At the very least BD is hiring from programs the beat PGDL.

Seriously, lots of Cincy/Kelly tie-ins. He's picking people he knows. Since Cincy was consistently the best of the old/new BE that's encouraging.

If you go to C Mich web site and go to schedules/results you can go back and see Cumming's O game by game since 2010. Let's just say individual numbers may be good...but take a look at final scores/W-L's.

It's IS Central Michigan....

An initial impressive assortment of coaches and recruiting coordinators, and now ideally complemented with colleagues with extensive resource-rich, FL, GA, and mid-Atlantic backgrounds and connections ...

The corniness of the term energy vampire has now exceeded its ability to excite. Good concept needs a better hook.

How about energy suck? Energy sink, for the more delicate?

As in, the term energy vampire has become an energy suck.

Had a feeling it would be Cummings. You knew it had to be a MAC coordinator and CMU made the most sense as that's the MAC school Diaco most recently worked at.

I don't want to be a energy vampire, BUT I hope Diaco knows what he's doing with this OC hire. The Chippewas were ranked 108th offensively, 97th in rushing, 84th in passing this year.

I second this notion... paging Andrew Callahan/someone else with time... what's his scheme (besides the description that Diaco gave in his presser). I trust in Diaco, butttttt this doesn't quite fill my energy bucket.

Safe to say that Brian Kelley and/or Buffalo connections go a long way to getting your resume out of the regular apicant pile.

That's NOT good to see!

I don't know much about the Chippewas squad this year, so I'll be cautiously optimistic. When a coach goes #49, #57, #64, and then all the way down to #108, it seems like the last number is the outlier. It could be that they graduated a bunch of OLine kids, or maybe the QB / RB, or maybe all of the above. I'll have to do more searching around that...

Brings me back to what I wrote/thought before. This guy is assembling a staff that seems to have a common theme of each being in a position of having something to prove from my perspective, and I like that. Maybe it's a figment of my imagination.....maybe not....I see first time coaches - obvious.......A guy like Patterson that if the things I've read are true, was essentially forced out of head coaching football in the crappiest beaurocratic/administrative/non-football related move I think I've ever encountered....a guy like Cummings, proving that producing that #1 draft pick last April was no fluke........

The recruiting experience connection is nice too.

I've said this till I'm blue in the face - players build football programs, not coaches. Coaches just drive for a while. THe players in the past 13 years have built this program up and they did it by playing with a chip on their shoulders and something to prove.

I want that attitude back in the program.

Good catch. Also, in 2010 (his first year there), they were #49 in total offense. That helps me settle the uneasy feeling in my stomach a little... ;)
Current Tenn Vol OC Mike Bajakian had them at 23 the year before. Going from 49-108 in 4 years is NOT good in my book.

I bit more homework on CMU O - run vs pass:

Year Rush Pass Attempts % Rush % Pass
2010 383 477 860 45% 55%
2011 333 458 791 42% 58%
2012 415 413 828 50% 50%
2013 410 346 756 54% 46%

was this guy the OC when Dan LeFevour was QB..? if he had anything to do with that kids development, i would see that as a major plus.

Yup, from 2012 to 2013, CMU lost their star QB (Cooper Rush, 127 passing rating) and three of their OLinemen (both tackles and a guard). That always puts a cramp in an offensive system...

Let's be honest, shall we? I don't know the guy, so I don't want to overly defend him, but they didn't go from 49 to 108. They were in or around the 50's in total offense for three consecutive years, and then went to 108. And take a look at my post above, giving a pretty valid reason as to why.

Again, I don't know the guy from Adam, but it seems like there are some reasons to be cautiously optimistic about him...
