They were missing Kasey Hill, their backup PG (and obviously Chris Walker) and Scottie Wilbekin twisted his ankle and was out the last 3 minutes. Wilbekin may not have been a huge loss offensively as UF scored every possession the rest of the game but he's also one of the best defensive guards in the country, something we do like to forget when explaining his absence. Big factor? Who knows.

Actually they also played a high half court trap 1-3-1 zone when Wilbekin went out and we couldn't get a good shot…….I mean Wilbekin is real good but they played their best basketball the last 3 minutes and had a chance!
 
Couldn't be happier we dropped out of the top 25. This team has laid some serious eggs this year. At the beginning of the season we snuck by, but I hope this game, which we should 100% have won, wakes them the duck up.

I agree and I personally believe we win either way considering how they performed down the stretch but I wanted to give an honest response to kobe.

They better not be whining about not being ranked. they played a terrible game at home against SMU and didn't look very impressive against temple either (despite winning). they should be concentrating on winning the next game and leave the rankings to the Uh...experts?

No way should UConn have been dropped, what 5 spots and out of the top 25. Based on the following data these teams should have checked in as follows: Memphis 21, SMU 22 and UConn 24 or 25. I have no problems with SMU jumping back into the top 25 and over UConn and a few other teams. UCLA and the Zags were bounced from the top 25 deservedly, but to vote New Mexico in and keep Texas (granted two tough road losses to ranked teams) over UConn, again shows prejudice IMO.

Here's how SMU, Mempis and UConn stack up against one another:

SMU: (RPI-37) 22-6
Against one another: 3-0 against UConn (2-0) and Memphis* (1-0)
Record against other common AAC ranked opponents: UL (0-1), Cinci* (1-1)
Other top 25: UVA (0-1) who's now #12
Unranked and/or Bad Losses: at ARK, USF & Temple
*Against top 25 in Feb: 3-0 with Ws over Memphis, Cinci & UConn.

Granted Memphis does not have any WTF losses like UConn and SMU have, but they lost to UConn and SMU this month, are 0-3 head-to-head with those two teams, and their only other quality win this month was against the Zags. Even though they went 2-0 last week, those Ws were against AAC bottom feeders RU & Temple. How they went up one spot to 21 is beyond me.

As for UConn, we did go 1-2 head-to-head this month, though just beat Memphis for the 2nd time the week-before-last. We have a couple WTF losses this season, which seems to continue to be weighted heavily against us still. And of course we just lost yesterday to a surging SMU, which IM deserves to be ranked and is a surprisingly very good team.

SMU - If not for two WTF losses relatively recently, at USF on 1/28 & at Temple on 2/16, the case for a higher ranking that the other two programs would be a no-brainer. I'm sure the voters noticed the recent Ws against Memphis, Cinci & UConn, making it an easy case to move them back into the top 25.

We're still in striking distance of the top 25. If we take care of business, winning at USF and then hold court and beat UC, something we couldn't do against SMU, we'll be right back into the top 25 next week.

They also have to keep focus against that weaker schedule, that doesn't mean they can't raise their game when needed.

WSU, because of their record, deserves where they are, However, last year they snuck up on everyone and really had nothing to lose in the dance. This year, if they continue as is, they go into the dance a #1 seed and with all the pressure and that big bullseye on their back. The question is, will they handle that type of attention and pressure. They aren't feeling it now because of their league and lack of real competition. I am not sure, but if memory serves me correct, I also think they have the luxury of having many seniors and juniors on the team.
Again, they are undefeated-a hard thing to do but I need to see what they do with the pressure.

We played OC about 30 minutes bs Kromah 10
We had two freshman centers that had limited experience when we played.and got pushed around.
Play your silly games bottom line we won they lost.
Our starting team has changed as much if not more since the that game.

Agree with 99% of this. I wouldn't only add the loss to Stanford was bad because they had a 10 point lead at home. Stanford, however, has done decently since then and may even end up ranked the way they are going. They are in 3rd place in the Pac12.
 
After yesterdays performance UConn shouldnt be ranked and like another poster said why should Memphis drop when UConn is the one that lost this weekend.

Thanks for correcting me on that. I fixed it above. I really don't think there is a lot of separation between the 3 teams. If both UConn and Memphis can manage to beat UC over the next couple weeks, the separation between the 4 of the top 5 AAC schools closes even further.

At the very least he certainly knows he's needed. I felt worse for the 99 team, we gave them little to root for.
 
As for the UConn ranking arguments, many posters are making good, strong, rational, thoughtful, and calculated observations.

My question is; "do you really think the 'human' pollsters (who have full time jobs and families) are doing the same when they rank teams each week?"

No it is not, especially for the tournament committee, they look at the current RPI rankings of the teams when counting their top 50 wins, ect. Maybe in your mind what a team is ranked in November matters, but not in reality.

I think you need to realize how the polls work, from one voter: "I've always felt the AP poll was supposed to be current situation and NCAA seeding was reserved for overall resume."

Comparing resumes is not what they do, never have.

You do realize New Mexico beat Cincy? Beat SDST? Has higher RPI than us? Same amount of Top 50 wins? Playing the same SOS and have won 9 of 10. It is not bias why they are ranked over us, not even close.
