It wasn't great, but I really miss the old Captain's Galley that were in Milford and West Haven. They used to give big piles of clam strips. The strips at Fred's Shanty were good, then you could top off with ice cream from Michael's Dairy a few blocks down.

Also heard Flander's Fish Market in East Lyme is getting more notice. A friend said $8 fish & chips on Tuesdays.
 
My knowledge of food in New England is a bit dated and reliant on infrequent visits back east. But my go-to for whole bellied clams has always been the Clam Box in Ipswich MA and Harry's in Colchester (great burgers too!)

Happy to hear that place hasn't collapsed into the Saugatuck yet. Used to work within walking distance and spent many a night unsure if it was me or the floor to the men's room that was my problem. Although it seems ridiculous they haven't fixed that in the 27 years since I was last there.

Stowes was mentioned above in west haven, Another place i like alot is copps island which is a little stand/trailer in stratford

I havn’t been down there in about 4-5 years, didn’t realize it was closed. Place checked a lot of boxes as far as seafood and setting go.
 
Not big on lobster, so my go-to is oysters on the half shell. Spike the oysters with a dash of Hartford's own Wild Moon Liqueurs Cucumber and you'll thank me.

One of my favorite places to start my day on Martha's Vineyard. Ride my bike from the Oaks Bluff ferry and stop for food and a few beers before riding down to South Beach. Great way to spend the day on MVI. I often take the ferry from New Bedford to avoid some driving and potential traffic.

I have also had very nice lobster in the rough out of the Menemsha Fish Market on MVI while enjoying the sunset or eating off a spool table.

Nantucket Lobster Trap on Washington is another good place to eat lobster in the rough in Nantucket. Short walk from the ferry. There used to be a place that offered buck-a-huck oysters on Nantucket off Broad Street. Not sure if they still offer that great deal. Some places on Nantucket can charge as much as $4 an oyster.

Speaking of fish tacos, I am fortunate to live close to The Sandbar in Cocoa Beach. I eat their fish tacos often for half price on Tuesday nights. Check it out if you are ever in Central Florida.

It just changed over last summer. Setting is still the same and I assume the seafood is more or the less the same, but I haven’t been yet as a fords loyalist.

PS Westfair Fish & Chips at the back of the Westfair Shopping Center just west of the Fairfield line (across from Stop & Shop) fries up seafood on par with any of the Shoreline seafood shacks.

During my protracted downsizing, packing, and moving adventure, I stayed in Bridgeport, Black Rock, Westport. As it became less and less workable for me to venture even as far east as New Haven, these two continued to do an admirable job.
 
Throw in another Stowes was planning on going this weekend to kick off tge unofficial start of summer

Is Arnold’s still open on the Cape have not been there for about 10 years but it was always good when we spent our Memorial Day weekends on Cape Cod in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

Yes it was commercialized because of location but the whole belly clams were always good.

Agree on all, just wish they took credit cards. It's hard to walk out of there without the tab being over C-note and we usually have to make sure we have enough cash on hand.

Yes. It’s still open. And they probably haven’t changed the oil in the fryers since the last time you were there. LOL

Yep.

We go there about twice a year and I always get the tall beer where they give you the glass - my inlaws cannot bring themselves to throw anything away, (they have wonton soup containers from the 70s), so while they cannot stand that they have an entire cabinet above their fridge that has nothing but Arnold’s glasses, they’re powerless to do anything about it.

How many frisbees are there laying around? LOL Every cottage I've ever set foot in has at least one Arnold's frisbee.

FAR from a shack, but fair haven oyster company on the quinnipiac river in new haven is probably my favorite restaurant in the city.
