What world do you live in? Have you ever been on a public road before? I assure you that plenty of perfectly sober people hit plenty of signs, trees, poles and even buildings.
And these people run from the scene?

Nope. I have only hit signs when wickedly buzzed. But never since age 20.

Bottom line: Why did the kid run? Because he was scared for not having a license? That would be the least of his problems. Clearly he was mentally altered. No one hits a street sign when sober. No one.
What?

Back in the day a cop who I knew knocked on my front door to inform me that " there are 2 less stop signs in Cape Coral thanks to Mr Jordin's incredibly bad driving"Jordin being my son and 18 at the time and no alcoholic beverages or drugs involved. I had to pay for the stop signs. Stuff happens with kids and it doesn't automatically make them bad kids... they're kids.

I think it’s out of the police’s hands. Prosecutor would have to do that now. If convicted he’s looking at a fine and a 90 day license privilege suspension. It’s pretty minor as far as traffic violations go, though. He’ll be ok through the legal system as far as criminal penalties, it’ll just be civil issues if he hit someone and they sue him. A team suspension might be the worst thing that happens to him- all things considered.
It's only misdemeanors, although the charge of interfering with a police officer is not good.

i completely agree, but he could’ve been distracted such as texting
Txting is so common. Following a car today that was weaving like a drunk, and it’s all kids do.

Take a look at all the thumbs ups you got for this post. They're all users!

I know kids who have done that and similar while sober. Some people suck at driving.

Sue Bird totaled one of Geno's cars once many years ago. Don't remember exactly what the fine was or if she was arrested.

Driving is not the only thing people should avoid when mentally altered!

He ran from police .I have a background in law enforcement and trust me the police frown on a suspect who runs. It escalates the situation and makes their job much more difficult . Traffic stops are dangerous and stressful under normal circumstances .
In my opinion ,running from the police is very serious and there needs to be consequences .

I agree! If he was caught by the donut eaters, he hasn't been running enough. He needs more hill work.

Coached for 35 years. Sadly there has to be repercussions or you lose the team. None of us knows the circumstances. Maybe everybody will grow from it. Next man up. This should be a good enough team to get thru it.

I thought we were starting a new chapter? Please let this be over and a special season start soon

Uh...

Hit an ice patch. Choices were telephone pole, tree or street sign.

This is speculation without any facts or evidence and is grossly unfair. He has no license. Lots of kids can‘t functionally drive in this era. Add to that the prevalence of texting, hell I watching people staring at the phone at 75MPH in heavy traffic. So no, there is no basis to claim anything about his state of mind.

Unfortunately he didn't know that. Unfortunately he thought he couldn't be identified. Unfortunately he's like most kids his age. He'll either learn from it or not.

The big thing is he could have been hurt badly and was fortunate it didn't happen. A woman in our neighborhood just passed after 40 years of being paralyzed from the neck down and only semi conscious. She was in her early twenties when it happened. Her driver friend walked out of the car without a scratch. Her mom and brothers provided her with the best care available. But that's a real hit show compared to this small bit of drama.
LOL, reminds me of the story of Marvin Barnes robbing a bus driver in Providence his senior year of HS wearing his letterman jacket from Central HS with his name stitched on the front.

This is nothing more than kids being kids in their freshmen year in college. It’s stupid yes but it’s not assault or illegal substance related. Maybe it will scare him a bit to be smarter.

That street he was speeding on is a curve and a densely developed area. I do not belive he was texting at the time. The area would not allow it. He ran away. He was avoiding a bad outcome. And to show remorse 14 days later? Sure, I believe he remorseful. He's a good kid. But three weeks went by before he turned himself in per the Courant story.

Anyway, Hurley is about to turn the page. And onward we mush.

You sound like a crazy person.

Hurley is the quintessential players coach. His guys get a very long leash off the court. That was his calling card @ URI. Maybe it will change...maybe it won't. The risk factor is always there. There is a good chance after not killing someone that Bouk & Hurley will form an even closer bond.

Evidence? Not saying you're wrong, just never heard this before. If anything, my inclination is to believe the opposite. Hurley is tough on these guys from what I've seen.

Being a players coach doesn't mean you let them get away with anything and everything. It means you hold them accountable, but are still there for them as a leader and role model to support their growth as people AND ballers.
