Big East February '26 Thread

I want Creighton to beat St. John's, but I am certainly not expecting it. Ever since Rick Pitino coached St. John's Creighton has struggled with them. Even with their better teams in 2024 and 2025 they escaped with 1 pt wins in Omaha where St. John's had the ball last with a chance to win and St. John's has beaten them handily in MSG. St. John's is a bad match up for Creighton. I hope my post ages badly.

St. John’s is allowed to just clobber Creighton without getting called for fouls. Pitino has created a relationship with the officials in which his team can mug all game long but you can’t breathe on them.

I don’t know how anyone can watch this creighton St. John’s game right now and just not be appalled at how good we made creighton look. Speaks to our lack of physicality
While I think our players are more skilled, SJU's players are clearly quicker and have more length. Plus they push the ball up the court much more than we do; taking advantage of their better athletes.

I didn't know it was possible to be entertained, which is why I watch these games, and have my blood boiling at the same time. This game shows how soft this UConn team is with the exception of Silas and Tarris.

I'm really concerned about these last 4 regular season games. With the way we're playing lately we could lose all 4. I would be shocked if that happens but we need to see the turnaround in play starting today against Nova. St. John's is a horrible matchup for us. Seton Hall will be playing for their tournament lives and Marquette is playing much better later in the season despite their record.

Today's game is massive for us.

Part of the physicality issue is that we get fouls called on us so much more often than other teams. St. John’s is allow to mug and maul teams in a way nobody else in the big east is allowed to.

Also figured that creighton shot their wade against us anyway no way they were having two games in a row like that.

Wow. Johnnies blowing out Creighton on Johnnies Day. What a time to be alive.

Never thought Johnnies would be commanding the Big East like this again. The power of coaching!

Fouls aside (Creighton having 2 guys w/3 fouls while SJU has none?), I'm both impressed and depressed with SJU's ball movement. On one hand, they seem more disciplined on running their stuff than they did last year. OTOH, how in hell could we not run our stuff at will against Creighton last game? Their D looks awful.

Everyone should remember that the Huskies beat Creighton by 27 only 3 weeks ago. So something happened between then and this past Wednesday. I'm not sure everyone got soft between then and now.

Not sure why anyone needed to see St Johns stomp Creighton out as proof it was a bad loss and Creighton isn't that good, UConn just beat them by damn near 30 a few weeks ago. That's all you need to know about how poorly UConn played this past Wednesday and how they've been playing these past couple of weeks.

Creighton's D is awful. UConn got good looks from the 11 min mark to the 3 min mark in the 2nd half but just went cold with certain players reluctant to shoot. But it's the defense that has me concerned. I don't think Creighton's offense just went cold-St John's defense is clearly making them uncomfortable in a way that UConn could not.

Our Quad 1 win at Creighton will now be a Quad 2 & the loss to Creighton is now Quad 3....zero chance Creighton gets near top 75 in NET again.

For what it’s worth, this shouldn’t be surprising to anyone

Teams like St John’s should absolutely demolish teams like Creighton. Teams like UConn should absolutely demolish them too.

Creighton did not turn a corner or find a secret formula on Wednesday. They are a bad team, and we allowed them to dictate everything and beat us on our home court anyway. The game right now is what is supposed to happen, not the outlier

We scored 84 points, our offense is fine. The question you should be asking is what the hell happened to our defense? We gave up 91 points to a Creighton team that has 38 points today with 8 minutes left in the game.

It's all good we can lose these 4 games just forfeit and win when it counts.

our defense needs to get back to average at least. It’s has been bad the past couple of weeks.

When every team we play knows all you have to do is drive it to the basket and you will get there pretty damn easily and you will either score or be able to kick to wide open shooters you are gonna struggle.

Big day for you.

I still don’t understand how a 27 point win on the road over a .500 team translates to a 7 point home loss 3 weeks later

You don’t understand how two games between college teams can have radically different results? Happens every season

St. John's is legit, better than they were last season and a completely different team than they were early in the season. Hopkins looks great now, Dillon Mitchell gives them awesome athleticism and versatility and Dylan Darling is huge in their transformation.

I honestly don't see how we beat them now with the way we matchup with them.
