It really sucks going into the off-season of an historically bad year knowing that the next year might even be worse. I am trying to convince myself that even if we go 1-11 next year, which is entirely possible, we will at least be significantly better from a statistical standpoint, with better tackling and speed on defense and closer scores. This year has been far, far worse than I expected and the optimism I felt with RE's return has been badly shaken.

I get it, it’s easier to support a winning team. But it’s even more important to support it when it’s not.

I still believe in HCRE. But he says the guys are slow, small, and lack muscle. So even if they gain experience in two years, they're still going to be miles behind other teams in pure athletic ability. It sounds like we have Division II or Division III athletes.

Aren't there quality recruits out there that would want to start all four years at UConn rather than sit on the bench for three years with a slight possibility of playing senior year at a Top 25 program?

I think we must go with HCRE through 2020, maybe 2021. I have no confidence that we would select a coach better than HCRE if we did replace him. Our track record is abysmal.

Good news? This season ends next week.

Bad news? Has David Benedict sat down and really established a vision for the type of athletic dept. he wants? I have never seen such epic suckage in UConn athletics as I have on Benedict's watch. Across many different programs.

I think Benedict is doing a good job. He got rid of Diaco. He got rid of Ollie. He got us a rock star basketball coach. Edsall is not a superstar. He is a builder. He'll can the DC 5 minutes after the season ends and start working on a replacement. They will get better. Once UCONN is a decent .500 team, Edsall will retire and the position will be more attractive to up and coming head football coaches.

Is it too much to ask to not be worst team the eyes have ever seen. Is asking for some semblance of competency unrealistic?

Nothing explains how bad this defense is. Physical limitations I could understand. But last night an opposing true freshman QB, launched a ball in the air their WR could have fair caught, juggled it, and there was no defender within 10 yards to at least force an incompletion. They had a true freshman walkon wr pee all over them. That was a winless team in conference. Them and Tulsa the next two bottom teams showed we have a ways to go to be on their level. Even the abomination that was Diaco wasn't this bad.

It's too early to fully judge Edsall's recruits. Lets not forget that players like Byron Jones, Scott Lutrus, Blidi, Gratz, Kendall Reyes all redshirted before playing, it takes time. Obviously we could make that redshirt list much bigger.

I'm also on record as asking why on earth we can't be remotely competent on defense with what we've currently got against the likes of Tulsa, ECU, etc. We are giving up record levels of points against horrible teams, seemingly with no for formational adjustments or improvement in techniques.

Did Andy Talley call all of defensive plays and Crocker just wore a headset? Has Edsall totally handcuffed him? All of the above? I don’t get it. Hate to make a change, because we have gone through so much leadership and scheme change. We need to invest in a someone that can coach and as important, RECRUIT.

I've been giving this a lot of thought lately. Here's my two cents:

In many sports, some coaches are system coaches, requiring the appropriate personnel to carry out a scheme. Others fit schemes to what they have, with varying success.

I have little doubt that if we had two "lock down" corners, that Crocker would be able to do a great job. But then again, if we had two lock down corners, ANYONE would do a great job! We're paying the DC to do exactly that; to coordinate! Look at what you have and make it work better.

If Edsall is interfering, then it's in Crocker's best interest to make that known somehow. But at some point, he has to take responsibility for the worst NCAA defense of all time, and I don't want to hear about personnel when it's THIS bad...

They have 30 RS Seniors on the roster - mostly JUCO. I think they graduate 35 kids this year. The way Bill Clark put the team together and resuscitated the program is impressive.

We need to take a page out of that book and recruit JUCO kids hard. None of this character nonsense. Anyone who is in juco for a nonviolent crime should be fair game for admissions. We could use at least 5 juco bodies on D

Seriously, if this fool came knocking on your door to recruit you, would you invite him in the door, let alone listen to him? With all of his regular, weekly blame and garbage that fills social media and the press, what HS coach is going to expose one of his better players to this type of crap?

There are plenty of other opportunities at all levels. Did anyone watch that Army v Colgate game yesterday? Both extremely well coached with aggressive, talented, smart and disciplined players.

If our recruiting territory is so barren, then how is Temple managing to find players who can compete and win in the AAC? They're essentially in the same recruiting territory we're in.

Temple, Pitt, Cuse, BC, Penn St... look at the seasons these schools are having. They aren’t losing to horrible teams by 30-40 points.

This is a team filled entirely of players with small hands. You simply cannot blame the Randy for that. They need time to grow bigger hands.

We are absolutely the worst team in the country. We might be the worst FBS team ever. And yet, if the weather is decent, there will likely be 10K-15K actual living and breathing fans in the stands to watch us lose to Temple 60-something to 20-something. You put this roster (after 8 seasons of losing) in front of every NCAAF fanbase in the country and I doubt many would considerably outdraw UConn.

I always remember Calhoun's comments about UConn fans after he was hired from Northeastern. Always said that taking the UConn job appealed to him because no matter how bad UConn teams were - and there were plenty of bad teams pre-Calhoun - that the arena was still full or close to being full. And while 10K-15K fans in a 40K stadium is not good on a grand scale, it is truly impressive considering just how awful of a product that takes the field week in and week out.

Seriously, I wonder how many fans Alabama or Ohio State or Penn State or USC or Florida or anyone would draw if they were 1-10 and give up 700 yards / 50-60 points a game and lose by at least 4-5 touchdowns every week.

I really hope AD Dave and the UConn BoT and the incoming school President see this and finally make a commitment to properly funding football. There is zero excuse to be dead last in the AAC funding football for a school/brand as big as UConn.

The bottom line is, Randy knows he is in a no-accountability situation. The President is on her way out and the AD doesn't give a hoot. Funding his buyout and paying a replacement's salary are both dicey propositions. Sadly, his job security has nothing to do with the usual things like performance, attitude, or salesmanship ability that normally determine whether a coach remains a coach. He's grinning like a Cheshire cat and laughing all the way to the bank.

Exactly, blaming P and Diaco’s recruits would have more standing if Randy was recruiting well. Crocker recruited 6-7 defensive backs and you see the results.

How do you know if randy has recruited well yet? This is his first full class. Are you judging them based off of their first year?

We don’t need two lockdown corners, we need a solid front 7 with a pass rusher or two. It doesn’t matter if you are an all American cornerback, if the opposing qb has 5 seconds to throw with no pressure, the receiver is getting open.
