These home courts early offer a lot of points. Purdue beats Bama by a good margin, Marquette pumps Purdue. Marquette 20 points better than Bama?

I know people love Braden Smith but boy is he small. Throw him and Loyer against any big athletic guards, can they win?

Great win - needed it. Marquette guards looked fast and physical. Seems to be their thing every year coming out early. Let’s see if they can maintain it through March.

Does this win result in a clean rating swap? Having watched that game, Marquette was clearly the better team.

The Big East teams have been playing against the best in college basketball for two years. This has to have lifted all boats in our league.

Purdue was outmatched the entire game. Marquette ran them off the 3pt line and their interior defense (albeit giving up a few easy layups here and there) did a great job crashing. Even when they overexaggerated their help at times, they dared Purdue to make open 3s at a high clip.

Kam Jones is REALLY good, but other than maybe 1 (MAYBE 2) other players, the Marquette shooting was BAD (ex. Joplin). That being said, I can easily see those role players who were back rimming/air balling 3s turning around and going 50% behind the arc when we visit them lol

Marquette was pretty dominant the whole game. Purdue's shots always seemed to be contested and Marquette's were open, and Marquette's lead would have been in the teens halfway through the first half if they had not missed so many layups.

If Jones gets in foul trouble it only compounds the problem that Marquette has no bench.
70 of their 76 points from the starters along 165 of their 200 minutes.

Lowery gets 14.8 minutes per game
Parham gets 13.6 minutes per game

Damarius Owens missed preseason and the first couple games with injury. He's the 56th rated recruit on rivals and word is he's very good. He's going to play and contribute for sure.

Sean Jones is going to come back soon enough from his ACL and get 20 minutes per game.

Purdue was Edey and the Edey whistle (or lack thereof) Without him they are so far below where they were projected.

Marquette out athletic-ed Purdue last night, but Marquette is not a great 3 point shooting team and that will cost them at some point. They are shooting 30.5% from deep through last night. It may be time for Joplin to get a yellow light on some of his shot attempts. He has taken more 3 attempts than anyone else on the team and is only shooting 20.% from downtown.

UConn, Marquette, Villanova, Providence, and DePaul all win.

41-7 (4-2)

vs ACC: 2-2
vs Big 10: 2-0

Bad losses: Villanova 2x, Seton Hall 2x, and Butler.

There are so few major conference upsets this season in a large part because the major conference teams are playing the lowest of the low majors. Look at how many Southland and America Sun games the SEC is playing. The SEC is fattening its record on teams that are barely D1. I think a lot of leagues are now pursuing a "Big 12" style scheduling strategy of scheduling almost all cupcakes except for a few major conference teams, pummeling the cupcakes, and hope that they do well enough against the other major conference opponents to have a good computer ranking.

Seton Hall rolled the dice with mid-majors like Hofstra and Fordham and it blew up on them. It was a play on the computer rankings that didn't work out. They are doing it again with VCU on Thursday night.

Butler losing to Austin Peay was a bad loss. Villanova has a terrible coach that they should have fired at least a year ago, if not sooner.

We don't know how good or bad any league is until all the teams start playing some better competition.

Maryland @ Villanova on Sunday. Whoever loses this game DEFINITELY is not a tourney team, that's for sure. And even the winner may not be one either.

“Playoffs? Did you say Playoffs?” Hey 1-0 since Nova announced they actually had an AD. Look out!!
He was a great hire. Comes from Oregon, is a Villanova alum, and oversaw men's basketball at Oregon. He will get rid of Neptune (probably at the end of the season) and I except him to make a solid hire to replace him. Nova has $$$ to spend.

I understand they provide minutes but my not so well made point was their bench players are a big drop off from their starters, especially Kam Jones.

Didn’t Purdue beat Alabama??
yes they did - you are correct
The game was at Purdue's home court which is a tough place to play no matter the match-up
My comment should have been that a good running team will beat B10 teams more than lose on neutral or opposing courts.

You can say that about every team in the country. We probably have the best bench in the country but it's still going to be a drop off from our starters and whoever is filling in for Karaban is going to be a big drop off from him.

Kam Jones is one of the best players in the country, of course there's going to be a big drop off when he goes to the bench.

If you're saying their bench isn't nearly as talented as UConn's I agree with you.

WTF - Georgetown up 77-51 with the shot clock off, 23 seconds left, and they go full on to score instead of dribbling it out. That's just bush league stuff.

They look terrible. And played in front of about 200 fans. What a disaster they have become.
