BYU Post Game Thread

It wasn't just him. Saunders and Baker used the same left stiff arm on their drives. Silas is a smart player, because he picked-up on it and began doing the same and the Refs continued to swallow the whistle on that move...
The refs called some fouls that I thought were play on. But especially in the second half they let the BYU players extend their off arm to create contact and space, some that were clearly fouls.

With that said, Dybantsa is impressive. Long, athletic, great body control & handle, and a deadly shot-maker when he gets hot. He's always reminded me of Gianni but with a better 3 Pt shot. He traverses a lot of distance with those long strides and pivots, and is a pretty good finisher once he gets rolling.

IMO, if BYU had surrounded him with a tad more talent, they'd be a legit NC threat. I think they just don't have enough horses. There will be a lot of games where he carries them to victory that they wouldn't have had any shot at winning, which almost happened tonight.

I didn’t mind Stewies game tonight. We 3 guys in the starting lineup score 21+ we didn’t need him to score. The shots weren’t there for him. He locked up Dybantsa for about 25 minutes of game time. That had a lot to do with us winning the game

BYU decided to pressure us in the backcourt and knew we suck at inbounding also. It disrupted us on offense as well. Sure BYU got away with elbow push offs on their drives but they heated up as we went cold. Stew threw the ball away twice in our half court offense which hurt. Smith stepping OOB before catching a pass. We got flustered on offense looked like the main issue to me. Thank Silas for making the big free throws late.

Dybansta at the top of the 1-2-2 was a problem.

No it’s not lame. Who cares that we were up 13 when that starter went down? We only won by 2 points as they came back at the end. So when someone says we’re pretty good, how is that when we blow a big lead and they’re missing 2 starters? We are a decent team, not a great team at this point.
Yes, it is lame. The starter we're missing is better than both the starters BYU lost

The “missing 2 starters” argument is more of a testament to how good BYU is. Listen, I’m one to biotch and moan on here but we just beat a top 10 team on a neutral court. I don’t think BYU finishes worse than 3rd in the Big 12. It’s a good win. Move on because Wednesday is another massive test.

The missing starter excuse only works for our opponents

Good.win, but lots more work to so before Weds.

Decent offensive game by Ross... His fouling is an issue albeit, the 5th foul was total BS.

Not sure why Raferty was confused that UConn's offense looked stagnant in the 2nd half.

1. BYU shot an extremely high % so there were no breaks off defensive rebounds.
2. Lots of fouls gummed up the game. It lasted almost 3 hrs.
3. BYU's press was effective, mainly because UConn handled it poorly, but it left little time for UConn's sets.
4. UConn got cocky when the lead extended to 20, a letdown
Talked to Raferty at the break and not sure he is 100% there.

Too late into this 9 page thread, but I would say: probably the most unsatisfying win against a top 7 team on a neutral court I can remember.

Giving up a mid second quarter double digit lead to squeak it out at the end. Uhg. We have to get better.

There is no such thing as an unsatisfying top 7 win. What are we doing here?

I dont think we would of been in that situation if Solo was himself. Would have extended the lead more. So without a good Solo, and no Mullins for additional firepower, our offense bogged down in the 2nd when we slowed it down.

You were OK with the last 10 minutes?
Nobody was but we are still gelling as a team and only 4th game of the year and with a key starter out in Mullins. Give it time and see were we are in January. It will be remembered a quality neutral win against a top team that will make the tournament. It is good we dealt with some adversary in this game but still won as we will hopefully better after this game. We need to feed the beast better for sure.

I'm glad Massachusetts General Hospital is close to TD Garden. Because those last 10 minutes were heart attack city!

Yeah the stalling drives me nuts. Not sure if Hurley tells them to do that or whether they succumb to the pressure.

Reed could have had 30+ points tonight easily but I don't think most of the players do a good job getting the ball to him in the post. I hated when he got the ball 15 feet from the basket and tried to get himself into post position by dribbling. I don't think that's a good idea. They need to practice passing into the post.

The first half defense was great. Someone want to tell me why it stunk in the second half? Obviously Dybantsa is a matchup nightmare. But Saunders was getting to the hoop way too easily.

Great win for tournament seeding. Nobody is going to care in March that Davis didn't play and Keita got hurt early. Keita kind of stinks any way so not sure he would have made any difference.

Were you okay with the first 30?

And your question is irrelevant to if I’m happy about beating a legitimate top 7 team on a neutral site without our MCDAA starting lottery pick. Yes I’m satisfied. Lmfao
absolutely happy with the first 30 - not happy with the end. We easily could have lost with 4 minutes left. We never should have been in that situation.

We have the two stalwarts: Demery & Reed.
We have the mojo man: Karaban
We have unbelievable defensive wings.

Ross had his best game by a country mile and is starting to look consistent.

Overall, such a gritty win. It’s tough to hold a 20 pt lead against a top 5-10 team, and with their first test, they survived. The slowed pace hurt us, but not having Ball playing well and using Malachi a lot IMO is the reason the pace slowed for so long.

Dybantsa is going to make hundreds of millions of dollars. He is in a completely different galaxy from anyone else on the floor. Can I bet futures on the 2030 MVP? Like buttah.
I agree with everything except "He (Dybantsa) is in a completely different galaxy from anyone else on the floor." There is some great players at the collegiate level, including some of our guys who are in the same galaxy, not to take anything away from Dybantsa.

Dybsanta Worth every dollar BYU paying him; the kid is a star ( already) . Thought Alex played his best game ever in showing that he can play in the league ; made 3’s , put ball on floor and was competitive on defense. Tonight we saw why they went hard after Silas . Not sure where Mullins minutes coming from ( looking at tonight’s minutes distribution ) . Thought Stewart and Ross did a good job guarding Dybsanta. The type of win that adds to the seed line in march .

absolutely happy with the first 30 - not happy with the end. We easily could have lost with 4 minutes left.
So you don’t like wins against good teams we could’ve lost? That’s a miserable way to watch games given that most games against top 7 teams are going to be close hard fought victories. Every UConn team can’t be 23,24 UConn.

Im guessing you weren’t satisfied with 99 because we only won by 3 and could’ve easily lost in the last 4 minutes?
