BYU Post Game Thread

The point is Ross knows his role now. Do you really want to start him for 1 game and then bench him for the Bryant game in 6 days? If you do all the power to you.

But I think that's a pretty dumb move. I know you're a Knicks fan. That's why you saw Mike Brown starting guys further down the rotation because of injuries, so his bench guys could get reps in their roles
Its FOUR games. The idea that his role after 4 games IS HIS ROLE is laughable

Talk about being self absorbed. Do you really believe that anyone on this board is concerned at all as to whether or not you are correct in your opinion of a player?
It’s a tough call. Do i want my favorite team to win games or do i risk someone I don’t know and have never met making a point on a pseudonymous message board?

I am saying that the game was inconsistently called half to half and in the second half the fouls were very lopsided against Connecticut until about eight minutes to go or so.
Because it was

Gonna remember this thread come selection Sunday when we all say this was a key ooc win.

Arguing about the refs in a win is self inflicted misery.

Judging the team or a player after 4 games would make mince meat out of some of our historically best players.

We won; thrilling game of runs, amazing plays, raucous crowd, but complainers gonna complain.

Was going to say this thread could be locked and a new "Ross vs. Stewart - Start or Bench Navel Gazing" thread could be started, but that seems to have tapered off for now.

Bad calls happen. It's idiotic for fans of any team to insist their team is targeted.
Ghee, glad to hear that. And no one gets a good or bad consistent whistle, coach K's team just by luck got lot of favorable calls, that white haired ref doesn't have it in for Hurley and no one cheats in sports (the FBI probe is just pretend). And most of all UConn isn't in a P4 conference because we don't deserve it not that anyone is out to keep us down.

I know I'm paranoid about ref bias but that doesn't mean the refs aren't out to get us.

That’s what I watched but from three different postings. Some longer than others. I usually get my replay from here or the trustworthy overseas source that posts on YouTube. Lol.

Yes, they said you could switch to the Fox Sports App but then the app said game not available. So they had the USC USC game on Fox and FS2
That's a bad job by Fox. They need to switch both. IIRC, ESPN used to get this right.

I think the Mr. Positive takeaway is that we looked really good against a good team when we're hitting on all cylinders. Displaying high-level basketball for a long stretch and holding on gives me more hope for the future than if we just gutted out a rock fight.

Alot of posts about that AJ move last night being a travel, it wasn't, it's a textbook step through

This is the actual rule for anyone interested.

A player is allowed to lift the pivot as long as it doesn’t come back down before the shot is released.

I was at game and this has likely been said before.

The refs made this game almost unwatchable at times. They were doing such a good job but then destroyed the game when we were up by 20 pts. The call came in from upstairs apparently.

2 hr 40 minutes? That’s a football game. And they were most definitely trying to slow down the UConn train and it worked. Some calls they made or didn’t make, were atrocious but at end of day, it is what it is. We did get some good ones at end of game.

BYU kid looks like an NBA Player now who has joined BYU. He may be better than C Flagg.

But BYU never was winning this came after a few minutes in… And would have been nice if announcers had mentioned we were without Mullins at least one. It was BYU this/that missing player etc.

Thank you for posting this....Can't believe there is such an argument over this. Just because it may have looked weird, it definitely wasn't a travel

I will pretty much never complain about a top 10 win, especially when it was a 20 pt lead until they completely took the foot off the gas, but I am a little concerned that Solo's focus on developing his finishing at the rim (which admittedly does seem to be better) may have been at the cost of his 3 point shooting which would be very bad. He needs to be a sniper from out there.

He also still has some not so great handling skills on the drive. He got stripped multiple times for turnovers on momentum changing plays that helped BYU get back in it.

On the other homecoming nobody else talked about:

They talked about it. Below from the Fox telecast. I live in Southborough and Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are not from here. Not sure where Fox came up with that. I got a bunch of texts from people during the game and we had a good laugh about that.

I think seeing Ross play this well and not being open minded to the possibility of him starting given what the board agrees is our current weakness in that group (athletic Castle, Jackson wing defender) is not giving him enough credit.

He's played well and worked hard to fix and overcome the things people wanted him to work on. He deserves a chance to see if he can earn the starting spot for himself while Mullins is out just like Stew had the opportunity to all summer and up until now.

It's a no risk situation. He goes into the starting lineup and either plays well enough to stay there or he doesn't and goes back to his former role. I don't get what the downside is to doing that outside of worst case scenario situations about how rewarding a guy by starting him could lead to affecting their confidence.
I have been one of the biggest Ross backers. But Mullins will and should start. He may not be AJ but he is probably our best freshman besides Castle. And I think he comes in a better offensive player than Castle. Ross will have a big role and you might see him become the first player off the bench as he can play at least two maybe three positions so he is our Swiss Army knife.

Dybsanta Worth every dollar BYU paying him; the kid is a star ( already) . Thought Alex played his best game ever in showing that he can play in the league ; made 3’s , put ball on floor and was competitive on defense. Tonight we saw why they went hard after Silas . Not sure where Mullins minutes coming from ( looking at tonight’s minutes distribution ) . Thought Stewart and Ross did a good job guarding Dybsanta. The type of win that adds to the seed line in march .
Not sure where Mullins minutes are coming from here is a hint look at Stewart, Ross, Ball and Smith just for a clue. You will understand once he comes back. Mullins is not just another freshman he is going to be an assassin combined with Demary.

prefer Silas “Campari” Demary?
Silas "The Midas" Demary.

ˈmaɪdɪs/ Other forms: Midases. Definitions of Midas. noun. (Greek legend) the greedy king of Phrygia who Dionysus gave the power to turn everything he touched into gold.

The Midas touch...

I've never heard of let's start the struggling player over the player that's playing well before.

The mental gymnastics for some on this board to make this make sense is hilarious and a part of the entertainment of Ross playing well. Haha
It’s the belief that some guys are most effective because they bring energy and a spark. Stew is not an energy and spark guy. Rashad was better off the bench than as a starter.
