When did our standards sink so low? Right where she left off? Anna last three games of the season last year were against AAC opponents USF, Temple and Cincinnati.

Is this the type of productivity we are looking forward to and excited about?

If you are asking if we would take Anna shooting 55% from 3 and averaging 6.7 assists a game this season, then yes, we would accept that level of productivity. Because if she's shooting 55% from the arc, I'm sure Paige, Nika and company will find her for plenty of shots.

I'm sure you would. I know it is close to Christmas but I'm not Santa. That is not what I was asking.
You have to factor in the opponents to get closer to what I'm asking. Kind of like Carli Collier currently leading the nation in scoring.

Makurat is a good player, but she is NOWHERE near an All American level player! Her playing time is going to be down significantly this year and she may not even start. Don't get me wrong Makurat is a pretty damn good player, but we often forget just how good some of the previous All American greats at UConn were.
I can tell you that Megan was named an All-American and I think that even last year, that Anna was at least as much a contributor as was Megan .... I recently wrote that I thought that she was not deserving of A/A status but that was after she'd been in the program for three years ... Anna came to the Huskies from a different country and her melding into UConn basketball and the American culture had to be quite difficult and particularly in the latter part of her season, she was a significant asset to this team .... in my mind, at least on the level of Megan and to suggest that she's less than A/A material when Megan was awarded A/A status, doesn't jive with me .... I feel that she's only going to get better and the fact that she's reporting to the team seemingly in better shape, having trimmed down, suggests that we haven't yet seen her ceiling ....

Anna will average 25 pts a game. You can take that to the bank. Maybe! Conjecture and speculation are running rampant on the boneyard as we anxiously await our first game. I am chewing my fingernails and watching
Pac 10 games. Maybe I will watch all of Paige's HS games or dream of Azzi and Paige in the same backcourt. I am going crazy. Please don't cancel anymore games.

That just luda and boder line playa hatin. There are many awards well below the level of AA. For example All-Conference and National Freshman of the year. Had Anna contributed as much as Megan did last year she would have been in contention for some of those lesser awards-but she wasn't. Had Anna contributed as much as Megan last year she surely would have been named one of the top 10 freshman in the country by ESPN-but she wasn't.

This would be more PPG than any player in Division I last year.

Makurat is a fine player, but if Westbrook was cleared to play last season, I think Anna would have been a bench player. She started last year and things worked out fine for her but this years team does have more talent, If she can play the point forward from the 4 spot then I see her starting all year, if not she could be pushed back to the 6th man role, I do believe she will help the team out this season, but I’m not seeing her on the same level as Paige, Westbrook, or Williams, the 3 players who will probably be in the spot light this season and the best chances to be all Americans. Liv is more of a specialist at this point, center is one of the deepest positions in the country this year, Cunane, Boston, Collier, and now Prince are 4 of the best post players in all of the land.
I'm hoping that Westbrook is going to be a key contributor this year but she hasn't played competitive basketball for almost two years and recently had some more surgery on her knee or knees .... the presumption that she is going to be a dynamo for this team and Anna is going to be almost an afterthought is based on nothing more than an opinion .... there aren't all that many people here on the Boneyard who have ever seen Westbrook play and have a sense of her abilities .... didn't someone post quite a while back that she had some serious turnover issues when she was with Tennessee .... why are people that apt to minimize Anna and her contributions last year and yet assume that Westbrook was a great talent (without seeing her play) and not be wary of her coming back from a pretty serious knee issue ... why can't we assume that Anna might experience a good sized jump after her freshman year, particularly considering the fact that she not only came into a new program that historically plays at a high level but that she was coming to a new (foreign, to her) country and dealing with all the social issues that she may have been experiencing .... I would suggest that most players, no matter how talented, would have difficulties going into a completely new culture and not have troubles adapting to it all ....

"Too slow" is an opinion given by one BYer. This kid, Anna, is maybe the 'key' that makes a terrific team a great team. Yes, she is a personal favorite of mine. It doesn't mean I don't care for all the other....please! Yes, she is not the fastest, but makes up for it with her intelligence, instincts, and overall skills on the court.
If I understand Geno, just a little bit, he knows what he has in Anna, I bet things will change and kids like Paige, etc, will find her. Yes, she was denied the ball by MW, but also at times by others. Does every player have to be called out? Geno will make sure that Anna sees the ball...important to get her going early! Anna was just a freshman last year and as so may others have pointed out, she came from across the sea into a new environment. Now that she is acclimated at UConn, we should see an improved version....let her bloom into her top tier level.

Walker averaged 20pts, 8rbs, and out shot Makurat in EVERY possible metric, and you think Makurat's 8pts and 4 rbs per game made her an equal contributor to Walker? I'm sorry, but that is utterly absurd and borderline delusional! Statistically, Makurat was NOT even half as good as Walker was.

I thought Makurat was fast running the floor. She has a long stride and goes well from foul line to foul line, even with the ball. What she lacked was quickness.

Why not compare them as freshmen? I'd say Makurat had a better frosh season.

People aren't throwing that AA term around to be disrespectful or to annoy you. AA expectations has become the reality (norm?) for just about every UCONN WBB player who becomes a starter by sophomore year. There is no other program that can make this claim.

How many sophomore AAs has UConn had, 4 or 5?

Because that is NOT what the OP stated, they explicitly said that Makurat contributed just as much as Walker did last year.

I think though you are being disrespectful to a potentially tremendous shooter (with size_ who may become a primary go-to scorer.

If calling somebody a "damn good player" is seen as "disrespectful" in your eyes, I honestly don't know what to tell you.

The suggestion that I'm a hater is pretty ludicrous but you're entitled to think what you may .... I don't think there was a big difference between the two of them and their contributions and I'll continue to stick with that .... I know that Anna came into a completely new environment, new country, different customs and after a really slow start, at least shooting wise, she played at a pretty high level .... I'm not suggesting A/A worthy but pretty impressive, considering what she was dealing with .... For some people to suggest that Anna couldn't come back and have a big sophomore bounce .... for example, look much Kelly Faris grew during her UConn career .... she had very little impact at all on the Huskies in her freshman year but inevitably, how did she develop? Initially she was a just a decent defensive player but she evolved into a very impressive player, growing significantly, particularly offensively from that freshman season .... I thought that Megan was a good player but that she didn't have an A/A type season last year .... I'm more focused on what kind of player Anna could possibly develop into, considering her trimming down and with a difficult season behind her ....

I guess I owe Megan an apology because I didn't realize that her stats were nearly that impressive .... for some reason, I thought that she was closer to 16 or 17 points a game .... Anna shot the three at over 40% and that's after a slow start but I think that she focused more on distributing the basketball and didn't put up a big amount of shots .... I do think that Anna's value to the team was a lot more than the numbers suggest ....

It was supposed to be a satire full of conjecture and speculation. realistically I think Anna will have a wonderful season and show how complete a player she really is. I think Paige and Anna are our best outside shooters and best passers. Time will tell until then it is ALL conjecture and speculation.
