She's the offensive centerpiece of the least-talented team in the league as a rookie. The results are predictably terrible (33.6% FG)

#2 and #3 on the team in FGA/36 minutes are Kaela Davis (37.0 FG%) and Kayla Thornton(34.7 FG%). It's easy to say she should shoot less but her team doesn't have many good options. Besides, her coach is running plays for her, which I assume means that he wants her to shoot.

Basically, she is doing her job, but her job is nearly impossible.

Seattle lost 2 all stars and still is an average team because other players stepped up.
 
Wait y'all ... I just realized what Arike's problem is. She has a male coach! Muffet herself said that having a male coach destroys the confidence of female players. No wonder Arike looks lost and bewildered most of the time. Down with the ol' boys network!

Agler's trying to have her play point guard which is a joke. The Wings have no point guard right now. McCarty could be one in a couple of years but Agler isn't giving her enough playing time.
Without a true point guard the Wings can't take advantage of Gustafson in the paint.

I don't think much of the Wings coaching staff as a whole and, no, Arike is not the ROY.

The fearlessly aggressive mentality she had at Notre Dame has continued into the WNBA, and it's what the Wings need.

"If you're going to be a great player in this league, you've gotta be a confident player, be resilient," Agler said. "You're going to have your bad games, but you've got to let it go and move on to the next one. She really has the knack for doing that."

She could have been harmed; falling on one's tailbone is not fun. Arike also went after Crystal's neck/head too. The OSU player who was kicked in the head by Arike could have been harmed as well. And that was in college! At least in the WNBA there are consequences and Diana has deserved hers.

I feel like people fall on their butts harder any time a charge is taken.

But to the larger point - they are both hotheads with a history of occasionally going over the line in terms of physicality. But for the post above to assert that Arike is but Taurasi isn't? That's just counterfactual.

The larger point is that Arike had a coach in college who enabled and excused her in this type of despicable low-class behavior while Taurasi had a coach who harshly disciplined her for merely clapping in an opponent’s face.

To even suggest that Arike has earned the right to be considered on the same plane as one of the greatest players ever is countersensical.

AO scores 21 with 5 dimes as Wings win 3rd straight (tied for second longest current winning streak).

AO was again high volume, low efficiency in contrast to Pheesa's low volume high efficiency effort in the Lynx loss to the Mystics last night.
 
Arike will probably win ROY because she’s had a couple of really efficient games sandwiched between her volume games. Napheesa suffers from being a hard working, less flashy style of play when it comes to individual awards. Her name is well known, but she doesn’t play the same kind of basketball as Arike. Collier simply plays to help her team while Arike seems to play to win it all herself at times (hence the volume shooting).
 
AO has another strong game and continues her superlative -July-. Correction August in the Wings loss to the Lynx.

My opinion here, Wings played the Lynx, considering the ROY top 2 candidates went head to head it would have been nice to give a shout out to Collier for her play in this 86 to 70 Lynx win.

Arike had 22 pts on 6-14 FG (43%) in 37 minutes of play, 1-4 3PT (25%), 9-10 FT (90%), 1 RB, 3 AST, 2 STL, 4 TO, +/- -19.

Collier on the other hand 19 pts on 6-11 FG (54.5%) in 35 minutes, 0-1 3PT (0%), 7-7 FT (100%), 5 REB, 1 AST, 4 STL, 1 BLK, 0 TO, , +/- +13.

When comparing both ROY stats for this game, I tell you if Arike had another strong game...I got go with Collier had a better game.
