OT: East #2

7 of their losses were by 5pts or fewer. They have size and at least one very talented dude who wants to kill us on a personal level. Meanwhile we're mentally and (mostly) physically soft.

Look, anything can happen in the tournament but it's hard to play up close losses to Wofford and The Citadel and not sound like a complete bozo.

We have EASILY the most entertaining bracket. Pitino, Scheyer, Self, Cornin, Hurley, Izzo. My lord, talk about a collection. Louisville.

That's 6 of the top 10 brands in college hoops.

Couldn't ask for more - Elite 8, no excuses. We get UCLA on EST, a MSU team that can't score well with a limited front court.

I like that we landed in the East, and geography. About as good a situation as you can ask for. We also get the Friday/Sunday games with an extra day of rest for Silas & Stew.

Good situation. Elite 8 or bust.

Playing good ol' Mark Furman. We damn well better take this seriously. I hope half the SJU team fouls out by halftime against Northern Iowa. Putting the 2 best Big East teams in the same region is very bizarre. Did anyone give any rationale for that?

Was interesting reading through the St. John's fans frustration about their seeding. Lots of folks who were resigned to UConn potentially getting the same seed as St. John's or higher if St. John's was disrespected (most seemed to be expecting a 3/4 for the Johnnies).

The responses about UConn getting a 2 despite "Losing to Marquette" while they were stuck as a 5 was interesting... they seem to have forgotten that UConn had as many wins against top-16 seeds out of conference play, as they had games (all losses) against any tournament team. (St. John's was 4-4 overall; 0-3 out of conference against tournament teams; UConn 8-3; 6-1 out of conference)

They won the conference and conference tourney. A 5.
They got ducked. And surprised they could not find a way to squeeze ‘ Nova into the East as well.

Overall I'm happy with this draw. It's not the easiest but it's not the hardest either. No clue on Furman though in the first round.

Also had half an eye as the Paladins defeated UNC Greensboro. No idea whether Furman’s a truly strong mid major. FWIW, one of the CBS Sports yappers mentioned the Paladins have among the tallest March Madness rosters and a quality frosh PG. Which UConn team appears Friday?
Furman is relatvely tall, but they are not big. Their centers are 6'11" 225 and 6'11" 215 compared to Reed at 6'11" 265 and Reibe at 7' 1" 260. Their frosh PG (from the Boston area) is 6' 5" 175 and a volume scorer with a 1.25 assist/TO ratio. (My guess is he will hit the portal as he was a late bloomer who didn't attract a ton of attention until late.). Other key players are 6' 4" 184, 6' 7" 220, and 6' 7" 200. I don't think their size will be an issue. Also, they are 32.7% 3 point shooting team, but 47.6% FG and a 69% FT shooting team.

They were 0-1 in Quad 1 games, 0-2 in Quad 2, 5-5 in Quad 3, and 14-4 in Quad 4. Their Quad 1 loss was against Northern Iowa by 16 points.

Both will play away from basket on occasion, especially Johnston.

Anyone else notice Clark picked UCLA to beat us?

I think ISU has a pretty easy path to the elite 8 in the Midwest
I noticed that and kind of hoped we would be in that bracket so I could go to the S16 and E8 games

Graphic is not showing UCF or South Florida

They’re still new to this, give them a break.

Rank St John 18th after they won something like 17 out of last 18 games is ridiculous.
They didn't do that well out of conference and then the BE was weak this year and didn't provide Q1 games. St. John's had 5 Q1 wins which is too low to get a good seed. Every team ranked above them had 7 or more Quad 1 wins. St. John's had a Quad 3 loss and only 2 teams ranked above them had a Quad 3 loss, Gonzaga and UConn.
