Edsall Dumpster Fire, Worse than P or D, by far.

Edsall is a below .500 coach, this is what you are going to get, a below average coach hires below average assistants who recruit below average players and yields a below average season. When he manages to hire a decent coach, he handcuffs them into looking below average then when they leave they actually are above average.

So much wrong with this statement as well. Might want to take a look at former Edsall assistants. Might also be a little hindered at the salary allotted for assistant pay.

If he keeps Crocker on staff I will be irate, but your statement is just false.

So edsall is over .500 then....no he sucks, and he handcuffed his assistants who turned out better after they left. Nothing false about that. Don't care about salary you either can coach or you can't and they can't.

The bottom line here is that we are trying to run an athletic department that supports three major sports on a G5 budget. Look around the G5, is there any program putting as much money into basketball, both men's and women's, as well has having a competitive FB team. Schools like Kansas and UNC and Duke can do it because they have P5 money pouring in.

UConn has dumped tons of money into basketball because it's what we've always been good at. If that's the route we want to go then it might be time to just commit fully to it and let football go.

We are stuck with RE because we can't afford anyone else. We bought out Diaco, we found a way out of KO's contract, we hired Hurley and are paying him a lot, and Geno is making tons. All the things I listed above should have happened and I'm glad they did. However, it makes it impossible for us to also run a successful FB program, especially in a barren recruiting territory.

I know Dooley had a thread on this but if we are going to put money into football, then it needs to be done right. The past 8 years have been littered with piece meal fixes and bad hires. If this is going to get turned around they need to make one last big push and drop serious money into FB. Problem is, I have no clue where that comes from because they aren't pulling it from bball, and we have no deep pocket donors.....

I just don't see a light at the end of this tunnel. I am a huge football fan of our school and hate the talk of dropping football or dropping down, etc. However, the day of reckoning is quickly approaching where a decision will need to be made.

You can believe what Randy believes- but you cannot say it publicly. Have some tact. Good lord.

Why not? He's not saying they have no talent or won't ever be good, he is saying they are not physically ready yet but they are being forced to play because you have to put eleven on the field. The biggest problem we have is our defensive line is being mauled because they aren't strong enough.

Jay Wright lost to Furman yesterday, does that mean Jay Wright has lost his ability to coach or does that mean Nova might have a player development deficit this year?

We're not dropping football. We're in the AAC. God have mercy on us.

Army almost beat Oklahoma this season. It all comes down to coaching.

Edsall is underwhelming and has always been underwhelming. Bringing him back was inexplicable and at this point I don't see any reason for hope moving forward.

That said, the team P inherited from him was a real football team, full of real football players who, man for man, were capable of competing physically with anyone else in the country. Those things have become increasingly untrue with every season since.

P and Diaco were incompetent. Edsall is probably better than that, but he's definitely not good enough to undo a decade's worth of malpractice. This would be a chore for Bill Parcells.

This might be one of the dumbest things I have seen posted on here, and that is saying a lot. Say what you want about version 2.0.

Why is that an u reasonable thing to say? He failed at Maryland, has crushed UConn into the worst D1 program of all time and he doesn’t seem to comprehend what he is doing is wrong for the players

Remember when UAB completely closed down the program for two years? They're way over .500 in the two years since bringing it back.

I know they have a much better recruiting area but, good lord, its UAB, with UAB facilities, they DEATH PENALTY'd themselves and are flying now.

I was curious so I looked up UAB's two deep. On defense they start 8 seniors, two JR's and one sophomore. On offense they start 9 seniors and 2 sophomores.

I understand this, but it is apples and oranges. The AAC is must better than the C-USA but they did come back from nothing to something.
The point is to look like a fb team. To go from no team to ten wins in two years is a remarkable contrast to our team, that every week looks like it's the first time they ever played. Every week Edsall offers lame excuses.

I plan on being there next week for the seniors if for nothing else. I think we all should be there for them.
It better be a 3:30 game. Otherwise, I won't be there until halftime.

He should have been earlier, then, and he should have been Krajewski
I'm told by my source on the football team that the coaches would love see SK gain 10 pounds of muscle. He is a terrific passer and has good speed but needs to be able to take a hit. He is our future but needs to get stronger and bulk up slightly without sacrificing speed and passing accuracy, which is a delicate thing to accomplish for the coaches. He reminds me a lot of Sandy Osiecki, the great Ansonia QB. Tall, skinny, a gun for an arm.

They have 30 RS Seniors on the roster - mostly JUCO. I think they graduate 35 kids this year. The way Bill Clark put the team together and resuscitated the program is impressive.

Because he took a team that was FCS into a team that consistently wins 7+ games. Its literally impossible to luck into that

If our recruiting territory is so barren, then how is Temple managing to find players who can compete and win in the AAC? They're essentially in the same recruiting territory we're in.

Problem is we played a lot of Edsall’s recruits this year on D and saw nothing from the way they performed that suggests strength and condition will be enough to change the bottomline. To me that is the real alarming issue here. I don’t see any where near enough of randy’s recruits on D showing meaningful upside.
Exactly, blaming P and Diaco’s recruits would have more standing if Randy was recruiting well. Crocker recruited 6-7 defensive backs and you see the results.

Correct. This is what makes me crazy. Temple, left for dead, now infinitely better than us.

From what I am seeing on the field it still comes down to speed or a lack thereof. Edsall keeps moving secondary players to linebacker because they are just too slow to play in the secondary at this level. ( Terry, Hahn, Banks, Swenson.) I'm not sure any of the conversions have worked out very well to date. The kids that were recruited to play linebacker appear to be way too slow to play that position at this level. (Gilmartin, Garson who got move to defensive line,). In hindsight, the move of Beavers to defensive end doesn't look that great now. Eli Thomas got hurt and then later suffered the stroke. Gardner has not develop into the player we all hope he would become. We appear to be trying to play defense with only one linebacker ( Sterling) and he is just average player at best.

That's a question for Bob Diaco. Let's see if he answers.

Hey Bob, why was your recruiting for defense so weak?

It's too early to fully judge Edsall's recruits. Lets not forget that players like Byron Jones, Scott Lutrus, Blidi, Gratz, Kendall Reyes all redshirted before playing, it takes time. Obviously we could make that redshirt list much bigger.

Are you willing to wait 5 years for the team to be competitive?

I was happy to get Randy back, because if the success that he had here before, which is not debatable. I am shocked at how bad the defense is this year without a glimmer of improvement. This recruiting class will be the tipping point for me. If we don’t have guys that can get it done right now, go get guys that can. I question the recruiting ability of the assistants, especially Crocker. The rubber hits the road on national signing day.

We have seven commits. Seven.
