Better to be FBS in CUSA than Indy in FBS.

If the MAC isn’t an option then what else is there to say?

The A-10 is what I call a Tier 2 league. It is not one of the six power conferences, but it is usually a multi-bid league that is ranked between #7-#12.

CUSA is the #13 league. It is a Tier 3 league. It is always a one bid league. The gap between the #12 and #13 league this year is huge.

A-10 is certainly trending in one direction. 1 or 2 bids for a 15 team conference. UMass has made the dance 1 time in like 25 years. I'm pretty sure most UMass fans are fine with tanking their A-10 conference standing if it means playing football in a G5 conference. If they aren't, they need a check-up.

And why on earth would USF prefer that over the AAC?
 
Matt Brown (Extra Points) seems to hint the #12 will likely be UMass.

Yes. CUSA for FB only. Again, soon there will be nowhere for us to go but down as an Indy sked will not be viable.

The MAC would have been a better fit for Delaware. Maybe the MAC wasn’t interested? They turned down Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky last year.

No MTSU turned down the MAC, which burned WKU.
 
Probably more likely that none of MAC, CUSA, or Sunbelt would take UD without a partner and only CUSA would accept UMass football only as that partner.

CUSA is not taking UMass for football only. They would have to join in all sports.
 
Delaware's 2023 105 man football roster was 85.7% from MA/CT/NY/PA/NJ/DE/MD/DC/VA. Their 2023 men's basketball roster is 100% from those states. The schools entire alumni base is also constrained to just the mid Atlantic / north east.

They'll now play entirely outside of that area.

The reality is they chose to upgrade from CAA where they can take a bus ti most games.

They won’t get any sympathy.
 
Big unknown out there is OSU/wazzou.

If they don’t merge with the MW, but instead cherry pick, that will leave the MW looking for back fill. And western CUSA couid supply those teams.

Well, they do have Liberty in VA, and their home games, and maybe UD will now recruit more kids from Florida and Texas due to playing in those states. It's all ball bearings nowadays.

I've learned that UD has an almost $2 billion endowment, is a land grant, sea grant and space grant institution, is ranked fairly high for academics, and is a privately governed, state-assisted research university, whatever that means. That's what FBS does for your school! It's already above Maryland, as far as I'm concerned.
