Akok Akok (PF) In Play

BasketballRecruiting.Rivals.com - Wednesday's Leftovers: Dishing on Duke, UNC and plenty of prospects
Providence would love to add another member from the Rivals150 alongside four-star forward Greg Gantt, and Akok Akok could be a guy who would answer a lot of its questions in the 2019 class. However, there is a lot more time to go in his recruitment, as UConn, Pitt, Maryland, Georgetown and Syracuse are just a few that have invested a good amount of time in recruiting him. While it's difficult to forecast, I think Providence will miss on Akok.

Honestly just sounds like he's taking "the field."

Cooley and his whole staff was in for Akok this morning... don’t think they’re “moving on”

They're not.

It's ridiculous to try to parse every word that comes out of these recruiting stories.

Fairly clear that it's Syracuse and then four or five schools trying to get past them.

Hate to lose him, especially hate to lose him to school that won't teach him any marketable NBA skills. Still, they are a plucky, gritty bunch, so at least he'd have that.

Isn’t it odd then that’s he’s only planned Offical Visits to UConn and Georgetown? You would think the school in the lead would at least be mentioned by the kid in an article about what’s next for him? Or do you think they’ll have that conversation soon?

We'll cut the food a little smaller.

These kids are inundated by these quasi-reporters who really just want to get the kid to mention their school or a list of schools or really anything that can be slapped up on a website.

It's been ten years since I've had to care about this stuff, but you need to see the kids when these guys are interviewing them - nine times out of ten, the kid is staring off into space just hoping to get it over with so he can go about his life. His concern is not that you, the reader, get a faithful accounting of exactly what is going on in his head with regard to his recruiting. He wants to do something other than talk to the oaf holding an iPhone at his head.

If the kid doesn’t want to do an interview, why would he do the interview? Are they just too nice to tell a reporter they aren’t interested? Genuinely curious.

That, and also I'm sure they don't want to get the reputation of being difficult among college coaches and recruiting circles.

In the Paxton article Akok says the head coach is the most important thing in his decision. Who knows if Boeheim has 5 more years in him to live Akok's college career out.
Our favorite dad is liking what he’s seeing at least

This is a crazy development.

Providence seems like they’ve fallen behind and may move onto Coulibaly.

But what may be even crazier is him mentioning taking OVs to UConn and Georgetown, but not Cuse or PC.

Hate to sound too eager, but that sounds VERY good for UConn. Be happy people.

Georgetown could be a problem. Their coach may have the ability of Chris Mullin, but he'll certainly make a major impression when he walks in the room.

I believe Boeheim's extension runs through the 2021-2022 season. That would make him about 77!
Mike Hopkins, their "coach in waiting" left for the Washington HC job.

Heard its very tight. Some people think Cuse. Providence had been mentioned a lot. Georgetown/Maryland too. I'm hearing we have a slight lead but this is gonna come down to the wire. Huge advantage we have is proximity. We will be in see to him a lot.
May have been answered before, but is there any indication on when he wants to decide?

Not that this means anything but this is what Kevin McNamara who is plugged in wrote a few days ago after Akok's visit to PC.

PC made Akok, who plays at Putnam (Conn.) Science a priority over a year ago. He’s risen into the top 50 of most rankings as scouts like his ability to step away from the hoop and make plays and also protect the rim on defense. Syracuse, Georgetown and UConn are working Akok hard but he was on PC’s campus last weekend and will return for an official visit next month.
