I agree that FBD is excellent and well worth going out of your way for, but at around 6.2% ABV I don't think it's a DIPA. That's why they have Double Fuzzy (I prefer the regular).

I would consider Gandhi-Bot a DIPA/Imperial IPA at 8.8%. Also a great beer.

I agree it's not as strong as most DIPAs, but it reminds me more of a double based on how it tastes and the mouthfeel.

EDIT: And I don't know if NEBCO changed the formula at all when they changed the name to G-Bot, but I like the beer more now than I used to. Terrific.

I have no anatomical or other proof to support this theory, but I always wondered if the reason the Alchemist said to drink HT from the can was because that made it more likely that the beer would hit your tongue in the area where your taste buds are most receptive to the bracing hop explosion.

I also have no proof , but I was always under the impression the brewers were trying to hide how cloudy the beer was back when they started canning. The IPA/DIPA craze hadn't fully developed and may have turned people off.

A guy I was in line with at NEBCo came to the Fuzzy Baby Ducks release all the way from Chicago! At least you don't have to hop on a plane lol. It's a very good beer, I need a few more glasses to see how I rank it, but that and Double Fuzzy Baby Ducks are fantastic (again I think they are just as good as Trillium). Locust Reign is great too, but I'm a FBD guy.

NEBCo opened at 3 and there was a pretty big line at 2 PM (Not as big as I've seen at Treehouse though), and they had a pig roast there selling pulled pork sandwiches and other good food for people to buy waiting in line. It's great, people were waiting in line outside drinking G-Bots, someone had Sip of Sunshine, and talking about nothing but beer. Someone mentioned that we all have to try Dogs and Boats from Beer'd, I even heard a good conversation about Sours-perfect for you 8893!

Oh and I tried Doppelganger from Treehouse today, I honestly don't know how they do it! Such a beautiful beer lol.

Yeah, but I live 20 minutes from Trillium and work 50 minutes from Treehouse. Plus I have a house in Vermont. So it's just not worth it. Picked up Singlecut Softly Spoken Magic Spells today....love that beer.

Dogs and Boats is good, but I prefer Hobbit Juice. Had it and Dogs and Capsized Boats at Beervana.

Nice. Jealous of the Ma. Darn UConn hockey and football last weekend getting in my way of a trip to Tree House. Did go today and got some fresh Julius and Doppelganger though. Hope you enjoyed.

Funny, a friend of mine who always goes to Treehouse was in line one day for one of their limited releases was behind 2 guys who drove from Chicago for the release. We both said they must be nuts. Wouldn't it just be cheaper and easier to trade or buy the stuff on Craigslist than drive 1,000 miles?

Beercations are a thing. I'm on Beer Advocate and participate in the New England forum and we are asked for advice on scoping various vacations a few times every week it seems. Often these guys drive from Chicago, hit Treehouse, Trillium, go stay in Boston for a night, drive to Portland ME and hit more places, then head to Vermont and load up on Alchemist, HF, and other stuff, usually staying in Waterbury and hitting the pubs there. My cousin in Missouri is now retired and she and her husband have done 3 beercations so far, to Oregon, up to Iowa, Illinois Michigan and Wisconsin, and over to PA, MD, DE area.

My wife loves IPAs. While I can't really get her to go all in on a beercation, she's fine to make small diversions, like trips to Foley Brothers in VT, stops at Worthy Burger in VT or Prohibition Pig, dinner at a pub owned by Galway Bay Brewing while in Galway, Ireland, that kind of thing. While in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago, we spent some time at the best beer bar in town and walked to a new local brewery (Urban South). Beer is best as part of a larger experience in IMHO.

Softly Spoken - i would put that up against ANYTHING - ridiculously good.

I just got back from Trillium. Stopped on the way home from a Dr. Appt. Got DDH A Street, Mettle, and Nelson Sauvain Fort Point.

As for the genera concept of beer travelers...Trillium I saw two cars with Pennsylvania plates in the parking lot. One guy was loading up 3.5 cases of cans in a Tahoe as I walked in. 4 packs fit six to a case. Prices range from $15 to $22. Most are $17 or $20. So by my math, that's close to $400 in beer.

I've heard that Sluggy Buggy Oatmeal Stout--brewed right in Rocky Hill--is very good. I'm going to pick up a growler tomorrow!

It's a decent list. I haven't had Jjjulius, but regular Julius is amazing. Treehouse Green is at #12. Notice there are two from Grimm here for those of you close to NY. I can't get the IPAs here. Focal Banger is deserving. Another One and Lunch are both great (and Peeper is really good, but I like MO better).

Melcher Street has been my favorite Trillium "street" beer, but that's just a hop preference for Moasic over the Galaxy in Congress, the Simcoe in Summer, Nelson Sauvin in Stllings St. and El Dorado in Sleeper. Very cool how they focus on one hop with the same malt bill for all of those street beers. I got "A Street" today...Amarillo hops. I'm thinking it may unseat Melcher as my favorite.

Nice list. Very Hazy from Treehouse probably wasn't available yet when they did this list. Friends who I trust on this stuff, who have had everything from Treehouse, Trillium, Alchemist, etc., say Very Hazy is the best IPA they've ever had.

They only had what Treehouse sent them (and Trillium for that matter). So just the two beers, both of which were top 15. I'm sure Haze or regular Julius, let alone Very Hazy and King Julius, would have ranked highly. So I wouldn't read this as more than a general list of who is making outstanding IPAs. TH, Trillium, Alchemist, Grimm...
