The whole sequence is funny

1) ESPN announces new deal with ACC

2) Bloggers claim FSU is strangely silent, direct evidence they are leaving the ACC

3) FSU releases a very pro-ACC statement talking about how good a deal it is and how it will keep everyone competitive

4) Bloggers claim FSU big not use the specific words "committ to" in its statement and therefore are leaving the ACC

5) FSU AD specifically says school is committed to the ACC

6) Bloggers claim this is what schools always say before they leave, direct evidence FSU is leaving the ACC
That is like something out of Monty Python.

what?
so if fsu and clem know that 2 years from now vt and ncst are going to the sec for 16 and that they are stuck in the acc why wouldn't they get out now in advance? don't you think those 2 would move before the league blows up? and prob take miami and gt with them so they have a eastern division in the league? why would fsu and clem just let the sec rip apart the acc a couple years from now and be stuck in the acc when they can move now for more $$ and be ahead of time instead of stuck. if fsu and clem wait, the b12 might add lville and byu or whoever to get to 12 for a ccg. then the acc teams moving won't be able to have a legit east division in the b12.

fsu/clem are feelign the heat right now. as soon as they convince miami and gt to go with those 4 with wvu/lville and 1 other will be the east division of the b12. then the sec will match 16 with vt/ncst and the b10 will take the left over big publics. why would fsu/clem ever let it get to the point where the sec draws blood when they can make the move themselves before hand?

Your whole premise is irrelevant because State politics are going to keep those schools with UVa and UNC respectively.

Besides I doubt the cash is there to make adding Va Tech and NC State (LOL) worth their while.

That is like something out of Monty Python.
Do you perhaps think there was a reason FSU issued a second statement which actually was clear and concise rather than the ambiguous first statement? Or do you think the 1st statement was deliberately vague 2 most people who read it? Yup, they just issued those two statements for no reason at all, just to appease "bloggers".

Before you guys hurt ur selves patting ur selves on the back, this game is still in the early innings, a little early 2 be doing victory laps. Yup, u guys are the kings of the expansion scenarios, so why dont u educate us lesser beings about what the next moves are?

I must of missed all the smart posters and their posts before Cuse and Pitt hit the road......

Nobody's doing victory laps. At least not around here. I admit I don't know what's going to happen, especially far down the road in the future. I'm just saying I won't be surprised if FSU is still in the ACC in September, but that doesn't mean I think it's a 0% chance they leave before then, or after then for that matter.

I just thought Jericho's post was funny.

I don't know why anyone would care what the schools say. They are never going to tell you the truth.

Where are my boys Observer, Jericho and to lesser degree, JungleHusky? Jungle, you aren't the jerk@ff that Jericho is........

Hmmmmm, the chair of the BOT of FSU seems to share the view that some us have seen a mile away. Come on, let's see the self congratulatory posts about how you guys had this so read right! Maybe Observer can put up another article by some lame FSU Internet meathead. This has moved off the Internet and into the Chair of the BOT of FSU, nuff said.

I still am not saying it will happen, but it's all about following the money, always has, always will be.

Well the odds on FSU being in the B12 obviously just went up significantly, so the next question is does the B12 want FSU (and presumably another team)? And we'll find out if the BOT has the political weight to override the president, my guess is they probably will. At some point we'll hear about an FSU exploratory committee's findings, and unless the B12 is uninterested we'll hear something about them evaluating FSU and Clemson (or whoever). I'm still guessing FSU won't get an invite before the fall, but of course it's just a guess.

One or two of UConn, UL and RU should be on the move soon. I don't think the ACC can wait around to lose members because if two leave, two more might leave and before you know it there is a collapse. They also need to take in new members before the NBE goes to contract negotiations.

I think the B12 is drooling for FSU and trust me, the President serves at the BOT''s pleasure.

Evidently the BOT Chair's term is up in June so you have to wonder whether this was: a) him acting as mouth-piece / providing cover for the President; b)unhappy that the President isn't looking into the B12 and is using the last vestiges of power to voice a publicly popular opinion prior to returning to the public sphere. I would go with (a) (why piss of the FSU prez) but who knows...

Not done by any means but some things to consider......the only people who can fire the university president is the BOT......and take a wild guess who puts more money into the school, the history department or the football team??

If the ACC gets poached there will be an absolute feeding frenzy like many of us have speculated might happen for a while now. The Big 12, B!G, and SEC are going to carve them up.

Heartbeat, it would most certainly put things in play, if it happens, the dominoes will fall quickly.

The problem is; I can't work out whether or not this is good for UConn. Do we get invited to a conference that gets gutted? Does the ACC go after other Big East schools without adding us? Does the Big 12 finally pick off L'Ville to go to 16 or some damned thing? Part of me felt good about the fact that C-USA made up some of the Big East defections with new additions, because I didn't feel so dirty. Then I realized that it essentially destroyed the WAC, forcing Boise State to look for a new olympic sports home and possibly ruining their future deal with the Big East. Be careful what you wish for, I guess...

We will have absolutely no idea if it will be good or bad. Good would be one of three or so scenarios - the B1G goes east and includes UConn, the ACC makes a last-second push for ND and brings UConn along before anyone leaves for 16, the B12 takes only 2 and UConn/RU are added to the ACC. After that, things get dicey. If the SEC or B1G poach the ACC after the B12 takes a few, we might be looking at 4 superconferences, which would leave us likely in the ACC but still on the outside looking in. What makes this all especially entertaining is the impact of GoR. Do the conferences feel that GoR are ironclad enough that they need to jump on a school they're interested in who is likely to leave for another conference and sign their rights over? Would the SEC finally say "we don't want B12 in Florida" and pony up an invite to FSU at the last minute? It could get crazy.

its a good thing. it will help the tv contract and move the nbe up to the 5th spot among confs. but it allows us to grab all of the best left to stand and fight. whaler and fishy stop reading right here! watch:

pac has 12
b12 has 10
sec has 14
b10 has 12

each of those are over time getting to 16. thats 16 spots left. asume nd stays indy otherwise thats another spot taken.
acc 14 + nbe 12(uconn/ruty/temple/cincy/navy/usf/ucf/memphis/uh/smu/bsu/sdsu) +lville+army +byu + army + +ecu +unr +unlv. lets say thats the cream of the crop and not going to argue a smiss or uab type right now. thats 34 teams. 16 minus 34 is 18. there will be a 5th best conf thats not as good as the 4 but it will be a player. now how those top 4 get to 16 is a debate, but lets asume they take some acc schools before others. pretty much no matter how you look at it when you get to 16 schools not taken, a majority of them were looking like nbe teams anyway. so those schools should stand tight and also pick the acc apart in the end to get its 12, 14 or 16 or w/e it wants. heres an example.

b12 adds fsu/clem/gt/lville
sec adds ncst/vt
b10 adds uva/md/unc/kansas
b12 adds miami
pac adds bsu/byu/sdsu/unlv
b12 adds cincy/memphis

now those 4 are at 16 and this is left

nbe-uconn/ruty/temple/usf/ucf/uh/smu/navy
cusa-ecu
acc-cuse/pitt/duke/wake/bc
mwc-unr/
indy- army

now the nbe is the conf with the fresh contract and the acc is the conf with so schools that thought they were hot poop. who stands pat? i bet we do and we get army on board to go with navy asap. then add . thats 10. do we need to go west? mahh not from unr/fresno/hawaii types. going west before was about bsu a top 10 team, were not getting that this time. isn't to me going west. they can pod up with the texas schools and they are ok with travel, just look at puck.

so we build pods to f with the acc leftovers, were going to kill off there fball and let them all just play d1 bball witht he catholics onlys. thats the dream. were the only big dog in fball and those schools are in the big east bball league. and they will brag about it becuase all there fans are so cool, and we just point to th rafters then our fball stadium still in us.
north:-uconn/ruty/temple/army
south: navy/ecu/usf/ucf
west: /uh/smu/utsa(heres the shocker add, look them up and u will get why)

whats left on the market?
-a mwc at like 12 teams, they survive with fresno/ust/cst being somewhat of a upset bid some years to paycheck pac games, they do ok bball wise as a league.
-acc 5 drop fball and join up with the big east bball onlys and talk about there great bball league and how it gets 5mil a school becuase its so cool. they all play fcs ball with nova/gt in a new fcs fball league. its great.
-the nbe with 12 teams and a fat $15mil contract for being the only other contract out there. in bball, uconn and temple hold this league above water with several members currently improving. in fball we upset enough teams yearly where we are in the convo for a bid. we bitch and moan 365 about a 8 team playoff instead of 4. we know that the next round of expansion will be leagues going from 16 to 18 with the next tv contract. that will be the leagues ways of maxing out inventory and restoring old rivals within leagues by balancing divisions.
i expect to see:
b10+uconn/ruty
sec+ tcu/utsa
b12+smu/ecu/uh
pac+unr/fresno
then we don't give a crap about the nbe, all the losers that tried to f with us for years are playing fcs ball, were in a great conf getting huge $$$$ and to boot this is the best bball league ever with michst/ind/unc/kan/uconn together. thats 5 of the top 10 best all time btw...fball is good and we have a east coast division of psu/unc/uva/md/ruty/tosu/ind/pur/uconn which is great for uconn. it gives us a shot at being 3rd to 6th most years which is bowl elgible and with a shot once in a while of winning the division(rare). in bball its great as we said and with uva/md/unc in the league our soccer/baseball other sports are all in a great home. this league owns nyc and they rotate chi town and nyc for bball tments. how do u like that for nuty nelson?

chew on that.:D death to bcu!!!!

It can only be good, movement means the possibility to move up. Let's not kid ourselves here, the ACC is a lot better than this turd pile, FSU or no FSU.

We have no idea what the ACC will look like. The same guy on WVU that has been flogging the FSU/Clemson Big 12 rumor for weeks also said that Maryland and VTech have started looking in recent days. UNC and UVa could be in the Big 10 in hours if they wanted to go.

I agree. The NBE could be better than a completely gutted ACC. If FSU, Clemson, GTech, Miami all go to the Big 12 and UNC, UVA, Maryland, and Duke go Big 10, and NC State and VTech go SEC the ACC is only left with WF, BC, Cuse and Pitt. 2 of those 4 could go Big 12 to bring it to 16 so really the ACC could be completely finished. Not worth joining at all. The last two standing would probably be forced to come to us rather than the other way around. I think this would also cause the Pac 12 to scrounge up 4 western schools to get to 16 as well and the age of the 4, 16 team super-conferences will have dawned.

If the ACC gets poached it's going to be a fire sale. As I've said before the attractiveness of their members and the low value of their contract will have sealed their fate. If the ACC actually gets broken apart we better get used to being in a conference with Memphis, Temple, Louisville, Houston, SMU, UCF, USF, Wake Forest, and BC because I think that's what we'll be left with.
