Big East January '26 Thread - Take Two

Seton Hall went up 15 and then responded with one of the worst 10 minute stretches of basketball I've ever seen. Can't make layups, can't make FTs, can't grab defensive rebounds, multiple careless turnovers, and non-stop hacking on defense to put St Johns in the bonus early.
Good call.

St. Johns is not a Final Four contender, but it is still a good team. SHU didn't have the offense to close this out today, but SJU also played pretty well. Give some credit.

Butler just looks mediocre even though their tournament resume is not terrible.

I was not impressed with Seton Hall or St John’s tonight. We are so may light years better than either of those teams. I am excited to see how we matchup against Nova. A real convincing effort and this conference is already over.

I watched a little of the second half. St Johns destroyed them on the offensive glass. The Johnnies had possessions where they had four or five shots. Seton Hall was pathetic on the boards. The box score say they had 20 offensive rebounds but by what I saw that is low.

interrupt this program with some not necessarily key info. I saw it on some other message boards

Ok: do we think Seton Hall makes the tourney or not?

There is a 2024 vibe developing, where every semi-bubble team in the Big East seems to be losing conference games in the wrong combination to cost the Big East a big or two. Last year it worked the other direction, where the conference probably got one more bid than it deserved based on conference strength.

Seton Hall looks like a tournament team, but it has to stop its slide. It would be a good time for SHU to rip off a 3 game winning streak.

Butler does not look like a tournament team, but it has the third or fourth best OOC resume in the Big East.

McDermott is coaching the hell out of a bad Creighton team that does not deserve a bid.

Those three better hold serve against Xavier, Depaul, Georgetown, Marquette and Providence if they want a bid. Providence is the biggest problem among that group.

As I always say at this time of year, all the other bubble teams are going to pick up bad losses, or they wouldn't be bubble teams. Also, every league has a program that blew it in the non-conference but can play up on a given night. We have Providence, but the Big 10 has Rutgers, which almost picked off Iowa last night. Ole Miss can beat all but the Top 4 teams in the SEC. Virginia Tech is kind of salty in the ACC. TCU and Cincinnati in the Big 12.
