I am surprised that in the new college environment more HS players aren't holding off on signing until they see what happens with the portal. The college landscape is very different on May15, than it is on Nov15. Not only are more coaches moving as ADs are actually looking for results, but transfers out and in change team make-ups.

I understand even signing something isn't final any more, but it does create more issues. If a player is pretty equally interested in 2 or more programs, why not wait?

Maybe it will become the trend but it's hard to say for a few more years at least. The COVID year situation has skewed things in my opinion. The new player compensation arrangement that will be implemented could also impact things too.

This is very interesting that she is now waiting after saying she would announce on Sunday. It sounds like something changed. From Uconn's standpoint a few theories seem more possible now. If Uconn thought Somfai was coming, and they thought that might be the last spot they would have, they might have indicated as much to Agot.

That scenario would be consistent with Agot, who called Uconn a dream school, scheduling her announcement after Somfai's on purpose, and cancelling a scheduled visit, fully expecting to announce another school after Somfai picked Uconn. If Lara's decision caught Uconn and Agot off guard, maybe we are back in play and perhaps that visit might come after all, and then she would make a decision..

Much speculation there I know, but given her cancellation of an announcement, something seemed to have changed, and I wonder if Lara's decision and roster availability had something to do with it. If we see another scheduled visit to Storrs anytime soon, I think we might get our hopes up, but if not I would go back to the consensus view that we are on the outside looking in.

I don’t think Somfai’s decision impacted Agot’s decision at all. When Somfai posted that she was going to announce soon, Agot responded on Ig, saying she already knew where Somfai was going. Given that there was no confirmation she was on campus for her OV a few weeks ago, I think we are no longer in play.

I don’t remember if she ever visited MSU or Kentucky, but if she does. She maybe looking for immediate playing time, than she would get at UConn or South Carolina.

I’m not buying this whole notion of recruits saying UConn is their dream school anymore. How many times have we been burned in the past thinking we had someone secured because they said this? Only to commit somewhere else

Brynn and Lara are the most recent ones to do this.

Unfortunately, it may be that some recruits are going to be concerned about how long Geno will be coaching when it comes to recruiting the '26 class and beyond........you can bet that there will be competing coaches who will be mentioning it.....

It has been reported Makeer has visited MSU twice, but believe they were both unofficials. She has been quoted in articles that she liked Coach Fralick's approach. Haven't read or heard anything about visits to Kentucky.

She also said that the coaching staff she has the best relationship with is MSU's. She also likes that MSU is closer to home (Toronto) than other schools, and she calls their facilities "Elite".

Home for her is Thunder Bay actually. At the top of the mitten, as a Michigander would say.

Something came to mind over the weekend is that we're not hearing much about Makeer and how she's progressing this season. Per this stat sheet for Monteverde Academy, she's only played three games to date this season. Hopefully it's nothing major, but could it be something to monitor??? Not sure.

Looking at the stats, I see that Agot Makeer took part in 3 of the 7 games counted. They were defeated for the first time today as the team participates in the Hoopfest in Paradise, showcase in Nassau, Bahamas. This week's latest ESPN National Rankings put them in first place, but today's 62-55 defeat should not move them, as they were beaten by Ontario's Fort Erie. However, I couldn't find out if they were in uniform.

Thanks for sharing. Interesting and ironic that they lost to Fort Erie, a team Makeer faced several times while with Crestwood. The mystery as to whether Makeer is playing continues however.

And I just realized you noted the tournament is in the Bahamas. How a Canadian prep program is able to afford this is mind-blowing. With the currency exchange as it is, how they're able to manage the costs is unreal.

Agot Makeer was in the lineup today. I found a short video on Fort Erie's Instagram account, she's wearing #11 in white, she's got long sleeves.

Agot goes to Montverde Academy here in Florida, about 40-50 minutes from me, depending on traffic. Should she commit, I'll try to get to a game to see her. Montverde plays IMG Academy in Bradenton, about 3 hours from me, in February.
Should be a good game. I don’t see her deciding before then. I m guessing but I think she’s gonna wait to see: (1) how each of her favorites do this season; and (2) how/what each team does in the portal.

Michigan State may be in better shape than any of the championship snobs may suspect.

There's another interesting possibility for you, on January 31 Montverde hosts Long Island Lutheran. LuHi is currently ranked 5th and Montverde is at the top of the National Rankings. Don't forget that LuHi has two players among UConn's POI, Olivia Jones and one whose name we haven't yet opened a post on, Zaniyah Williams.

Found some current stats for Agot, a 6-1 G/F:

11.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.2 steals, .9 blocks after 11 games

She plays for Montverde Academy with UConn player of interest Saniyah Hall, a 6-2 forward
