I will agree with one thing. It is absolutely a product of how this league has chosen to officiate games. A game between the two programs that most take advantage of how physical of play the league allows is bound to get very chippy and at that point you’re playing with fire. For about 50 reasons, the league really needs to get the officiating in line with modern basketball.

Looked like Big East basketball to me. Certainly on the dangerous and violent side -- but grabbing a guy and holding him so that it is difficult for him to move isn't exactly standard basketball either and that is every UConn possession in the half court.

Well that’s not what you said at all. You said people were claiming this showed a conspiracy agains UConn or St. John’s or something. It was kind of hard to follow so I apologize if I didn’t get it 100%.

And I'm hesitant to defend the cheap shot without knowing exactly what went down last year between Hopkins and the program, but there is a version of this where him getting hit in the mouth was somewhat warranted. I think Pitino knows it, too.

Radio broadcast spared no details: the general feeling is Hopkins could have played for Providence but knew he would transfer so rehabbed on Providence's dime, then went to a higher paying NIL system. This was openly talked about like common knowledge.

You kill me because you always change the narrative or the goalposts to what anyone is disputing/complaining about in your posts. Are you O.K.? You might want to speak to your family about seeing a doctor. There's either something seriously wrong with you or you're just really strange. Could be both though.

Maybe Big East basketball in the early 80's days but that didn't look anything like current Big East basketball. The Providence players were out to hurt the St. John's players. Powell grabbing Hopkins head and pulling it back when he was in the air was ridiculous as was Jamier Jones shoving Zuby when he was in the air.

Powell got a 1 game suspension from the NCAA and an additional 2 games from the Big East.

I was going to ask the same thing. I just did a few minutes of a Google search "Bryce Hopkins suspension" and all I am seeing, at least at the top and middle of the search, is that Duncan Powell is suspended for 3 games.

In no way am I in support of Powell, especially given the post-foul antics he pulled.

But everyone is circulating this photo frame to show how "intentionally dirty" the foul was.

If you actually watch the frame-by-frame:

-Hopkins is driving left side but moving towards center/right of the hoop
-Powell comes over from the right
-Powell actually goes for the ball first and gets the ball first, he blocks downwards on the ball
-Hopkins left-to-right momentum and Powell's right-to-left momentum helps make the hand/arm to face contact more substantial

Again, it was a hard/excessive/some overaggressive/likely dirty intention foul...but there was at least an obvious attempt to go after the ball/block first. And the one frame distorts all of the happenings of the actual play.

I can get past the hard foul from Powell. Lets say he was just playing tough. okay fine...

What bothers me more is his antics for the next 20 minutes after the foul. There shouldn't be a place for that kind of behavior in College ball.

For the record - I have consistently been one of the few here that has given Providence College and its fan base the benefit of the doubt in the past. I've always said the rowdy fan-base is a good rivalry for the league. They are a passionate bunch...

But boy... Powell and the fans messed up two days ago. To stick around in the bench, to be smiling and revving up the crowd the whole time. For your coach not to do anything about it... for your fans to start F-U chants. For Powell to hype up the crowd on the way out.

What an embarrassment to everyone involved with that school. yikes

There are at least 4 posts in this thread blaming the Big East for Powell clotheslining Hopkins. But you knew that.

The gaslighting bit you are doing is really lame.

Nova been on the ropes vs these mid to bottom tier BE teams alot but have managed to escape with Ws, in another tight one with Xavier

Didn't know that Carroll was an FAU transfer, Dusty May got a great eye for talent evaluation . LJ Cason has turned into a pretty good role player for Mich and he was originally committed to FAU before May took the Mich job.

Gosh I just saw another good FAU player the other day - who was it? He really does. He pulled a S16 team together in year one, and then this behemoth.

Good coaching ALL starts with good recruiting and talented balanced rosters. He got Mara to come based on how he used his bigs last year. You can expect him to attract the best bigs in the portal annually. He’s going to turn Mara and Johnson into draft picks in one year.

Didn't realize that either, that FAU Final Four team had Carroll and Brenen Lorient as freshmen getting small minutes. Lorient is at WVU starting and having a good season for a likely NCAA tournament team
