OT: Darryn Peterson

It’s funny. The 2nd round guys play hard because they make more money in college. The top guys can slack because they know they will get multiple NBA contracts if they are good enough. That’s the bet.

It occurred to me amost immediately, but I decided to keep reading, and stay quiet, because I felt it wouldn't be liked or appreciated, and I didn't really care all that much about bringing it up.

In fuller context, I'll admit that I'm bothered by UConn fans here who are pleased by their winning bets against the spread, and are essentially short-selling the Huskies and splitting their rooting interests within individual games.

Most importantly, I have my own bundle of inconsistencies and human imperfections, so I'm no better than those I implicitly criticize.

For the record, I've never seen Peterson play, so I don't know how he plays. I share the overall thumbs down opinion of his irregular participation record, but I also wonder what betting markets there are that predict whether he'll play or not, how many minutes he'll play, when he'll be chosen in the draft, how many games he'll play next year, how many minutes per game he'll average, what kind of sponsorship deals he'll get signed to, and so so so much more.

Afterthought: Has somebody trademarked "Darryl & the Miracles," in hopes that he does a Danny Manning?

I don't want this type of 5 star recruit, it's that simple

I don't love one and done players to begin with, he's not even one and done.

And yes, I appreciate what Castle brought to the table. Doesn't change my overall opinion.

DP is an outlier. AJD, Boozer and Wilson play as hard or harder than anyone. This is a DP thing, not an NIL thing. Need to kill that narrative. It’s about the kid.

He’s the only one like it? The others are great. I’d take any of them. We have had an annual OAD.

He should have shut it down before today. I think he cost himself some money.

We know what happened to Ben Simmons but he was good enough once to earn a max contract. Anthony Edwards got questioned plenty for his mentality in college. This is different only slightly. Some guys don’t want to play in college and shouldn’t have to

That's up to the NBA. IMO, one of the reasons they got rid of the one-and-done was so they could see how these guys handle things in the real world. He seems like a scorer for a bad team at best. Perfect for Utah or Sacramento.

True enough. All I’m saying is there is recent precedent for an uber talented guy questioned for his commitment in college who turned out fine. Maybe he burns out, but I’m not betting on that

Right now. Kansas has 7 losses. At the rate, are they guaranteed a spot in the tourney? They are a prime candidate for a first week exit. Never have I seen a program with so much talent year after year, squander their upside. Self has stayed too long at the fair.

There are kids with character and kids without. Nobody on this board would want Peterson over Steph Castle. All the guys you mentioned are warriors, Peterson isn’t one of them.

Perhaps but only due to his age. We know what Yaxel will deliver, we’ve only seen Peterson in a handful of games. Not denying his upside, but everyone on this board can name players who were destined for greatness but never delivered.
