2026 Recruiting: Cole Cloer visiting this weekend

Tristen Newton was a tremendous floor general for an insanely talented team that didn’t need him to necessarily play great to win.

He consistently ran the offense the way it was needed to and at an extremely high level with no turnovers.

His natural size at 6’5 also helped us have a great advantage in both years.
As opposed to his artificial size?

I don’t think Solo would affect Cole. Just Mingo like you said.

If Mullins stays it’s his job to lose. I’m always favoring the more athletic and physically gifted players which is probably why I’m just not as sold on Furphy (especially when he’s not as consistently efficient when it comes to scoring) So if it comes down to the 6’8 above the rim shooter/scorer or him I’m going with the more talented fringe top 25 player.

Only a senior Ross who’s broken in with similar physical/athletic abilities could keep him from the job imo.
Ross could stay for 12 years and he’s not scaring anyone from coming here

Demary
Solo (Mingo if he and Mullins leaves)
Furphy/Ross
Stew
Reibe
Reibe will have to show a lot this year to lock down the starting C spot as a soph. Either way I assume we’re going after a big in the portal next summer to compete with him. If we land Cole and Mingo That would make for a solid 9 man rotation.

Good shape here. Biggest competition is a local school of his.
What does Carolina have at his position(s) right now? I don't pay much attention to Hubert's recruiting down there.

The local competition is NC State and Will Wade. They've been pushing hard for Cloer for a while.

Ahh, ok. I see both on his list, visited both of them.

He just moved up his Alabama visit to this weekend. I think we end up getting him eventually. Anyone know anything more than being posted?

Tristen played his best in the biggest games, but every game filled up the boxscore with points, rebounds and assists. Most importantly, he was a great teammate who did what it took to win.

I hope I am wrong, but I like to be the last visit. Alabama has a football bye this weekend.
That's helpful. Certainly better than a home game. Just keep him away from Sorority row.

Parading a 17 year old boy through sorority row at Bama on game day is always a risk. Might as well send him to Castle Anthrax.
Eh, this day and age not sure it really applies anymore. With all the money and draft stock on the line, it's more of a parent involved business decision than it is about sorority girls, especially when it's only a 1-2 year deal.

Don’t they generally also like First Night events too?
Not UConn players. Has there been a recruit that did his official visit on First Night weekend and committed under Hurley? If I recall correctly, Dan doesn't want them that weekend because he wants their full attention on the staff's presentation and not distracted by bell and whistles.

I agree that’s what Dan looks for. I can’t say for certain that first night dies or doesn’t move the needle in recruits’ decision making. I do recall Flagg and Ngongba committing shortly after attending Duke’s first night. That is not to say if UConn had first night and they attended it that it would have made a difference. Most of the schools we compete with have First Night and it seems to work well for them. Dan doesn’t appear to be a believer in having it. His results have obviously been great too.
