OT: Best Pizza in CT

Well, except for the thinness and the lack of cheese. All I'm saying is they hate Domino's up here because it's not substantial
Yeah, definitely not Dominos. I'd refer to it as goopy and gloppy. Definitely cheese first and bready. Hard to eat a slice by hand without losing some until it cools and congeals.

My friend wanted to do a blind CT Pizza contest for his 30th. We had 11 cheese pies from our favorites spots (mostly Central CT) and voted on best crust, best cheese and sauce, and best overall.

Of the top of my head we had Modern (my contribution), Mondo’s, Illianos, Little Rendevous, Michael Angelos, Luna’s, a couple Greek pies, and a couple from places I don’t remember.

Michael Angelos won best overall and best cheese and sauce which shocked a bunch of us. Modern was second. Fun experiment!
Is that michael angelos on route 34? If so one of my favorites

@CTBasketball started this glorious thread and then a mod merged it with a similar thread on the women’s board and usurped all his due glory.

I for one would like to petition for the reinstatement of CT as the rightful lord of the pizza thread.

It’s only right .

I should have been slapped for starting and OT thread mid-season (Jan 5, 2013), but it was a day or so removed from UConn losing to Marquette on the road because the officials had the teams go the wrong way off the tip in OT and erased UConn’s 2-0 lead, in a pointless season might I add.

I needed pizza more than it needed me.

If that's how it started I'm surprised this isn't a vodka thread.

Back in those days a young CTBasketball was probably drinking Sailor Jerry, Hams, or Rolling Rock.

People in college looked at me crazy for drinking Rolling Rock but they knew nothing about mojo.
A young KryHavok drank Piels, which really sucked (but wasn't as bad as whatever that p!$$water bars around SCSU served), and he never found issue drinking Rolling Rock that went down much easier.

served Hulls Pilsner at the Keg House in mid 70s

Portnoy has a thing against sprinkle cheese on pizza in general
It really is amazing the influence he has on pizza sales when he's a culinary moron. He constantly calls basil "oregano" and margherita pizza "napolitano". His only comment on sauce is whether is has "tang" or not. But good on him, he's created an empire.

And he gets the pizza steaming in a box before he judges it, which is the worst thing you could possibly do.

It is crazy how much influence he has but I generally agree with him on how good a pizza a place makes. He's turned us on to a few pizza places over the years (my son follows him, not me) that I would have never known about. And he's not a culinary expert so nobody should take his comments like that. He's not a food critic judging French cuisine. He's telling us how he liked a pizza. Nothing more.
