HP's castigation in the original thread came from his derogatory attribution of feelings & motivations to a person of whom he has no personal (and slight impersonal) knowledge.

This would have been supported on the men's board???
Without even visiting the men's board, I don't doubt it. That's the stuff of most message boards.

Why I visit this board - the "community" as described above doesn't tend to support out-on-a-limb statements that are not supported by fact.

UNC is also a finalist for AW. Just ask Blake; he'll make that assertion...

Excuse me, but he started this thread because of his original post disparaging the recruit and how he was treated. It is certainly relevant here.

Waspish? That is the first time this Jewish guy has ever been called that.

Fair enough on your point.

Still think you're grumpier than usual today, tho.

I read the original HP post in the other thread and made a comment in that thread disagreeing with him. Your description of his post is accurate imo.

And yes that type of commentary is and has been presented frequently even as there are people attempting to moderate the tone of things. There were two recruits this past recruiting period, Abu and Perkins, whose recruitment process disturbed a number of posters on the men's forum and received commentary which was vitriolic in nature. Some commentary would never have been accepted in this forum. It's a different mind set. As I explained each of the Boneyard sites have developed a culture of their own.

The men's forum has everything from cerebral discussions to smack talk.

This forum went through an "atypical" phase during the Pat Summit fiasco regarding the SEC and NCAA investigation she initiated against Geno and UConn. I thought it was interesting that so many posters let their hair down and started to to express their opinions in a manner that approached what takes place on the men's forum on a daily basis.

The football forum is somewhere's between the women's bb and men's bb forums in the manner posters express their opinions and what constitutes civility. The CR forum is closer in its manner of commentary to this forum. The only thing that has changed over time is that the CR forum is currently heavily populated by non UConn folks.

I think so, too, and was going to ask him what was going on.

Has anyone made fun of his hat yet?

I'm kinda late to the party and I don't want to step on anyone's toes.
Definitely, something fishy. Don't Monkey with me. :-)

No it would not. A post like that of the #1 player in the class (say Andrew Wiggins from last year) would have been met with much more vitriol. He also would have been hung.

I've observed a lot of commentary in this forum that are opinions and not necessarily fact based. For instance Stef taking three's vs. playing in the post. That's the primary type of discussion that takes place in the men's forum and the discussion is very informative. It's the tonality of the language that is different. People just express themselves and are not concerned if the manner they speak will be condoned or attacked. I like a little spice in people so that behavior doesn't offend me.

It is refreshing in a way because not many people in that forum wear masks to disguise their persona. We are so conditioned to "behave" in a certain manner we tend to forget who was that child our parents gave birth to as opposed to the child society says we have to be.

unless you are in lock step with all of the "regular" posters, or clear your post with them first. Or expect to be attacked from all sides.......Friendly site.

So I went back and read the series of posts that apparently upset you enough to post this bit - and it seems that most of the responses were pretty informative and not at all aggressive. They simply disagreed with you and offered back supporting their views.
You opined:

That she has an ego that UConn doesn't need, based upon the amount of material she has saved from the colleges pursuing her...and given that she is a #1 recruit, there is a lot of material which is understandable.

That she should have this all narrowed down to 4 schools by now...based on what? You offered no explanation for this point other than "it should look no different by 2014.

That she is enjoying this process way too much...again, based upon what evidence?

Have you insight to this process? Do you know what her area of study is going to be? What do you know about her situation other than she is a #1 recruit and UConn wants her, and that she plans on announcing at the regular signing period....mind you, regular signing period, and not the EARLY signing period which is the time frame in which we currently stand.

You say that your post is your opinion. Yes it is. My thought is that If you didn't want responses to your opinion, maybe you should have kept it to yourself and not posted it on the 'yard. However you didn't, you posted it on the boneyard and as far as the definition of forum is concerned, each post is open for comment.

And the hat actually looks good on you, so that's pretty much the end of whatever fun I might have been able to have.

I'm wondering if @Dove should be part of this. Maybe he would recommend it for Cooley.

Wow, DD. Seriously waspish today, eh what?

In this thread, he disparaged the Boneyard, not a recruit. You brought that (and your attitude about it) over here.
?
Nice try. You can't lose your baggage by starting a new thread. It don't rub off. He was commenting on the rx he got to his expressed opinion on the way a recruit was handling the process: he did not like the rx to his opinion about that. They are inseparably intertwined. Even a didacticalist - so up on the duality of things - can get that...okay,I made that didactic thing up, but you get my point...maybe?

I have a medical procedure tomorrow. I'm a little off.
Sorry to hear it, DD. Hope all goes well and you can return to your normal, irascible self. ;^)

If we were in an episode of Gunsmoke instead of a Basketball chatroom, the floor would be littered with bullet-ridden bodies by now and the piano player would have hightailed it out the door about 40 posts ago.

I think we all are grumpier than usual and I think I know why. SO we all can cut each other a little slack and hope for a better day.

Rude to the poster I have much less problem with than rude to someone you don't know who can't defend herself based on indefensible assumptions.

I granted the point on DD's didacticalitynessishness already.

(Which is a really long way around saying I wish I didn't have to ;^)

I don't know when I am going to stop laughing man! But thanks.

I'm guessing you're making an incorrect assumption about Aja. If she were here she'd just knock the hat off the guy to make Fishy happy.

...unless you have enough self-confidence to not take it personally when others disagree with you.

We all jump on the rude or ignorant ones. Informed disagreements are encouraged, especially if they're respectful.

There are a couple of posters that don't fit that mode. For them any disagreement will illicit a rude response.

We value couth.
I love the word "couth." My parents used to say it all the time, as in "Have some couth." Don't think I've heard it, seen it or thought about it in decades. Thanks for reminding me of it so I can now use it with my own children, and they can look at me like I'm embarrassing them.

This would have been supported on the men's board???

Let's not say that it would have been supported. Herb just would have had company on the gigantic bonfire we'd have had to build to dispose of his remains.

Someone would have agreed with him and the end result would have probably been quite a bit uglier.

I did a census years ago that may still apply. The fans on the men's board tend to be on the younger end of the age spectrum while the women's board posters are older. We have septuagenarians and octogenarians here, many of whom think of the players as surrogate children (or grandchildren). Interestingly, the majority of posters on both boards are male. There certainly are more women posting on this board but we're in the minority.

Different age groups = different attitudes and approaches.
