If it is Moorhead why did it take so long to announce it? I did not know Akron was playing for a CFP spot.
This is was my reaction when I keep seeing Moorhead's name mentioned for being hired to coach UConn Football:
Season 5 No GIF by The Office

I still remember the very dark day of Dec 28, 2016, when I turned on my computer and saw the hyperlink on the right side of ESPN.com that said "Randy Edsall returns as head coach of Huskies" and how completely deflated I felt.

Agree, yet I am reflexively checking the football board. I suspect the next time we hear anything it will be the listing of the position, which will lead people to passing the qualifications to determine who the candidate is.
I prefer parsing the qualifications. Passing the qualifications is sometimes difficult.

If you can get a guy who is 13-35 at Akron and only had success at Fordham you have to do it.

In all seriousness Moorhead is the worst name I've seen thrown out there and there's been plenty of bad names thrown out there.
What was his record at Mississippi State?

The Boneyard’s general consensus is we cant screw this up.

You can have slower and right decision or fast and wrong decision. You can’t have both.
I beg to differ. Rule #1 says you can also have slower and the wrong decision.

.-.
Morehead makes the most sense. Maybe not the best but has head coaching credentials which aren’t bad.

I'm on the fence about Morehead, but if we wanted him he would have accepted and been announced already.

The only possible defense of Moorehead's time at Akron is that there is little Akron has to distinguish itself from the other five Ohio MAC schools who all draw from the same recruiting pool. Adding to that challenge is that the other five were in the MAC for more than four decades longer than Akron.

I will go on record now stating that I will be very disappointed if he lands the job (not the punch in the gut that Pasqualoni was, but still bad), but as I had done with all prior hires, I will hope for the best and be sure that there is sufficient alcohol to temper my dissatisfaction.

You've stated the downside of why I have mixed feelings. The upside is he was here and knows the program, he was a really good OC for a long time, given the issues Mississippi State has in the SEC his job there was solid, and while his time at Akron has not been good there's also a reason he hasn't been pushed out yet -- because even Akron knows that no one is going to win at Akron.

I mean, he wasn't THAT bad at Mississippi at least as far as record. 8-4 in the first year, granted 6-7 in the second year though there were a bunch of players suspended for academic issues and his QB was injured in a fight during practice. So those two things are cause for concern.

Ryan CartyHead Coach, Delaware32-17 record over 4 seasons; 6-6 in Delaware's 2025 FBS transition; beat UConn this year. Age 42.Young, rising star with recent FBS exposure; fits UConn's goal of becoming a top independent/G5 program. Strong recruiter from Northeast.
Joe MoorheadHead Coach, Akron8-28 at Akron (MAC); prior success as Fordham HC (20-4) and Penn State OC; UConn OC (2009-10).Northeast familiarity; offensive innovator who could leverage UConn's improved facilities and talent base.

Very true, but isn't it the job of head coach to run his program so that it can be distinguished from its peers? If Moorhead can't outperform Toledo, Kent St, and a bunch of directional Michigans, then is he the kind of guy we want?

Moorhead's record at Akron is the one reason why I wouldn't be thrilled with a Moorhead hire.

OK, you are off my shortlist to replace Mora as well!

13-35 as HC at Akron. Are you delusional?
He actually didn’t do badly at MS State and was super at Fordham. Akron obviously didn’t pan out. Good OC credentials.

Good body of work. Knows UCONN and Northeast recruiting.

He took over a team that was 34-18 in Dan Mullen's last 4 years at Mississippi State and got fired in 2 seasons. He's been a disaster at Akron.

He did very badly at Mississippi State.

He got fired for like 23 different reasons there.

Lembo is the head coach at Buffalo, not DC. 9-4 last year, 5-7 this year. He tends to have the ability to win where it is tough to win. Ball State, first Elon Coach with a winning tecord in his career.

1. I don’t think so. Wouldn’t be bad.

2. Not in play.

3. Oh my god no. He’s a special teams coach, maybe we can get him to be our special teams coach.

4. Maybe 10 years ago. Just signed 40 guys to Temple said at the Presser that this would be his last job. Not in play.

That was pointless.

Apparently the “scoop” is literally just people they are talking about on their internal message board. You can safely disregard anything from that place.
