OT: East #2

Not anymore. The s-curve is trumped by geographic preference aside from the 5 not being paired with the 1.
They still use the S-curve, but they make exceptions for conference schools and non-conference rematches, and geography is a factor. There is also scrubbing which can move a school up or down. Conference schools seeded 1 to 4 are not put in the same region if possible and schools that played 3 times during the season can't meet until the regional final which is how St. John's got into the East with UConn as they are a 5 seed and they wouldn't meet until the regional final.

I know…I was responding to the comment that said the 1&2 seeds should have been paired strictly based on s-curve. That doesn’t happen anymore. The curve determines the seed lines but then bracketing Is primarily based on geographic preference as demonstrated by the fact that #8 MSU is the only team that didn’t get their preference.

It wasn’t because we already played Zona and UF already when we wouldn’t meet them until the elite 8 and the 1&2 seeds didn’t need to be shuffled around due to conference affiliation this year.

Looking at how things shook out between UConn and Florida given they were battling for the last #1 seed, how does everyone feel? I'd rather our placement in the East...
Except for Houston Florida has it good

I would take Florida's bracket or Houston's for that matter. Pretty easy

We're the higher seed than UCLA. Why should they get more rest til Sunday than us? Plus people in LA will have a game that starts late afternoon for them.
The games times are not about fairness or respect. They are about maximizing TV viewership. And if you think they could get more viewers by flipping game times, take it up with the supercomputers and formulae used by CBS. But between you and CBS do you want to guess where the smart money is?

No leadership on this team.
I have an idea. Just for fun, list all the coaches with more NCAA championships than Hurley since Hurley came to UConn. Then list all the coaches with as many ‘ships as Hurley since Hurley came here. Luckily, we won’t waste a lot of ink with people printing out your lists.

This is not women’s basketball. Teams aren’t going to win championships every year and coaches — even the ones as great as Calhoun — aren’t going to overperform expectations every year.

We have EASILY the most entertaining bracket. Pitino, Scheyer, Self, Cornin, Hurley, Izzo. My lord, talk about a collection. Louisville.

That's 6 of the top 10 brands in college hoops.

Couldn't ask for more - Elite 8, no excuses. We get UCLA on EST, a MSU team that can't score well with a limited front court.

I like that we landed in the East, and geography. About as good a situation as you can ask for. We also get the Friday/Sunday games with an extra day of rest for Silas & Stew.

Good situation. Elite 8 or bust.
That’s big talk. An easier bracket would be better but it is what it is? You want to play St. John’s again, 4 th time? Duke? I would rather not play either of them to get to the FF.

Friday 10pm ? More time for Silas to rest. And Stewart to recover. So not bad.
The bad part though is UCLA or UCF get more rest for Sunday. UConn game probably ends around 12:45am. Team probably gets back to hotel and sleep at 2 am. Better be a Sunday night game.

At least its not back to back days like in conference tourney. But yes was curious if this implies later start Sunday.

We had a similar time in last year's 1st round, and then played the early game on Sunday. I could see that happening if its UCF/UConn. UCLA/UConn I figure would be later. Less rest for us, but also less prep for teams facing our offense.

Need to pay attention to UCLA's health this week. If they are banged up, I think we get UCF if we advance to the 2nd round.
If Dent actually has a calf strain as reported yesterday then I don't see how he's 100% by Friday. In the NBA guys aren't turning around and playing that soon unless its do or die like Haliburton.

Can we stop talking up UCF like they're some kind of special? They beat a Richie Saunders-less BYU and shot the lights out that night (I know because I actually was watching that game). And since that game they are 1-4, their only win in OT against a tourney-less and now coach-less Cincinnati team... in overtime. Arizona boat-raced them in the quarterfinals of the Big12 quarterfinals.

Objectively UCLA has been playing a lot better basketball recently than UCF. They just beat Michigan State in the Big10 tournament, and have won 4 of their last 5, including a 20-point pasting of Nebraska.

I have no idea what some of you are watching or pay attention to, but it is obviously not the actual recent results of these teams. UCLA is the higher seed and an early 6 1/2 point favorite in their matchup coming Friday night, and for good reason. I would much rather face UCF than UCLA the way the two teams have been playing and trending in the last several weeks. Particularly when you realize that as much as we have had fun picking on the angry leprechaun (a.k.a. Mick Cronin) over the years, the guy can coach.

I don't think it was an opinion. Hurley basically said it in his presser
