I actually think the machines are faster than the wands. But what are they going to do when it rains?

That was my thought too. I even wondered if a lot of the tailgaters never bothered witth the game. The Aircraft Club and Blue lot were filled to almost capacity. Kinda looked like the Michigan game. And then the stadium was more than half empty.

Students will always leave early because of the stadium location. They will leave earlier because of the lack of geographical opponents. Fan engagement (especially students) will continue to be a huge task for athletics...Deal with it.

What a walk, over a 1/2 mile. If everyone in the damn parking lots actually went to the game maybe we would have had 30k. Disappointing to walk past hundreds of people that clearly had not plans to go in.

I love a drink, have beverages all the time, but there really are too many in the parking lot and walking into that place too sh-tfaced by any reasonable standard. It hurts the atmosphere - and I am not a prude. Have some self respect.

Exactly how I feel about it. I showed up an hour early with my son, and we were buried at the end of Red Lot also (Section M or N). I said to myself, "Self...this crowd is going to be packed and hyped up!" Nope. Like you mentioned, a large chunk of those folks never showed up to the stadium. I love playing cornhole and throwing down a beer as much as the next guy, but....really?? My kid has trouble using a stall in the bathroom after the second quarter because we struggle to find one without upchuck or explosive diarrhea in it. The "Coors Treatment". Poor janitorial staff.

I don't get it. It will be interesting to see if winning changes the demographics and / or behavior any from this year to next year...

Fair point. The lack of local rivals is a big problem for attendance in the CR age, and we're feeling that big time in both football & hoops.
 
We got to the Gray lot Silver Lane entrance around 9 am. It took 25 minutes to get to the Gray lot (a trip that usually takes five minutes). Blue lot was fuller than it had been all season. Lots of students walking--I'm guessing from the Red lot--more than any game this season. Homecoming, I know. (The pedestrians were part of the traffic delay. Suggestion: route pedestrians so they don't cross every parking lot entrance. It was like Frogger yesterday.) Gray lot was packed, too. We almost missed the Husky Walk because of this delay. LAZ was worse than usual.

Where did all of those people go? Based on the traffic and tailgating, I expected a fuller stadium. The concourse was packed at halftime, but the seats seemed woefully empty. We sit in the sun behind the UCONN bench. Definitely a hat/visor day, but not as hot as other games this year.

Was in the concessions line for water (why aren't there water/beverage only lines or kiosks like there are for beer?) and missed the beginning of the third quarter. Could hear the stadium announcer, knew UConn was on the move. Got close enough to the front of the line to see the TV screen--and the Boston College/Virginia game. What the.....

If it took you half of the first quarter to get in you must have gotten in the line pretty late. At 11:40 it took us about 5 minutes to go through our line.

I don't get the problems getting in. Unless you are waiting until 5 min before Kick-off it shouldn't take more than a minute or two. If you are at the gate before the band starts you breeze right in. THB, after 3+ hours of tailgating, I'm more than ready to get inside.

My only conclusion is that you people are doing it wrong.

Same goes for the people who can't get out of the lot.

They were in 137 down near the front. Actually, considering the geography I thought it was a decent showing by them. Also can't imagine there's many Tulsa alumni in this area, not like the old days with local rivals.

They were going right into the student section and they were making it noisy as anything. And of course there was the Pitt game in '04 when Tyler Palko couldn't stop getting false starts in the shadow of their own endzone because the student section was almost deafening.

Now what the heck? They don't ever stay the whole game no matter what the score is. Do their buses leave early or something?

Many students go to party and leave when the parking lot partying suppose to curtail. The theory is that gets them in the Stadium, the reality is they go back to campus.

As I said, I agree with everyone hear that the fanbase could do better, but it's unrealistic to think you can change a narrative overnight. Beating mediocre Temple and Tulsa teams doesn't do that. What does do that is changing your identity to consistently win games, make bowls, and be entertaining. I am choosing to be patient with it and not call out anyone since I don't think that accomplishes the intended goal.

I tend to agree. I myself missed my first home football game in a long time - but I had UConn Athletics in mind throughout the day.

At Lincoln Field (Temple) they set off firework over the stadium a half hour before kick off.

After taking a moment to check if it was a terrorist attack, I realized this was a signal for the fans to start heading inside the stadium.

Though it was a good idea.

Tulsa is one of the two smallest schools in FBS (Rice is the other one). I know SMU has alumni who were originally from the East Coast and moved back east when they graduated. That's generally not true with Tulsa.

This is it exactly. We have a generation of kids that have grown up with bad UConn Football, simple as that. When we have a generation of kids that watches UConn punch above their weight (ideally, against teams we care about... one thing at a time)... guess what? Students will stay. Fans will stay. Not rocket science.
 
On attendance ...

UConn is surrounded by three pro franchises with strong fanbases and decades-long waiting lists for season tickets. When seats are available, what do they go for? $200? 300? In 2015 I tried to buy Pats-Cowboys tickets at Jerry World and the seats in the top row of the stadium went for $290. That's $870 for me and my two kids. Plus $75 for parking, etc. With food, we're near $1,000.

Our marketing department needs to emphasize the value of attending a college football game. Run ads comparing the costs of a college game vs. an NFL game, side by side. I have to believe there are many families (like mine) willing to spend $150 for a college game instead of $1,000 for an NFL game. Here in Dallas, I've been going to SMU games since 1989 ($20 tickets, free parking). But I'll never go to another Cowboy game again. It's just not worth it.

I don’t know for a fact because this is just from a co-worker who has son who is a frosh at UConn. She asked if I went to the HC game and she said that her son and her family were at the game and her son was bummed that he had to leave the game early because the buses left somewhere between the third and fourth quarter. Not sure if that’s 100% accurate or if that was because it was a Thursday night game but if it is true, then that would explain why the student section gets so empty by the 4th quarter. I know a lot of kids drive to the games but a large number take the bus. If the bus leaves early the kids have no choice but to leave.

Someone corr ct me please if I this info is wrong. Like I said, it came from a co-worker so not sure how accurate it is.
