Dom Amore’s Sunday Read: Why Cooper Flagg fits UConn’s model of ‘basketball people'

With this stuff I have a saying: "Cover your nuts" because you can get a harder kick at the end of a fight. But we are in it to win it. The UConn way. Donyell may miss 2 at the stripe, we may sleepwalk with Ray Allen through a Miss ST mismatch. Or we may Kemba, or Bazz and Boat, or KHALID and shock the world. Anyway, I like our university.

So basically those of you who took his reminiscence tweet to mean he was laying the groundwork to backtrack, you were correct. But didn't say we were leading or anything, just have a shot.

Essentially he just re-learned something this board has internalized: recruiting is fluid.
Doesn’t mean we are getting Cooper but it’s truly too close to call. Bet hedging time!

That trilly back track is pretty significant.

Puts us seriously in the game, if we weren't he absolutely wouldn't say that... And the timing of putting that out the Monday after his OV to Duke... Not the trilly update I'd want to see today if I was a Duke fan.

Maybe the nerds turned Cooper off by spreading rumors of UConn paying him to visit.

If I am Duke fan I am not very happy. Trilly back tracking, and that was a back track, and essentially. Whatever he said when he said uconn had no shot at Flagg is out the window.

Trilly don’t know.

If nothing else, I love that it will make Duke fans uncomfortable. Like, UConn is the underdog here. The only reason I am dying for UConn to get the kid is I, I legit love him as a player. I will watch duke games to watch him. If he is anything like the kid we’ve seen on tv. Love the game.

Wonder if maybe this drags on into the season a bit so he can get a look at the 2 rosters in action if it’s this close?

I would be over the moon if the huskies land cooper. I think Duke will win out. It’s his dream school and sadly that usually wins out. Regardless who ever gets him really won’t matter long term because it’s a one and done. All the talent doesn’t guarantee a title. They both have winning history, a winning culture. He can’t go wrong with either program. I think in the end he will choose Duke because it’s been his dream. Hurly is a far better coach but sometimes that isn’t the decision factor. I hope I’m wrong and he becomes a Husky!!! Miracles do happen.

Dauster said everyone he’s talked to still thinks it’s Duke

Also said he doesn’t think anything changed since a month ago (neglecting to even mention his UConn visit) which is just plain incorrect even if he picks Duke

I wouldn’t dismiss him that quickly but like I said with Trilly if anyone had info prior to yesterday it’s 99% coming from Duke people or people who don’t know or guesses based on public quotes.

For example Trilly said he expects the recruitment to be over in 7-10 days. Probably based on Flaggs moms quote a few weeks ago:

“Unless he’s unbelievably confused, I’m pretty sure he’s going to make a decision very quickly after he visits Duke,” Flagg’s mother, Kelly, told The Messenger. “That way, he can put it behind him and focus on what he needs to do to get better.”

There’s in the weeds and then there’s in the weeds to the extent that this thread is in the weeds.

I am going to assume that nothing has changed and that Duke should be presumed the leader here. If he picks UConn, yay. If he picks Duke, meh, he’ll be there for six months. World will keep spinning either way.

We have become the weeds. We are one with the weeds.
