I love our newcomers, everyone one of them. Really good players, but even better young women.

Watching Liv warm up and I am repeating myself from another post. She stood outside the 3 pt line and took 2-3 shots from one spot then moved over a few feet and took another 2-3 shots from that spot. She nailed almost every shot. When she missed in the game she had no arch on the ball like she did warming up. When she can shoot in the game like she did in warm ups we will have a great high low game. Be patient its gonna come around.

I think the question of UConn’s “best lineup” is still up in the air. From an offensive standpoint I really like Paige, Evina, Azzi, Christyn & any Big on the court at the same time. From a defensive standpoint, I would sit Azzi and replace her with another Big. Depending on the opponent, I think we’ll see both.
