AP Poll: UConn drops out

This is the most whiny, pissy board I can possibly imagine. A loss and everyone rushes to downgrade every single thing to do with the program. Even the win over Florida is now meaningless.

My god.

Shabazz Napier sucks, by the way. Remember that one?

Our board is a nuclear wasteland after L's

St. Louis and Wichita State would get lit up by UConn? C'mon, let's at least try to be a little objective here. Both of those teams are very similar to SMU, whom we've lost to twice. I'm not saying we couldn't win those games, but to say they would get "lit up by UConn" is just being a homer.

WSU also got to the final four last year, with a team that isn't as good as this one. Experience is very undervalued in the college game. Yes, they have close games...and won them all. They also have to keep focus against that weaker schedule, that doesn't mean they can't raise their game when needed.

Uh, there is only one guy on the board getting whiny and pissy about being ranked #26.

Whiny and pissy is dominating the board. Every backward argument you can imagine. Just reactionary knee-jerk junk. Put Memphis up against UConn and then make a case. At least that would be substantive.

Do you drop Memphis because UConn lost?

The polls are done on a week to week basis, it is not hard to understand why they are ranked ahead of us

There aren't many things I care less about than polls. I care a lot more about UConn showing consistent, legitimate improvement in February, and that hasn't really happened yet.

That's a lot more worrisome than the order in which a bunch of lazy journalists rate teams.

You look at the body of work. Lots of teams lose and don't move much for precisely these reasons. This is why there are 7 loss teams in the top 25.

Memphis is actually a good example. They dropped 2 slots last week. As did Ohio State after a loss on home court. If you look at the polls, it happens regularly that a team goes 1-1 and drops a slot or two. Heck, 7-loss Iowa lost at home to Ohio st. 2 weeks ago, and they moved UP!

Not to worry we'll be back in soon enough. We are getting back to the dance. If we do reasonably well, I'll be satisfied with season. I wish we had better supporting players for Bazz though.

Come one. We beat Florida, on an amazing last second shot. We played lousy against Stanford. We beat Memphis in Memphis. We lost to Houston on the road. We blew CFU away like a kindergarten team. We lost a home game yesterday to SMU.

Can we at the very least admit that this UConn team is wildly inconsistent? I sure don't know which team will show up game to game. Good UConn is probably top 15. Bad UConn would be NIT bound. Florida lost by one on the road to Good UConn. They'd beat Bad UConn like a drum.

Realistic? Like in the chat yesterday?
I said nothing other than "nice pass Giff" or "Kromah needs to hit the bench" or maybe a "Boat c'mon finish that."

I'm not really sure what you're implying.

probably for the best. this team plays better with a chip on its shoulder. if they want the little number back next to their name then they have a perfectly good chance to earn it this week.

Come on what? What is your argument here? Every team loses games.

Memphis lost on the road to a ranked team and OSU lost to the #15 team.

The three teams that entered this week were NM, who beat the #6 team, SMU, who beat us twice, and UNC, who beat the #5 team and went 3-0 this week. Hard to argue they should not jump us.

I agree we should be ranked ahead of Memphis based on the head to head but it is impossible to do a top 25 based on head to heads. There was no way Memphis was moving down just so they could still be ranked behind us.

I don't understand why you think we deserve so much respect, but I really do hope that you see something I do not. This team has proven that it can beat top teams no question, but has also proven to be very inconsistent which is not a good quality to have. Besides the two wins against Memphis we have not beaten a good team since Florida on December 2nd. If that does not scare you I don't know what will...we need to handle business against Cincy on Saturday and show what we are capable of. Sweeping Memphis is all well and good but we match up very well against them and they are not an elite team at the moment.

The board isn't being whiny or pissy, or forgetting the Florida win. But nor can we say, we beat Florida, they are #1, so we are #1A. That's nonsense. Most teams lose games (Wichita State hasn't), but how they lose maters.

Our losses aren't good ones at this point. UL is good, but losing to them at home by 12? Bad loss. SMU at home? Bad loss. Houston on the road, atrociously bad loss. Stanford, bad loss. Cinci road with DD out...good loss. SMU road, not terrible. Look at Memphis, their losses are better than ours, and they are still ranked.

What does this even mean?

Everyone knows Florida is #1 and has two losses this year. One to UConn and one to Wisconsin. Absolutely no one remembers what Florida's rank was when UConn played them. No one.
It means Uconn beat the number 15 team in the country. Not the number 1. That's how it works. If Florida finishes the season ranked number 1, bracketologists are not going to say "uconn beat the number 1 team." They will say "uconn beat the number 15 team." And also, like many posters have stated, polls are done week to week. If each week, polls were done based on complete body of work, then for example, Memphis woud be a 10-15 team. Wins over a #6, #12, and #25 with no losses outside the top 30. But that's not how it works. On selection Sunday, complete body of work will be looked at, but polls are week to week. Well, unless you're a blue blood. Then you get a little special treatment.

Baloney.
Florida was unrecognized as a great team this year early on. Their early, low ranking was only applied because they hadn't had a chance to prove themselves. It happens every year.
It is completely silly to say that beating them when their talent was unrecognized by the national pollsters is somehow equivalent to beating a team that was not a top ten team. They were a top ten team, they just hadn't been ranked in the top ten yet.
Isn't that obvious?

I didn't say everyone should bow down to UConn. I said it should be ahead of Memphis based on wins, record, OOC games, etc. I mean, you wrote they are not an elite team, but they are ahead of UConn, based on what... nobody knows.

Everyone and their mother beat a #5 Oklahoma St this year. Nobody cares.

Just like UConn beat #1 Texas a couple years ago. A Texas team that ended up unranked.

There is a huge difference between beating teams that are currently good compared to beating teams that used to be good.

Sigh. Strawman. No one said we are #1A. What is wrong with you people?

I mean, if you guys are just going to say nutty things as though I said them, then what's the point?

We haven't beaten a good team since Florida ? Memphis is in the top25. Not counting those wins isn't really fair, unless you're suggesting Memphis isn't even good. (They are)
