Thinking about trying Ozzy's this weekend. Any comments?
I like Ozzy's, it's very good thin crust pizza, but not exactly New Haven style, more classic thin crust to me

This is tangential but related, I think. When I was 15, I got a summer job as a counselor at High Meadow Day Camp in Granby, even though I was technically too young for paid work. The lead counselor for my cabin was Joe Reilly, who I later learned coached at South Catholic.I'm sure you do. He played basketball at South Catholic and graduated there in 1983.
Joe’s brother Gene, who coached at South Catholic and Portland, was even tougher but both were good men. Gene was very good baseball and basketball player for Central, too. This is tangential but related, I think. The founder of the camp was Paul Francis, who was a respected CT basketball referee who I only ever called "Frosty." He was also the Athletic Director at then Kingswood School (now Kingswood Oxford).
Joe Reilly was the first archetypal good-hearted tough guy I ever met.
Great. Delete the thread now.
its still safeOne of my good friends in college grew up a few doors down from there on Maple Avenue. It was across the street from a park, just south of the intersection of South Street and Maple Avenue. Wasn't the greatest area but it was generally safe back then. Haven't been over there in 40 years so no idea what it's like now.
I had a what I thought was a great pie from Manchester Pepe's not too long ago. I guess I'm not alone.
Are you talking about Manchester Pepe's on West Middle Turnpike or Frank Pepe on Buckland Hills in Manchester?I had a what I thought was a great pie from Manchester Pepe's not too long ago. I guess I'm not alone.
Was Mike Thomas on those teams? I remember him as a quick guard from Enfield. I was out of South by then but I attended a good game at St Thomas Aquinas in a full gym around that time. One of the Farrell brothers may have played on that Aquinas team. I believe five or so played for Aquinas.
I also graduated from an HCC member in that time frame. South Catholic and St. Thomas Aquinas closed of course and some others almost closed. Back then some of the private schools were considered much better than the public schools but today the public schools are much better funded than in the past. Xavier and East Catholic were always very strong in athletics.Yes. Smooth shooting lefty.
Doug McCrory actually went to Holy Cross and was one of the players that accused George Blaney of being racist. He then transferred to university of Hartford.

I'm not sure any of the schools had good pizza back in the day. Kids today have it much better though so perhaps they've raised the pizza bar some, so to speak. I only made it to the Hartford Italian Fest once unfortunately. found this via the google
