"It's Danny Hurley, it's UCLA, it's Michigan State." I'm not sure if that is super impressive for Danny or a diss on UConn.
UCLA seems to spread it out. UConn needs to tighten up the 3's
If players try to play with calf strains, depending on the severity, it can increase the chance of an achilles injury. Tyrese Haliburton went through that in the NBA Finals game 7.If Dent actually has a calf strain as reported yesterday then I don't see how he's 100% by Friday. In the NBA guys aren't turning around and playing that soon unless its do or die like Haliburton.
Whining? This. Both our seed and our draw was fair.
And could everyone quit the damn whining about St. John’s also being the East. We should be so lucky if we get to the regional final to have them waiting for us rather than Duke. That’s your complaint? (And yes, I would have given them a 4 rather than a 5 but if you accept we’re as high as we are because of what we did before conference play started, quit whining that St Johns is paying for having not accomplished a damn thing before conference play started.)
By the way — 2 rounds in Philly and then 2 in DC happened in ‘06. And ended with George friggin Mason.
UConn won the national championships coming through Buffalo in 2014. It's not always bad luck.
Does any other league have the two teams that just played each other in the conference tourney finals in the same region?Whining?
It's not whining to protest that a league, with only three bids, had its top two teams placed in the same bracket thus making it impossible to max out the number of shares the league could have earned if UConn and St. John's both made the Final Four.
Sure that would likely have been a long shot but now it's impossible. If I want to waste some time in the next day or two I'll look at the brackets to see if any other league experienced a similar fate.
Yes. The Teddy Allen game. And ‘04.
But Hurley obviously is spooked by the ‘22 game. As am I.
For whatever it's worth, both MAC teams are in the Midwest Region. It's not whining to protest that a league, with only three bids, had its top two teams placed in the same bracket thus making it impossible to max out the number of shares the league could have earned if UConn and St. John's both made the Final Four.
With St. John's a 5-seed, that principle does not apply. Each of the first four teams selected from a conference shall be placed in different regions if they are seeded on the first four lines,
With St. John's a 5 and UConn a 2 that principle is met... they can't meet before the regional final.Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional final if they played each other three or more times during the regular season and conference tournament. This principle can be relaxed if a league has nine or more teams in the tournament.
This principle would push St. John's to the East... provided the first principles are met.Teams will remain in or as close to their areas of natural interest as possible, as determined by mileage from campus to the venue.
This probably wasn't considered... but both St. John's (2) and UConn (8) were in the West last year.If possible, after examining the previous two years’ brackets, teams will not be moved out of its natural region or geographic area an inordinate number of times.
So you think total viewership for a game between two Eastern teams (UConn and Furman) will be greater with a 10 PM local time start on the East Coast versus a 7:25 PM local time start and a game between a well known Western team (UCLA) and a little known Eastern team (UCF) will be greater with a 4:25 PM local time start on the West Coast? The games times are not about fairness or respect. They are about maximizing TV viewership. And if you think they could get more viewers by flipping game times, take it up with the supercomputers and formulae used by CBS. But between you and CBS do you want to guess where the smart money is?
He's scored single digit points in half of our last 16 games. He's supposed to be Mr. Reliable and he's been incredibly unreliable. I don't know what it is but we really need him to snap out of it if we're going to make any noise. Mullins also needs to start making threes again.Hate to put most of the pressure on the back of one person but our chances to go far in this tournament depend largely on whether or not Alex gets back in the groove and starts hitting open threes. We work hard for open shots but we can't afford to miss as many as we do. Some teams need to get hot to win. We just need to be more consistent.
I plan to look tomorrow.Does any other league have the two teams that just played each other in the conference tourney finals in the same region?
Especially the opener! They need to come out blazing and blow Furman out! Destroy them, get back to dominating, and have a less stressful 2nd half. It's human nature to work only as hard as you need to but after the awful losses, there is no wiggle room for bad stretches. We tend to play down to our opponents this season. Two What The Fizzle losses this season. This team better focus and not overlook any opponent, even the opener.
The placement of UConn is not only fair, it’s advantageous. The whining by UConn fans is unjustified. We looked like a #9 seed against St. John’s.They still use the S-curve, but they make exceptions for conference schools and non-conference rematches, and geography is a factor. There is also scrubbing which can move a school up or down. Conference schools seeded 1 to 4 are not put in the same region if possible and schools that played 3 times during the season can't meet until the regional final which is how St. John's got into the East with UConn as they are a 5 seed and they wouldn't meet until the regional final.
Rothstein has us in the Final 4, knocking off Pitino and the Johnnies in the Elite 8! Then advancing to the Championship game and ultimately losing the rematch to Purdue.
Dan Hurley "The Carpenter"
Or they assume UConn/East coast fans will watch the 7pm game either way and would have gone to sleep if it wasn’t for UConn playing. So to keep viewership we get a late junky time.So you think total viewership for a game between two Eastern teams (UConn and Furman) will be greater with a 10 PM local time start on the East Coast versus a 7:25 PM local time start and a game between a well known Western team (UCLA) and a little known Eastern team (UCF) will be greater with a 4:25 PM local time start on the West Coast?
For that to be true, the supercomputers and algorithms must show UCF is a bigger draw than UConn and UCLA. No wonder the P4 keep rejecting us.
I thought St Johns got screwed. They have to play Kansas in round of 32, Duke in sweet 16, UConn or Michigan St in Elite 8. Thats a terrible draw. Was interesting reading through the St. John's fans frustration about their seeding. Lots of folks who were resigned to UConn potentially getting the same seed as St. John's or higher if St. John's was disrespected (most seemed to be expecting a 3/4 for the Johnnies).
The responses about UConn getting a 2 despite "Losing to Marquette" while they were stuck as a 5 was interesting... they seem to have forgotten that UConn had as many wins against top-16 seeds out of conference play, as they had games (all losses) against any tournament team. (St. John's was 4-4 overall; 0-3 out of conference against tournament teams; UConn 8-3; 6-1 out of conference)
I really like the draw I just have no idea if we'll show up.This bracket is tough sledding. I feel like the committee went out of its way to put us through a meet grinder.
I'd be surprised if UConn and St. John's weren't already locked into their seeds before the Big East Tournament.Fancy stats aside, Kansas being a 4 seed with their home loss to UConn and them fading down the stretch and St John’s being below them despite winning all but one game since early January and 6 losses total blows my mind.
