Ok, the pics are nice with UConn bling and all but does this mean he’s about to commit? Not visit other schools? Put their bling and jerseys on as he roams from school to school? Somebody help me out here.

Doesn’t mean anything. We get these pics after every visit.

Overall feeling with Cloer is pretty positive though.

lol. Was Charlie Villanueva a unicorn too? Just from last season there was Flagg, Grant Nelson, Alex Condon….All stretch PFs that can block shots.
You did say you wanted a “shooter” in this profile. Nelson and Condon were interchangeable at the 5, and neither known for their shooting. Both interior. This profile you want is a OAD rarity, like a Flagg, AJD, Ament.

We are obviously going hard after Cloer. I don't see him as realistically a backcourt player accept in a particular matchup. In the frontcourt we will be losing our primary rebounding strength (Reed, Karaban), and I think Hurley will play the guys in 2026 that can help us there. With Cloer, I;m from Missouri with regard to rebounding. Each time I watched him he reminded me of Tyler Polley who always in the scrum after the ball but had nominal rebounds at the end of the game. That is a real weak point that perhaps gets solved automatically by growth in strength and adding some weight over 1-2 years. As a player right now, I think he has a ways to go before he is a starter at UConn in 2026. I would welcome him but fully expect we will still need to be looking to the portal for a 2026 frontcourt impact player in order to be a championship contender.

He’s not starting as a freshman. No frosh likely is. Perhaps Mingo would have a fighting chance if things fell perfectly. He’s ranked close to 30 in a weak class, we should have plenty of returners to start next year. He’d be your 2027 starting 4. I am glad you’d welcome him, someone should let the staff know.

I’d personally have him marked as the starting 2026 3 unless Ross shows something to show he’ll be in line to start as a senior.

They take them we may or may not see them.
It’s the same photo package for every recruit. Everyone doesn’t follow it as closely as others. But we get these same generic pictures for damn near every visit. If the parents are present they take these exact same pictures.

I highly doubt that. And we don’t know who’s coming and who’s going, yet. Again, strong draft upcoming with weak one following, so anyone on fence may stick (Solo). I’d be apt to think 2026 could very well be:

Demary
Solo (Mingo if he and Mullins leaves)
Furphy/Ross
Stew
Reibe

It is tough for certain types of players to find themselves in lottery positions. There is no guarantee that anyone goes even after a fairly strong season.

The staff is wise to limit the number of recruits to the certain exits. Mingo comes to UConn, they can count on him being gone after the season. All others it is a wait until April.

OK, if so and they visit 8 schools they will have 8 photo packages dressed up in the different schools attire? If so it’s beyond lame, and not only that but it means less than nothing.
It shows no meaningful preference for our program if there are 7 more of those photo groups out there for different schools. And the best part is that we show these pics as if the kid is just in love with UConn. The same way he’s in love with Duke or Kentucky or whatever?

Very true. If Solo has a knock out year and stock is at peak, sure he should go despite strength of draft.

Whet you recruit a freshmen you have to be very intentional about it. How is that kid going to contribute year one, what do they bring that is unique that we need in next years roster? Mingo would be a big defensive guard that can penetrate. We don’t have a lot of that. A kid like Cloer, likely off the bench and then a starter at year two, which is a realistic expectation.

Did you not see the Cooper Flagg in UConn gear posts? This is how it is these days. Weird thing to get offended about

I don’t think Solo would affect Cole. Just Mingo like you said.

If Mullins stays it’s his job to lose. I’m always favoring the more athletic and physically gifted players which is probably why I’m just not as sold on Furphy (especially when he’s not as consistently efficient when it comes to scoring) So if it comes down to the 6’8 above the rim shooter/scorer or him I’m going with the more talented fringe top 25 player.

Only a senior Ross who’s broken in with similar physical/athletic abilities could keep him from the job imo.

So how did you feel about Spencer? Newton?

Different cases. Those were transfers who proved their ability and were able to make instant impact because they already had that experience under their belt.

But I felt good about both. I have a screenshot of a hot take Spencer opinion I ended up being right about too 😉

Saw it. Doesn’t make it less dumb. I wonder how this whole thing works? The recruit arrives and during touring the facility UConn has its own photographer doing the lame photo shoot, all preprogrammed. Every other school does it so if we don’t then we lose an advantage? That kind of sounds like it.
If we are going to play this game we should try to one up and go next level. Roll out a red carpet lined by cheering fans with Hurley presenting one of our NCAA trophies and then pull the ticker tape.

I hear they have discontinued recruit photos since it pisses jibsey off. Didn't realize he had that much sway.

Every other school doesn’t have 6 trophies to saturate a recruit in. I think you need to spend more time learning about that generation. They’re different.

this generation likes to post pictures to their IG's, who cares?

Schools are already trying to one up each other with these things. That's what Flagg's visit to Duke was all about, with the fans and that weird baby.
