Attended the UVA/Syracuse game today. I must say, Dayaisa Fair is , really, really good. Seemed to be in total control. Excellent ball handler and passer. Had a great shooting night. UVA did what it’s done so many times this season. Terrible 1st quarter (10-24), outscored the ‘Cuse the rest of the game. Frantic comeback attempt in the 4th Q, but fell just short. They are very young, but also lose some key bigs next year.
As an aside, UVA honored Debbie Ryan at halftime. Very nice ceremony that included video comments by Geno and Dawn. Both were very thankful for Debbie’s support.

UVA was the first WCBB team I rooted for. My intense hatred for the Lady Vols started in 1991 when they defeated the Cavs in the championship game. I was crushed that Sunday afternoon.

I knew there must be some reason that I liked you. Hate the Vols, root for the Cavs. I can’t even dislike you for being a Duke fan, as my son got his PhD there.

He always overranks Chapel Hill on his AP Ballot. This week he had them at #10 and State at #11. With a 15-8 record and losers of 4-5 straight. He also had Uconn at 7, Ohio State at 9, VPI at 17 and Florida State at 22.

Even though Duke had the better season last year, I don't think he ever had them higher than Chapel Hill on any ballot... All season.
Where do you find who voted for who in the AP or other polls?

The way ND started with poor shooting again I thought it was over but they hung around down 2 or 3 until they woke up in the third and got enough of a lead to hang on with a poorly played fourth. Complete games are hard to come by lately but I did enjoy the win.

Kennedy Brown was an able defender at OSU. She has continued to improve her 1-on-1 and team defense. KB has yet to improve on offense from her freshman year. And that hurts Duke whose offense depends heavily on guards scoring. KB is an able passer but cannot be counted on to create her own shot.

Thanks for posting. I usually get something from Northam (whether I agree or not), but I can't quite tell what he's trying to say here. I agree that Duke's defense does have the ability to make good offensive teams look average. Kudo's to Coach Lawson and her charges.

But, that said, UConn doesn't play the kind of defense Duke does....the ND-UConn game was a battle of two teams that like to get out and push, with ND also stepping up on the defensive end, particularly in the second half. UConn didn't challenge that high-post action featuring Hidalgo and Westbeld, which allowed HH to just blow down the paint. By contrast, Duke was challenging that, as NC State did, but ND countered by spreading out the offense in the third quarter with Nat Marshall getting out of the way.

As much as I would love to see Wes Moore be ACC and National Coach of the Year, and NC State has been a surprising team this season...FLJ HAS to be a front-runner for both. Syracuse still has an outside chance of taking the ACC regular season! NOONE would have expected that in year 2.

I definitely think Amoore leaves. She's international so not sure if she gets the nil opportunities. She probably will be a first round draft pick and worst case scenario she goes back home to Australia and balls in the WNBL. I think it would be cool if she came back but I doubt it.

I think most of the others should come back. Madison Hayes is a stud. She keeps getting better and better. Deja could leave. Her and Utsby have had sortve a strange trajectory. I think they made the sweet 16 as sophomores. But have struggled to make it back since and their stats have not improved at all

What about taking advantage of an extra year and a graduate degree? All this talk about NIL comes across short sighted some times. The value of a graduate degree is just as important and maybe even moreso versus NIL.

There's no guarantee she'll make a WNBA roster, considering how things have been trending the last few years. Yes, she can make a decent career in Australia, but eventually the ball stops bouncing and she's going to need a career. Getting that graduate degree helps set her up for the long term.

From your keyboard to God’s ears concerning Hayes. I don’t think most understand how critical she has been to the Packs success this season. While her stat lines are solid enough, her impact goes well beyond counting stats. Would be big big shoes to fill should she decide not to return for whatever reason.

The value of a post graduate degree really depends on what the degree is in. I have no idea what she's studying but if it's a soft discipline it's not really valuable.

Agree with your take on Amoore. I think she's a first-round pick, particularly if other guards (Paige for instance) stay in school. She's helped lead to her team to a Final Four, could do so again and, importantly, her best buddies -- Kitley and King -- are out of eligibility, so there may be no emotional ties at this point.

  • Mir McLean will come back, in part, because her injuries have limited time on the court. Need experience & exposure.
  • Agree with your take on Ustby & Kelly. On one hand, they could come back because I don't think they're definites in the pro's. However, they seem to have tapped out early. Can Banghart make it worth their while with another transfer?
  • Westbeld is an interesting case. She's missed one game in four years and has played a lot of minutes for ND. She's got a pro-ready body and technique. Still, she might want to give it a shot with 'Liv Miles (coming back) and Soni Citron (who she is very close to), not to mention Hurricane Hidalgo and a special big in Kate Koval coming to South Bend. Stay tuned.

Duke is embarrassing Syracuse. 31-15 with about two minutes left in the first half.

And Duke won 58-45. I don't get the ups and downs that go on but they keep happening. Crazy ACC keeps surprising me as does Indiana Iowa and LSU Auburn early in the game. Glad I didn't bet on anyone.
