Creighton/UNLV is why you don't pick teams to go 18-2 in conference. There are a lot of good players out there, and players are sticking around in college a lot longer because they are getting paid. 10 years ago, Kalib Boone might have been in Turkey or someplace earning a living, but he can make more at UNLV so he is playing in Vegas at 22 or 23. Even the players that are a step down stick around now because even $20 or $30 grand a year plus getting a degree is better than whatever else they were going to do. A bad Chicago State team took down Northwestern last night, and Arkansas State cruised over Louisville. I suspect that both those low majors are both old teams too.
Teams that are still going all in on big high school recruiting classes are just stupid (looking at Calipari). College basketball is becoming a men's game, not a boy's game.
Beating Creighton doesn't mean UNLV is a great team or that Creighton is terrible, it just means that a veteran UNLV is good enough that they can put a game together to beat Creighton on a given night. That is why they play the games.
