Florida post game thread

Interesting to look at game’s box score. Yes, UConn shot worse from 3 (8/29 vs 9/19), and overall they had more shot attempts (23/64 vs 24/50). UConn fouled Florida shooters more and Florida had 12 more free throw attempts (they were 22/34 vs UConn’s 19/22). Foul totals weren’t too different (UC had 21, FL had 17), and rebounding was fairly even (FL did have 40 to UConn’s 35 which includes those 2 missed 1-and-1 tries at the end). UConn only had 6 turnovers all game (FL had 12).

Stats don’t show blown chances like those missed layups etc. But, even though UConn’s big 3 shot poorly, the defense was as big or even a bigger problem today.

For some reason it auto typed i saw it instead of i didn't see it. I couldn't find it. But a good friend messaged me. Now I know. I'd tell you but It's against by rules
It's against the rules to share information from an unrelated website? Whatever "it" is already leaked on Twitter

Na D wasn’t issue today overall imho, nor was it effort, just missing shots and a couple too many make or break plays went the other way against a really good team

.-.
Three observations.
1. We had the better team the entire game. (They had the better clutch star at the end).
2. Every single other team that watched that game said to themselves, "Thank God we don't have to face UConn in the tournament."
3. This is a win if we had characteristic shooting on the open threes we kept generating on offense. Just average would have won it.

Thanks Alex, Samson, and Hassan. As they said in the old west, you died with your boots on.
Keep the nucleus, add the McD freshmen, a couple key portal adds and we are right there again next year.

Thank you team for a great game and many good memories from the season. All the best for the next year!

No names till the player makes it official
Not when the season ends. surprised you didn’t know this since you know everything
The season is over
Nice snarky remark

.-.
We all know who is leaving. You know who is leaving. You don’t need to see it in print.

Been done for a long time. Only decision that is really looming is what Alex decides to do.

(Which, quite frankly, was a little bit of the issue this year. Hard to have ten toes in when several are already tip toeing to another school.)

I think the real question is how many but we will find out in due time. Staff knows what needs to be done.

Oh you are saying he doesn’t know everything?
Not only a snark but you are acting like a kid
The season is over...............................................................
He said nothing that can't be read
Parents say things Coaches say stupid things when leaving a building - crap happens

I had to do a 20 minute meditation and then 15 minute stress relief yoga to get over the pit in my stomach feeling after this loss. Talking to this crew helps. Even if we're already arguing 3 hrs after the game
I'm just glad I didn't drive 6 hours up to Raleigh from Atlanta on little sleep and pay crazy price to see them lose. I keep those special trips for the final four as they normally win that. I have to been a few other non-final four games like '90s dream team in Hartford but also went went when Rod Sellers slammed Laetner's head into he floor in Detroit and then St. John's lost the next game to Duke too. Yuck. I went with college friends. I also went to Alabama to see El Amin lose on one ankle to a bad Tennessee team. I will stick with seeing Final four games were they have been 10-1 and seen 5 Trophy ceremonies in person.

I really don’t get the Liam Hate
He had 22 points plus three assists.
So he was responsible for 41% of our points . Yet is being badmouthed by alleged fans .
Karaban and Ball also sucked from the outside , the trio was a combined 6 for 27
about 22% .
He is a Freshman who because of our guard woes had the ball in his hands as much as Diarra .
At least on Liam shots you could say he ended up with the ball in his hands with little time on the clock and had to throw up Some prayers .
If you bet UConn
Then Liam singlehanded won you the money .He managed it to get it back to a one possession game when it was headed for a 10 point loss.
Didn’t anyone remember how bad we were when he was out , Four of our six losses some against crap teams were without him
Even the St John’s game at home was his first game in 6 weeks. Without his injury we’re not playing a tournament favorite 1 seed in the second round
I can’t remember a freshman that integral to our success We put a lot on that kids back and he doesn’t deserve the hostility.

that was an extremely winnable game. don’t understand all these moral victory comments. this is UConn, not a mid-major that is happy to be there.
Yes! Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing! This isn’t 6th grade intramural for Pete’s sake. This was a game we led for about 37 minutes and lost because of a few dumb plays. Was it a tough loss? Of course. But we had opportunity after opportunity to get a bigger lead and we missed shots, turned the ball over, let rebounds go off our hands. We played good enough to lose.

I hate this middle school crap. We’re proud of our team we are we are Whether we’ve orcwhether we lose. We went there to win. We didn’t. It sucks.

They know what they gotta do.

Personally, outside of Alex, Solo and Tarris, I don’t really care who leaves. (I assume Liam is NBA-bound, but would love to see him back.) It’s nothing we cannot get in spades in the portal.

Just rewatched the post game presser and I have to give Dan Hurley credit. He gave Florida credit where it was due, but he knows where we came up short and he took the blame. He has learned and I sure he will do a great job in the off season. Props to Dan for being a great human.

That was a roller coaster of emotions for me. I had so much respect for Florida coming in. I thought we would lose by 20.

But I really wanted that win when I saw we could play with those guys. Cant believe we even had a chance the way we shot from down town. The guys played so hard.

Was kind of disappointed with Mcneelys performance. Not passing to Johnson and then turning it over was tough. Not sure why he gets more sets than ball, who also didn’t shoot well today.

At the end of the day, they had Clayton and we didn’t. That was the difference

They were right there to stretch the lead and hopefully put it out of reach, but couldn't.

Seemed to be countless times they had the ball with chances to stretch the lead and let UF close the gap keeping them in striking range.

They played the best D we've seen all season long and made some outstanding plays, but simply missed so many open and makeable looks. Even with that, they gave up some critical rebounds on the defensive end, especially off of missed FTs, that were costly late.

That was a winnable game. Great effort. Proud of our team, but disappointed in the outcome.
In an alternate timeline where we win the natty Ball launches and swishes a 3 instead of a turnover. Owell

I just wanna say...Tarris has been great. I'm really excited to see his leap next year. Imagine the chemistry he and Solo can get this summer.

Something that I think is worth noting. In the last 3-4 minutes, Florida ran their screen/roll from a 45 angle instead of from the top of the key. So when we came out to crazy hedge, they slipped for, I think, two dunks and a couple of drawn fouls. Because of that spot on the floor, we couldn’t rotate in time. When we tried to not be as aggressive, Clayton was able to sidestep and get shots off. Good wrinkle by Golden.
