Bill Belichick’s UNC Debut

I’m not a football guy, but it seems to me that it would be the sport where coaching has the biggest relative impact on success. That being said, the players do the winning and losing at the end of the day.
It matters, but even the best coaches can't win without a QB. It's arguable. The coaches don't make the plays, don't make quick decisions on the field. The QB is likely the single most impactful position across all of team sports, and likely not close. I'd argue in the NFL coaches are much more expendable than a great QB, and there are far fewer great QB's than great/solid coaches. Andy Reid was 1-4 in playoffs with Alex Smith.

Take a look at Manning as another example. He, like Brady, was an on field coach once seasoned. He went right to Denver and won another SB with Gary Kubiak. Brady won a SB with Bruce Arians. These coaches did jack squat before Manning & Brady.

Watching that game last night, I thought that your team getting an ass whipping in that first game, even having a tough first year, is part of the process in establishing a winning program. I remember Jim Calhoun's first year at Old Lyme.

Beli is old, on a 3 year contract and is on limited time. Doubt he's thinking we need to take ten steps back before we make one stride forward at this stage of life. You don't really have the luxury of losing games in college as only so many opportunities to solidify a solid season, so an OOC home game is pretty important. Especially when the event is a spectacle full of excited celebrity alum. It's the portal era too. It's one thing if they lost playing well. They barely showed up & were curb stomped by an unranked team.

It will take some time, but losing by 30+ as 3.5 point underdogs is about a bad a start as you could come up with
His GF ain't gonna sell much UNC merch at this rate!

UNC hiring Belichick reminds me of when the White Sox hired Tony LaRussa. Except it seems UNC won't be able to enjoy being good for a year like the ChiSox did in TLR's first season.

Nah, Bill gave him the edge. Without someone to catch or run with the ball, and an O line to get it done, Brady would be just a better looking, more likable Dan Marino.
It is totally possible/ probable.that thr O line and.other pieces do the most to make a QB into a winner.

Example: Doug Williams.

Redskins superbowl.winning QB. Joe Gibbs waived him in the office season. And absolutely no other team in the NFL picked him up.

harder to justify in the portal era, plus Mack Brown didn't exactly leave the program in the gutter. They were on a treadmill and needed more juice in his 2nd act, but they weren't putrid.

Yes he’s 73, but he’s figured out a way to climb into bed every night with a good looking woman who is 24. Some would call that dementia, others would call it genius.
Their individual versions of kookoo are compatible

The legend grows.

If I wasn’t happily married, and I had a 24 year old girlfriend like that, I would take her everywhere, and parade her around as much as I could. Football game sideline, movies, Stop & Shop, Home Depot, TJ Maxx, the town dump…..everywhere.

The thread is about Bill. There's no need to drag his girlfriend through the mud.

Agree actually as I joke and poke fun and just think if it’s your own 24 year old daughter how most parents would feel.
Boy do we have 100% diff philosophies on this one. If you decide to pursue and crave the public eye, all is fair game. She’s an adult.

It's just funny to see teams spend millions and millions on coaches, staff members and NIL only to fall flat on their face. Money is good but it's no short cut to building a culture, our basketball programs culture speaks for itself obviously but we're also seeing it with Jim Mora.

I know you gotta give Belichick more time but he's in his 70s, how do you pick Bob Diaco and Freddie Kitchens on your staff, two loser coaches.

And if you were 73, you'd look like a super creep. Like he does.

Whats the Age difference where you dont look like a super creep between consenting adults? Just wondering. Is there a table we can refer to or something?

There is a universal man law for this, with the ability to round down. It's half your age plus 7. In Beli's case, his floor would have been 29 (73/2 = 36.5 - 7 = 29). He's officially creepworthy.

I thought it was half your age plus 7? So 73/2 = 36.5 + 7 = 43.5. So 43. She's almost 20 years younger than that. I couldn't care less though.
