Because why would donors who give the schools thousands for the seats give them up?I just don’t understand why
Because giving current students a way better fan experience will lead to more donors down the road. Current donors still would have a full other half of the court.Because why would donors who give the schools thousands for the seats give them up?
Does anyone have a good first night at this point? I feel like this whole concept is sorta played out.
I’m not disagreeing with you but it will never happen. Way to much money involved and also would turn away long time donors.Because giving current students a way better fan experience will lead to more donors down the road. Current donors still would have a full other half of the court.
IMO they gotta stop combining the two events. The novelty of MBB/WBB in one night has kinda worn off.
All you need is the following:
- Player intros.
- Three point contest.
- Dunk contest.
- Scrimmage between the current team and non-NBA former players.
Influential families that build practice facilities usually sit in those spots. Also what was with some center court sections being roped off and only having like 12 people sitting in them?
going of that, it’s been talked about before and shot down but uconn needs to put the students first and switch the student section to center court like Duke and UNC do.
Convince me otherwise.
Pretty sure it was replaced last year or the year prior with some Bose system.they need to update their sound system and place will be bumping
I hear you, it also just could be something for the students (including recruits) to enjoy and have fun participating. They go to classes and eat with the players, and know them simply as peers. The older farts (grads and up) are allowed in as spectators, and we have the benefit of past comparisons. Why? Damn near every school does it. Good recruiting tactic too.
UCONN just needs to do it better, but what's new?
Kansas. Javonte Brown Ferguson went to that one too.
Anyone else having problems with it?
I’m in my early 20s. It’s not good for any age group. It’s horribly run and embarrassing.Dear old people on their laptops....
First Night isn’t for you
You should change your handle. You aren't a Gampel crazy. You missed Open Practice and First Night. And spent last night on your computer watching a weak stream complaining about the production of the event. So not a gampelcrazie.I’m in my early 20s. It’s not good for any age group. This is what I meant. I have no problem with the actual event. But it’s run so bad it isn’t worth having. The idea is fine. UConn's execution is.....typical.
I ended up at the open practice. You should change your handle. You aren't a Gampel crazy. You missed Open Practice and First Night. And spent last night on your computer watching a weak stream complaining about the production of the event. So not a gampelcrazie.
The players had fun and the crowd seemed to, as well.
Looks okay.
I’m in my 20s and the event sucks now.Dear old people on their laptops....

I don't necessarily disagree but the event is designed to be experienced in person - for young people who are surrounded by their friends. If you're watching the stream, what feels like an awkward pause in the event might be completely imperceptible to someone actually in Gampel. It's really apples to oranges. Not saying it couldn't be improved, or that the way they executed it was perfect or anything, just that watching it on a computer tells you almost nothing about how the people the event was designed for actually experienced it.I didnt think if was too bad but announcer did suck and the dunk portion was def unorganized and awkward bc bouknight was the only one really trying. Springs and sid did one each and Adam's tried twice maybe. Most of the time they all just stood around awkwardly. If it was organized better it would have been okay.
No, it won't. Stopped being a cool thing a couple decades ago when it was no longer midnight madness. The is the first first night I haven’t gone to since maybe 2011. It’s not a good event anymore.
Maybe It will be fun when they are good again.
