I don’t really see holes with his game. On top of that, he is maybe the purest scorer prospect I can remember.
 
It is the best individual decision he could make, but it comes at the expense of the team and the program

NBA teams will have to weigh that when they put together their draft boards. Is it worth it to take the individual star potential, knowing there is selfishness that could come up at any time?

My guess is they say yes. He’ll still go top 3, likely 1 or 2. The NBA is much more player focused while college is much more team/coach focused. I don’t think this is a controversial take, he hasn’t dropped at all in mock drafts

Remember Ace Bailey’s pre draft drama? He still went #5. NBA front offices don’t care about this stuff if the player is a star

Super talented scorer who sits out whenever he feels like it and never passes the ball. Somehow, some way this guy is destined to end up with the Clippers.

You respect a player raising his hand with 17 minutes left in the game and telling his coach he's done for the day because he already got his 20 points? If he has this attitude he should have just skipped college and sat out a year before entering the draft. What team needs or wants this?

But it is also disappointing because Peterson's availability, or lack thereof, is undeniably obstructing the team's ability to have any semblance of continuity. It's hard to plan for the next half, much less the next game, when you don't know if your best player is going to have a cramping episode. (To say nothing, of course, about the inevitable distraction his saga has become.)

Yet another reason than donors need to be making these kids sign contracts with language about playing time/wins/stats, whatever.

Not sure why you are saying this? Sounds like you're good with what Peterson is doing.

To me, it's obvious that he's not injured, sick, or cramping... nor has ever been. He's been following his handlers (agent) "advice" and mitigating the possibility of injuring himself before the draft. That's it, full stop.

College means nothing to him other than being a source of significant $$$ before he moves on to greener pastures. If I'm an NBA team with a draft pick from 1 through 8, I'm passing. Him and his agent will hold him out of NBA games, why not? It's a shame because he's the most talented college player who's come through in at least a decade.

Will be interesting to see if he plays in the NCAA's.

That's a valid question, but...

So are we saying here that all players who are likely NBA draft picks should take Peterson's lead and make their own decision each game on whether they are going to play, or sit out, or play the 1st half, or take themselves out of the game?

Peterson is being paid handsomely to play. It's a very slippery slope that he's taking the college game down.

How would Indiana fans have reacted if Fernando Mendoza took himself out of the CFP championship game in the 1st half because Miami was sacking him and his agent didn't want to risk injury to the number 1 draft pick? This is a very slippery slope that Peterson is taking college sports down.
 
The Kansas fans I know are all very tired of his act. I wonder what he does in March.

That doesnt seem comparable to this. We saw his elbow bend the wrong way on TV, he sat out a month then was back to playing 35min a game and playing hard the rest of the season.

DP has "cramps", takes himself out, isnt stretching or on an exercise bike, he just sits there looking disengaged. This is not about being overly cautious of an injury. He is not injured. This a calculated decision to get some good game film and then do the absolute bare minimum to limit any risk of actually getting injured.

I would not draft this guy. If he can walk into Phog Allen, see the crowd and then be like "na don't feel like playing today", imagine what he does when he's expected to play 82 games a year for the Utah Jazz and a 9 figure bank statement already.

Not that I support everything he's doing, I just think everyone's been quick to call him out - the last game, taking himself out and Self admitting he didn't expect that, that seems different. But staying out of games because of hamstring injuries and ankle injuries, whether they're super serious or not, is understandable to me in this day and age.

So, I'm not supportive of a guy bailing on his team, but it seems the last game was a bit more unforgivable than the rest of the season, and people were on him since the first few games he missed.

I just think it's easy to judge the situation from afar, but if you're not in his position, who knows what you'd do.

There are a lot of other guys right now who are leaving it all on the floor.

Darius Acuff was in a walking boot 2 days before he played 50 minutes and dropped 49 points. Dybantsa, Boozer, Flemings, all the other lottery picks, Braylon Mullins are all playing hard every single game. Cooper Flagg was a lock for the #1 pick last year before the season started and never took a possession off.

I have no connection to Kansas and this whole situation makes me irrationally angry.

Yeah, I get it. Not everyone would be doing what Acuff did. But I get a fan liking that more than what Peterson is doing. That's obvious.

I also don't fault Peterson for being safe. It's gotten way worse lately, so I don't condone it, but if he was genuinely hurt earlier in the year, I didn't fault him for that.

He comes across to me as a super-talented dilletante.

The difference is he's looking at hundreds of millions of dollars - and you can tell me all you want about being a teammate to college kids, but that's nothing to mess with. You only get a chance at hundreds of millions in salary once.

Again I emphasize, I'm not saying I'm cool with him not being reliable to his teammates...but preserving the cash cow is a fairly common sense thing too.

His talent makes him worth the risk for somebody with a really high pick but no way in hell would I draft him #1 in this draft. He's revealed his mentality, that's not just something you turn on and off. The great ones always compete.

Yeah, but short of Sam Bowie it's not like they're now playing the college game with live ammunition.

He's been infested by a toxic mindset.
 
Cincy up 10 at KU and Peterson has some numbers but isn't seeming to help the offense flow.

The Peterson hype is overdone especially in a class like this. He's a supremely talented scorer but his mentality sucks, his team plays better without him and all he does is score.

I've felt like this take was overblown a bit ... but I must admit it's getting more and more likely to be true as the season progresses.

He’s a smooth scorer but brings little else out there. Question is whether an NBA team cares. You don’t want to miss in this draft.
