I've been giving this a lot of thought lately. Here's my two cents:
In many sports, some coaches are system coaches, requiring the appropriate personnel to carry out a scheme. Others fit schemes to what they have, with varying success.
I have little doubt that if we had two "lock down" corners, that Crocker would be able to do a great job. But then again, if we had two lock down corners, ANYONE would do a great job! We're paying the DC to do exactly that; to coordinate! Look at what you have and make it work better.
If Edsall is interfering, then it's in Crocker's best interest to make that known somehow. But at some point, he has to take responsibility for the worst NCAA defense of all time, and I don't want to hear about personnel when it's THIS bad...
