Anyone ever been to Est Est Est in New Haven? They've been there for as long as I can remember and I must have passed it literally hundreds of times, but never set foot inside. We hired their pizza truck for my daughter's graduation party and it was excellent--totally legit wood-fired, brick oven New Haven pizza. Huge hit. Will definitely be stopping in to the place to see if the pizza there is as good as their truck.

Consistently solid pizza ... been there since early 70's w/ a heavy Yale crowd obviously. Parking can be tough but I've never had bad food there - eggplant parm grinder is a winner as well.

Yeah in my mind I had it pegged as a place for under-aged Yalies to get served. Good to know it has been consistently solid for food. Funny, they proudly boast about being a "top ten" New Haven pizza restaurant, which underscores the point that the tenth best New Haven pizza is still better than 99% of the pizza on the planet.

Also good to know about the eggplant, and consistent with the fact that the surprise winner of the night for me and several others with their eggplant, sausage and red pepper pie. I'm pretty particular about eggplant--hate it when it's mushy--but when it's done well it is among my favorite pizza toppings. Eggplant, artichoke and light mozz on a red pie is probably my most frequent Modern pie, so I will try the same at Est.

8893, It's good insurance.

That way if Modern is closed for the night, Sally's goes out of business, Pepe's is too crowded and BAR is shut down, you'll still have a place to pick up a pie in New Haven! Being prepared.

Pepe's clam pizza is one of the best pizzas I have ever had. I wonder how many of you are even a little Italian.

I love Pepe's white clam pizza, but the one I had last Friday was extremely dry, and for $29 a little disappointing. I will just view it as an off day and hope that the next one is as great as I have come to expect there.

>>If I had to make a top 10 list of all the pizza I ate, it would be the following: 1. Di Fara 2. Sally’s Apizza 3. Lucali 4. Frank Pepe Pizzeria 5. John’s of Bleeker St. 6. Paulie Gee’s 7. Emily 8. Prince St. Pizza 9. Modern Apizza 10. Lombardi’s Coal Oven Pizza.<<

>>I also realize there are plenty of other great pizza places out there in New York and New Haven I have not had and fully reviewed in my Instagram (Zuppardi’s, Gramaldi’s, Robertas, L&B Spumoni Gardens, Totonno’s, Joe and Pat’s to name a few)...<<

Last week in New Haven we went to Sally's and it was excellent, and I finally got to Zuppardi's in-season for the fresh-shucked clam pizza. One of the best pizzas I've ever had. Certainly better than Pepe's version. And I'm a Pepe's fan.

Was it burnt? I'm not one of those that likes their burned crust.

I finally tried the hot oil pizza at Colony Grill in Fairfield. Really an odd/unique pizza. Super thin, really tasty and good heat/spice. Not at all a traditional pie in many regards, but I can see the following for it, for sure.

Never liked how they skimp on the sausages too. They slice it thin, I mean at Zuppardis and Modern it's big chunks like it should be.

Try it with stingers next time!

So, I remembered that some folks in this thread were saying that Cumberland Farms pizza was "a pretty decent pie" and last week, I was on the road and pulled off for gas. Went in and saw the pizza and grabbed a slice just to see if it might change my mind.

Nope. It was garbage. I was right then, I'm still right now and anyone who likes that dreck is 1000% wrong.

While not a contender for best in CT, LaSalle Market in Collinsville puts out some very tasty specialty slices. Great stuff in an old time market setting.

Just in case anyone were interested. The Former Victoria's (which was the Former 7 Seas), across from the Groton sub base, is now J&J's Pizza Grill. I've been working down here a little over 5 years and this is the 3rd owner and/or name. The Pizza from Victoria's was very similar to 7 Seas. I haven't been to the current incarnation yet, but it has 9 5* reviews on Facebook, for whatever that is worth. It was more of a Greek style.

Fireside Brick Oven Creations in Gales Ferry is my go to because it is within walking distance and also makes really good, if not expensive, sandwiches as well. There is also New York Family (Slices) and Rolling Tomato, both in Groton that won't steer your lunch wrong.

At Modern as I type. We odered a pepperoni, sausage &, mushroom. It was pretty close to everyone's opinion above. Especially the sausage. However we are 45 minutes away.

Rossini's in East Hampton is a reasonable facsimile and only 1/2 mile down the road.

If you are in the neighborhood - give Inferno Pizza on Universal Drive in North Haven a go. New spot opened by a longtime New Haven area pizza virtuoso. Thin crust, New Haven style w/ right amount of char. White clam as good as any I’ve had anywhere else. Foxon Park served as a bonus.

Strip mall location w/ no trouble parking.

Not bad, but their hot pastramis are their real winner.
