OT: Darryn Peterson

He should be allowed to play in the NBA. I just can’t get bent out of shape as to whether a bunch of Kansas boosters are getting their money’s worth
That's up to the NBA. IMO, one of the reasons they got rid of the one-and-done was so they could see how these guys handle things in the real world. He seems like a scorer for a bad team at best. Perfect for Utah or Sacramento.

Nah, he could've played with Overtime Elite or in Europe.

True enough. All I’m saying is there is recent precedent for an uber talented guy questioned for his commitment in college who turned out fine. Maybe he burns out, but I’m not betting on that

The Kansas fans I know are all very tired of his act. I wonder what he does in March.
Right now. Kansas has 7 losses. At the rate, are they guaranteed a spot in the tourney? They are a prime candidate for a first week exit. Never have I seen a program with so much talent year after year, squander their upside. Self has stayed too long at the fair.

how many players throughout the nation bolt their football team before the bowl game to go into portal or not get injured before the draft. This ship has sailed.

.-.
There are a lot of other guys right now who are leaving it all on the floor.

Darius Acuff was in a walking boot 2 days before he played 50 minutes and dropped 49 points. Dybantsa, Boozer, Flemings, all the other lottery picks, Braylon Mullins are all playing hard every single game. Cooper Flagg was a lock for the #1 pick last year before the season started and never took a possession off.

I have no connection to Kansas and this whole situation makes me irrationally angry.
There are kids with character and kids without. Nobody on this board would want Peterson over Steph Castle. All the guys you mentioned are warriors, Peterson isn’t one of them.

.-.
Boozer and Dybantsa is a perfectly reasonable argument. Yaxel Lendeborg is in his 6th year of college, there is a less than zero chance anyone is taking him over Darryn Peterson
Perhaps but only due to his age. We know what Yaxel will deliver, we’ve only seen Peterson in a handful of games. Not denying his upside, but everyone on this board can name players who were destined for greatness but never delivered.

The thing with DP is there are many that watched him on the HA circuit where none of these things presented. I’m sure in today’s day and age, if an NBA team takes him it will be based on extensive due diligence.

That said, Atlanta took Risacher with their first pick a couple years ago so even first picks can be missed, even in today’s world.

Why do people think Peterson will go all out in the NCAA Tournament? He's more likely to slack or sit then than he is the regular season given that he'll be a Top 3 pick and he's clearly focused on that.

Deliver at the next level? Remains to be seen but Dalton Knecht was another 23 year old dominating college hoops a couple of years ago and he can't get on the floor for the Lakers outside of garbage time or when the main guys are injured.

Knecht was such a different profile - he was a shooter. Yaxel is a very athletic do it all 6'9". It would seem his physical profile would translate really well, just not sure if there are any flags upstairs. There is no reason a kid with that level of talent should still be in college, so I'm guessing something is up.

I lost track of him. Didn't he get some run early on?

He was much more than just a shooter he was putting it on the floor, scoring off the dribble, and dunking on guys as well. Knecht was a PG who sprouted up several inches after he got to juco and his first stop at the lower D1 level. If a GM takes a guy in Yaxel who has spent 6 years in college over Peterson they will be in the same wing as Nico Harrison in the NBA front office hall of shame.

Yes, actually had some 30 balls early in his rookie year but his defense is atrocious and also think he lost confidence and felt indifferent about being a Laker after the botched trade to Charlotte.

How old is this kid? He looks like he's the same age as Lebron. Some get a birth certificate. Maybe he's just 38 years old and doesn't want to show his age out there.

Yesterday, I saw Boozer after he returned from 4 fouls, and then a full game of Dybantsa.

If he plays, I'll be seeing Peterson tomorrow for the first time. I watched Kansas beat Arizona without him, and did not see Saturday's loss to Cincinnati.

In simplest terms, Boozer looked 'good as advertised.'

Dybantsa looked all-around terrific, like an extension of his second half against UConn without my being focused on his team losing.

Hoping to form my own opinion of Peterson tomorrow, and appreciative of others' here.

Would NOT trade him and all that baggage for even one of our current walk-ons, don't care.
