Everyone is wondering what will become of UConn hoops post Jim Calhoun. Articles are being written, threads are being posted, etc., wondering if we will be able to maintain elite status. But are we really elite anymore?

As much as I want to say yes, if Kemba's team doesn't have that miraculous post season run in 2011, and even the most optimistic UConn fan must admit we caught lightning in a bottle then, I'm not sure. Our last 7 years have been very mediocre and our post season record has been awful. The numbers below don't look like that of an elite program.

The 2011 title allowed us to maintain the elite perception, but the recent underlying numbers don't support it. I can't help but wonder if Arizona hits that 3 in the 2011 tourney if UConn would still be perceived as a top hoop school.

Anyway, I'm not looking to get slammed here. I'd love JC to stay 10 more years. But I'm just taking an honest look at recent history and really, it's not 'all that.'

With new facilities, etal, a new coach can likely at least maintain our recent records and hopefully even improve.

Honest thoughts?

Let's see. We have been to two final 4's in the last 4 years and won a national championship. In the last 14 years we have won 3 NC's more than any other school. Just look at the FACTs. Yes we are an elite program. You must be blind if you think you took an honest review of recent history. No school has performed as well as Uconn in the last 15 years. 3 NC's, 5 final 4's. You need to go back and do your homework!!

Your correct it should be 4 and 6 BE regular season championships and 5 BE tour. Titles and a dozen or so NBA players. Not Bad.

There's a reason why some forums don't give you thread-starting privileges until you have a certain number of posts. It's an anti- measure. I got Massengill on me reading this post.

This is actually one of this character's least controversial (to put it nicely) posts so be mindful of that when trying to respond with logic.

It's good to know that when i do something really dumb, I can always come here and read a thread like this and be reassured that I'm not the biggest idiot on the planet.

I know it has been a slow time of the year with no meaningful info for both hoops and football but really ? Can we have 3-4 bad years before we address this bullcrap ?

Are we an elite program right now? 100% absolutely, no question about it. In a fairly extensive sample size of 20 years, how many programs have a better track record? The number is easily on one hand - that's elite. Is this program at a serious crossroads whereas the next 5 years lay down the blueprint for whether it remains one? Absolutely. It doesn't have enough historical ilk to have immunity to a couple bad turns/decisions - we've seen one coach programs go from upper echelon to just another program pretty quickly when the baton wasn't passed appropriately.

I must have missed the memo about 7 years being the key. How did you happen to hit upon that particular number of years as your qualifier? Uhm... wait a minute. You SAID the last 7 years, but included NEXT year, when we are being raped by the NCAA and are guaranteed no post season wins. Interesting logic to apply there. Maybe we should look at the last 7 years, the way you said you did. Oh, wait. When you actually look at the last 7 years (2006 to 2012) the record is 169-69 73-51 and spoils your pretext completely.

In the future, you might want to avoid taking that hit off the crack pipe before posting.

Honest thoughts?

You're a duck*ing idiot and as dopey as this board can be at times, it got immeasurably worse when you stumbled onto it.

I actually pray that you're a troll and not simply dumb.

Let me know the numbers for the other elite schools: duke, unc, uk, Indiana, iCal for the past 7 years. I'd include Michigan state also. Not any other school. Certainly no one else in the big east (cuss is the closest but their past 7 years are worse than uconns)

Actually, what I like about the OPs question is that even doubters admit we achieved elite status.
