OT: Darryn Peterson

Maybe allowing players to be eligible for the NBA out of high school again and some adjustments to NIL contracts to include specific verbiage (if they already do not) could be the fix.

It’s funny. The 2nd round guys play hard because they make more money in college. The top guys can slack because they know they will get multiple NBA contracts if they are good enough. That’s the bet.
Other than Peterson - who is definitely dealing with some legitimate physical issues - who are the top guys who are slacking?

If Bill Self had any self-respect, pun intended, he would not even play him based on his attitude, you know damn well Hurley would do the same if one of his players did that. That being said we don't know the full story just what media Outlets report, maybe he's still dealing with his hamstring injury.
Would Hurley? Many thought that Bouknight was more than taking his time coming back from injury his last year, but the moment he determined he was ready to play he was in the lineup.

Coaches are in impossible positions these days. We are not going to see people do this at a high level for 30 or 40 years like we used to. Make your dough and then do something sane.

The difference is he's looking at hundreds of millions of dollars - and you can tell me all you want about being a teammate to college kids, but that's nothing to mess with. You only get a chance at hundreds of millions in salary once.

Again I emphasize, I'm not saying I'm cool with him not being reliable to his teammates...but preserving the cash cow is a fairly common sense thing too.
The answer is actually quite easy. If a kid is good enough that the NBA (or any other pro league) is willing to pay him huge bucks right away, let him take it and not have to show up at a college for a year. Then, if a kid shows up at college, he has some motivation to increase his value in all manners since he didn’t yet have enough value that someone in the NBA was willing to pay him tens of millions for one year while he satisfies an arbitrary age criteria.

I really didn't like Dybantsa coming into the season because of his father pimping him out for NIL. That being said, the kid LOVES to ball, clearly. With the right mentor he'll shine. I take him #1

Steven A interviewed him on Mad Dog last week and wow, I was impressed. What a great kid, intelligent and a really good interview. He’s a team kid, knows what he needs to do in order to win and will do anything to make that happen. Defense and rebounding are things he knows he has to improve, yet he’s pretty damn good at them already. I’d take him 1 as he will be a great player and a really good rep of a team.

“You’d have to be naive not to be concerned,” an NBA executive told The Sporting News’ Mike DeCourcy. “One of the scariest things in the league is a guy who has to be 100 percent to play.”

“Just saw (AJ) Dybantsa vs Iowa State – To me, he’s the 1st pick hands down,” an NBA scout told ZAGSBLOG.

Dybsanta will have a great, long NBA career. I think he’s the least likely to have something derail him of the big three (Boozer has an athleticism question and Peterson we’ve covered). I think it’s really unfair for anyone to criticize him, or anyone else, for selecting a one year opportunity based on money. If you’re ready to criticize him for that, you might want to consider a more socialistic country than this one, because most of America, given the opportunity, would disappoint you.

I guess everyone is talking about Peterson.

"Everybody's got an opinion on it," Peterson told ESPN between the Arizona and Oklahoma State games. "But basketball is my life. If I could have been out there every game this year, I would have. If you would have asked me last year, what were my goals for this year, I would never mention missing games. So all this stuff kind of just happened, but I've got to deal with it."

Article doesn't answer many questions about what the specific issue is. This year's NBA pre-draft process will probably look like an NFL's typical process in regards to leaks and stories with folks digging into his medicals
