Favorite Songs From Artists No Longer Alive

The band took a LONG hiatus after Chester died, but recently came back with a new (female) vocalist. Bit of a mixed reaction to that from what I've gathered.

Pretty much every grunge band other than Pearl Jam lost their lead singer. I was just never much of a fan of Nirvana, hype train was on overdrive with those guys. Much preferred Alice In Chains and Soundgarden.

As an aside, 80s metal bands have been surprisingly resilient by comparison. Lost a few to OD or car crashes or something, but many are still around.

Anyone remember Dan Hicks? This song in one of my favs from them due to a chick i was seeing once calling me 'moody richard'

Gord Downie died in 2017 from glioblastoma at age 53.

Courage - The Tragically Hip

Paul Pena died in 2005 from complications of diabetes and pancreatitis at age 55.

Jet Airliner (the original before Steve Miller covered it)

Lou Reed died in 2013 from Liver disease, hepatitis, diabetes, at age 71.

Rock N Roll

Richard Farina died in his 20’s in a motorcycle accident on the way home from a party for the publication of his book. Mimi died of cancer in her 50’s. I really REALLY wish they’d been able to record a few more albums —the two (plus a little bit) are among my favorite ever, and motivated me to take up playing and making dulcimers.

Taylor Hawkins was with the Foo Fighters for many years until he passed in 2022.
Everlong has some pretty ambitious drumming and Taylor gets some nice camera time in this live capture.
