Changes To the Offensive Staff Coming

That is the only thing that makes sense here. The other proposal is that Diaco extends the OC/OL/TE duties to Cummings, which I feel is asking for too much, so I don't see this happening.
Theres no way Cummings takes a step down from OC to coach JUST the OL and TE. But I would like to see a change at OC.

I guess I missed the quote from Diaco saying that the only thing he was doing to change the offense was to get rid of the offensive line coach.
I believe it is only the first change we will see. How much of the staff will change? That remains to be seen. Things have been quiet for a while, its going to be a long off-season and people are jumping to conclusions at the first sign of news and rumors.

And his comment about big o lineman just reeks of Coach P. I didn't think I could get more depressed about the state of the program. Guess I was wrong.

I am going to miss Coach Foley. He deserves better.

We will all miss coach Foley and I wish him the best, but lets not get discouraged we have a guy who coached up Eric Fisher in Cummings. Let's not forget that we all wanted a new OC and this might actually be possible now that Foley is gone. If Cummings is moved to OL/TE we have an OC job to be filled, so let's hope that's how this turns out.

Why wouldn't he? Diaco and Cummings are best friends, and if its for the benefit of the team for him to step down then I don't see why he wouldn't do that.

Really? Would you want to step down from your current job, to a lower level job and a pay cut? I wouldn't either.

It happens all the time this wouldn't be nothing new, its business, nothing personal.

Why would anyone do that to stay with the same team that just went 2-10? He would basically have been fired as OC. Think of the same way as the TJ Weist situation. Many wanted Weist to remain HC, myself included. Some countered with bringing Weist back as OC again. It was never going to happen. Being given HC duties and then taking a step back to be OC again. Same instance here with Cummings. While he wasn't the OL/TE coach promoted to OC and then going back, I view it in a similar light. Taking a step down with the same team/program is not in the cards.

#1 - Any chance Foley left on his own?
#2 - OK Spackler, I'll bite .... Donald Thomas and Danny Murray ;)
Foley maybe decided to take another job? Elsewhere? For more money?

Whether you agree or not it happens all the time, but we shall see what happens with this situation.

I'm not going back and forth wit you dude do your own research
Why? Dude. I don't see or hear of what you say anywhere. At least it never makes any news, dude. Prove it, dude.

Last year was for saying things (or painting pictures). This year is about doing things (on the field). I hope HCBD impresses the crap out of me (which also happens to be the deliverable for next year).

Three pages of hand wringing over this? Must be the off season. C'mon guys, it's so simple.....Diaco is merely saying that next year, when he is asked the question, he will actually know who is calling plays. As opposed to this year - to wit

"The game plan is built by Mike Cummings and his staff all week so the offense goes to the game with a scripted plan then everyone has jobs to execute that plan," Diaco said. "For example, you're doing a speech and standing next to you is a sign language specialist. Is the sign language specialist doing the speech or are you doing the speech?
"Mike Cummings details out the game plan for the day and then he's giving jobs to his staff to accentuate assets and limit liabilities."
Diaco has said plays are scripted during the week, so every call has been prepared.
Patterson followed Cummings' plan, which wound up being altered by Diaco to scrap the passing game because of a combination of issues including weather conditions, field position, pass protection problems and simply not be able to execute because of penalties.
But Cummings maintains control of the offense.

"He's a manager of a unit and the way we present that is that there are certain jobs that need to be done and he organizes and coordinates assets and liabilities to decide who should do the jobs," Diaco said. "From drawing cards, to writing scripts, to recruiting hand-written letters to marketing campaigns to video productions to running the copier and everywhere in between, and we also don't feel like any one job is more important than the other as it relates to calling the game."
So why was Cummings on the sideline?
"We need those four quarters of coaching," Diaco said. "We don't want to minimize those four quarters of coaching. We want to maximize those 3 ½ hours to get even more coaching done there. That's why I called him out of the [press] box and had him on the sideline."

But Bob - who calls the plays? Next year we'll know for sure

.-.
First off, who says he knows far better than you? He hasn't proved it as a head coach. Second, that's not the bar he has to clear. He needs to know far better than the coaches he is facing, he needs to know far batter than other coaches we could have hired. I hate, hate, hate when fans fall back on "he knows more than me so he must know what he is doing" Neither side of that argument has to be true and in a lot of bad coaching cases neither side IS true.
Did Diaco steal your girlfriend from you at some time in the past?

I question any model that only seems to work for the top recruiting schools in the country. It also looked like the OL which we knew was crap, became serviceable by the end of the year. The big obvious problem was still the game prep and any sort of consistency on offense, partly because of the revolving door of players. I have no idea what the plan is but I hope there is a realistic one that addresses those issues.

The second I heard about Foley, the only thing that came to mind was, "Holy dog-f#$k!" That's all that I could think of. Holy dog-f#$k. Holy f#$king dog-f#$k.

I look forward to finding out which football program picks Foley up 2 weeks from now and improves their offense by 50%. We can't get Todd Orlando. We don't keep Mike Foley. This is why we can't have nice things...

I liked this post cause it made me laugh, but Diaco deserves to do it his way, with all of his guys. Come hell or highwater, its Diaco's ship to steer. I'm going to assume Cummings will be the oline coach, so the question is, where do we add guy?

If this happened last year, I would say, "Well, we knew it was coming with a new coach." But why now? Why after a young offensive line was showing dramatic improvement? Why after they showed that they could clean up the sacks and open up some holes?

The man coached offensive lines that produced four of our most productive running backs of all time. That's how good he was / is, and that's how long he was good for. Does Diaco have the right to do it "his way"? Okay. That's what he's paid the big bucks for. But don't expect me to be very happy when I watch him throw away talent...

We had an open spot for Todd Orlando?

Clearly, we can make an open spot wherever we want, right? I mean, we've got an open spot on the offense right now also... :(

I believe he kept him on to maintain some level of continuity, and to keep a familiar face for the players. I would not be shocked if this wasn't sort of a mutual parting with Coach Foley looking for a place he fits in better. The last two coaches here have wanted him to share oline coach duties. He will probably welcome a fresh start.

C'mon Dan - UConn/Diaco was gonna whack one of the two 1st year DC he hired to poach TO from USU?

Foley did this program well - but he was a two time survivor of coaching changes - It was inevitable to me. Sorry to see him not be a part of the program.

Interested to see who replaces him...

How can we even be sure he was such a great OL coach? Does this make the WR coach a great coach when Marcus Easley went from a Walk on to NFL draft pick? How about the individual that identified him as a worthy walk on,or all those thats deemed him not worthy of a scholarship.
