Tarris, Alex and Silas all get A’s and maybe a B-/C or so for Ross all others yikes. Malachi, who won’t play like this too much if at all, had a real rough time. Stewie played solid defense for the most part but through a couple mind boggling passes. Reibe I would say incomplete, made a nice hole but needs to get rebounds when in. Solo is an enigma right now, we were looking for improvement and for now we can start hoping he at least gets back to last year soon. I like what I see with Ross but he needs to get smarter on defense so he can play more.

Win is a win? Maybe but if you liked the last 10-12 minutes you weren’t watching closely.

Tarris will be sore tomorrow hopefully only a couple days.

Oh yeah one last thing Coach Young whined a ton even when the fouls were 8-3 in the 2nd half then he walked right by Dan with a quick fake shake after the game. Seriously, a nationally televised big game early in the season and you can’t take a minute to talk a bit? Don’t like that guy at all, can’t lose enough for me now!!

Ok maybe last thing, Saunders pushes off opposite arm and elbow about 75% of his drives and that was a charge on AJ. But kudos to AJ he was sensational last 12 minutes, oozes talent and plays hard!

Nice win, great crowd. Second half made it closer than it needed to be. The defense was putrid that half. This team will be built around Demary, Reed and Mullins when they’re whole, with AK complimenting as a glue guy. They will be our three most talented players.

Ross was great off the bench.

Stock up

AK played great
Demary, Ross, Reed

Stock down

Smith was a hot mess, wild and ooc
Stewart may be the one squeezed out of the rotation by end of year, he has looked that bad
Solo is kinda what I thought he might be. If he’s not nailing 3s, hes not bringing a lot. He did make a couple key plays down the stretch. He lost a dribble with no defender on him in the first half.

The minutes distribution was interesting. Not surprised Reed went 33. AK 39. Demary 36. Dan Hurley is gonna ride his horses.

Exactly. By definition they played better without him.
He is not a great offensive post player, and they got a bit more of offense from other guys when they needed it most. Look, one of the reasons for the comeback was UConn's inability to get stops from the under 10 minute mark on. It coincided for the most part with the foul trouble. Guys could not guard effectively because they had 4 fouls. It allowed BYU to drive the lane with impunity. Also, Dybantsa, who is tremendous player, got a lot of calls. The foul out on Ross was a horrible block call--he shouldered Ross to clear space. He got away a few times with push offs from his off arm, so I felt like that mix of him getting calls and UConn in all kinds of foul trouble at the position needed to guard him was critical. I know they made a big deal of 2 BYU players being out, and I get that, but Mullins was not playing tonight, and he would give UConn another scorer and make them deeper at the forward position. Lastly, I suspect Hurley will engrain press break into the players, and you won't see pressing teams give UConn the kind of fits they gave them tonight.

1. A good resume win but I don't feel we won as much as survived.
2. We made a number of important free throws down the stretch by several guys
3. I learned we can easily lose a 20 point lead fast, so now I will have angst all season no matter what our lead is. .
4. I thought Demary did a poor job with the press holding the ball an extra second that allowed himself to get trapped and that led to barely getting over half court in 10 sec and really getting slow into our offense. Smith did no better. Whether it was execution or coaching scheme I thought we did very poor vs pressure.
5. Sad that the difference in the game came down to BYU flubbing their dribble vs us making a winning defensive play. Whew that they got no shot off.
6. Lastly, I didn't realize how important it was to have your shirt tucked in. This was the decorum ref crew.

I think Demary playing the Newton role tonight was so key. He got into the lane a good deal, got to the line a lot, made key basket/wanted the ball in crunch time, and stuffed the stat sheet. He will only get better ala Newton and will be a tremendous player by the end of the regular season.

He got off to a really slow start last year so it's exciting to see him coming out hot in a big game like this

And we were without 1. We were also up 13 when they lost their 2nd starter so that's a lame excuse
No it’s not lame. Who cares that we were up 13 when that starter went down? We only won by 2 points as they came back at the end. So when someone says we’re pretty good, how is that when we blow a big lead and they’re missing 2 starters? We are a decent team, not a great team at this point.
