ESPN on Precious Achiuwa

The idea that a message board fan who is almost undoubtedly getting his information from a booster or a low level staffer knows more than the head coach is something else. I do think he goes to UNC.

So you agree with him but you disparage him... confused.

I am not presenting my guess as a fact. Zionn's "next" has an perfect track record. But this seems more like a well educated guess. I find the idea that he knows better than Hurley pretty silly. Maybe Hurley is just a fan of Precious and is watching him for fun.

Hurley could be fighting a losing battle who knows but Zionn's track record speaks for itself.

Not happening.....

So if I'm understanding this correctly:

Hurley and his staff are wasting their nights in a high school gym still recruiting him.
Precious is not telling them he has no interest in UConn.
Precious is telling others he has no interest in UConn
Those others or extensions of those others are where Zionn is getting his information.

Am I missing something?

I seriously doubt it's an educated guess, I would assume somebody told him he isn't coming here.

But neglected to tell the guy who is paid millions to have this information. Not saying he’s wrong but he should share that sh it with Dan.

Zionn is wrong or Hurley is a dumb Spartacus. I'll hope for the former.

Just named as a McD's AA
Great for him but that may make the recruitment road a bit bumpier but in reality he was probably already considered to be that designation.

I agree it's strange.

Are head coaches infallible evaluators of their own standing with recruits? The last two years here beg to differ.

It's not unheard of for recruits/their camps to be less than forthright with coaches either.

I think and hope the last 2 years were an anomaly. It was actually a joke by the end with how misinformed the staff was. I would have expected Kimani to be as plugged into PA's recruitment as anyone considering he was the director of his AAU program for 7 years.

I would hope so too. Hurley also seems like the guy who would hear that a recruit had moved on and just keep grinding (cringe).

Hurley’s been involved in recruiting on the college side for 12 plus years. He knows the deal. The Hoophall Classic games had good players all over the place, and it’s never a bad idea to keep up relationships with Montverde and New Heights people.

That’s true

Especially with all three of the McD East coaches from Kansas

Kansas seems to be really pursing Matthew Hurt. They also have Marcus Garrett and Quinton Grimes returning more then likely. I think UNC is the real threat. Unless Precious is fine with fighting for PT.

Now that Zionn has confirmed, any hopes I have left for Precious are gone. But man, it will pain me to see him go to Kansas, UNC, or St. John’s. Bill Self is a proven cheater. Roy Williams let academic fraud slip for the longest time and went unpunished. St. John’s wouldn’t help Sid get a waiver to play last year and then they get one for Mustapha Heron this year.

Hopefully! I think Carlton as a junior would be better than Wahab as a freshman. So if passing on Wahab means targeting precious, then going after a big man for 2020, sounds good to me!
So you’re ok with one 5 on the roster unless we get a grad transfer or 2. I doubt Wahab is coming here but need another 5 we can develop.

Absolutely agree with you. After Carlton we don't have a 5.

The frontcourt in general has zero depth.

- Polley has reached double digit points in 4 of 19 games.
- Cobb has reached double digits in 3 or 19 games
- Wilson and Yakwe haven't reached double digits.

So basically, either Carlton has a great game, or we may not get more than 10 points from our entire frontcourt. He hasn't been consistent, but I think the real problem is that we don't have anyone other than him that is a threat to have a big scoring night at the 4 or 5.

If Diarra is merely an average player, it will still be a big boost to the frontcourt in its current state IMO. But we need a new big who will be ready to contribute next year. IMO it has to be a transfer, but we'll see what the staff can do.

When can we stop acting like we are a squeaky clean program?

Everyone's dirty, more or less.

We don't talk about Mama much but that may be because we may not ever see much of him. His chronic knee problem may preclude him from significant time on the court if at all. I think he will be held out for the remainder of this year and we will see how he progresses in the off season and into next year
